Hermanos, una vez que han muerto con Cristo a los elementos del mundo, ¿por qué sujetarse, como si aún estuvieran en el mundo, a preceptos como «no toques», «no pruebes», «no acaricies», cosas todas destinadas a perecer con el uso, y conforme a preceptos y doctrinas puramente humanos? Tales cosas tienen una apariencia de sabiduría por su piedad afectada, sus mortificaciones y su rigor con el cuerpo; pero carecen de valor para combatir la insolencia de la carne. Así pues, si han resucitado con Cristo, busquen las cosas de arriba, donde está Cristo sentado a la diestra de Dios. Aspiren a las cosas de arriba, no a las de la tierra. Porque han muerto, y su vida está oculta con Cristo en Dios. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, if with Christ you died to the elemental principles of the world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations, “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” (referring to things which all perish as they are used), according to human precepts and doctrines? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but not honor, in checking the indulgence of the flesh. If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. [RSV]

Cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos le dijo: «Señor, enséñanos a orar, como enseñó Juan a sus discípulos.» Él les dijo: «Cuando oren, digan: Padre, santificado sea tu Nombre, venga tu Reino, danos cada día nuestro pan cotidiano, y perdónanos nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a todo el que nos debe, y no nos dejes caer en tentación.» Les dijo también: «Imagínense que uno de ustedes tiene un amigo y acude a él a medianoche, diciéndole: ‘Amigo, préstame tres panes, porque ha llegado de viaje a mi casa un amigo mío y no tengo qué ofrecerle’, y el otro, desde dentro, le responde: ‘No me molestes. La puerta ya está cerrada, y mis hijos y yo estamos acostados. No puedo levantarme a dártelos.’ Les aseguro que si no se levanta a dárselos por ser su amigo, se levantará para que deje de molestarle, y le dará cuanto necesite. «Yo les digo: Pidan y se les dará; busquen y hallarán; llamen y se les abrirá. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
