Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Hermanos, saben que el hombre no se justifica por las obras de la ley, sino por la fe en Jesús Cristo, también nosotros hemos creído en Cristo Jesús. Tratamos así de conseguir la justificación por la fe en Cristo, y no por las obras de la ley, pues por las obras de la ley nadie será justificado. Ahora bien, si buscando nuestra justificación en Cristo, resulta que también nosotros somos pecadores, ¿está Cristo al servicio del pecado? ¡De ningún modo! Pues si vuelvo a edificar lo que una vez destruí, a mí mismo me declaro transgresor. En efecto, yo por la ley he muerto a la ley, a fin de vivir para Dios. Ahora estoy crucificado con Cristo; yo ya no vivo, pero Cristo vive en mí. Todavía vivo en la carne, pero mi vida está afianzada en la fe del Hijo de Dios, que me amó y se entregó a sí mismo por mí. Brethren, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. En aquel tiempo, Jesús arribó a la región de los gerasenos, que está frente a Galilea. Al saltar a tierra, salió del pueblo a su encuentro un hombre poseído por los demonios, que hacía mucho tiempo que no llevaba ropa, ni moraba en una casa, sino entre los sepulcros. Al ver a Jesús, se echó a sus pies y gritó con fuerte voz: «¿Qué tengo yo contigo, Jesús, hijo de Dios Altísimo? Te suplico que no me atormentes.» Lo decía porque Jesús había mandado al espíritu inmundo que saliera de aquel hombre. Y es que en muchas ocasiones se apoderaba de él; y, aunque le sujetaban con cadenas y grillos para custodiarlo, rompía las ligaduras, y el demonio lo empujaba a lugares inhóspitos. Jesús le preguntó: «¿Cómo te llamas?» Él contestó: «Legión» (porque habían entrado en él muchos demonios). Y le suplicaban que no les mandara irse al abismo. Había allí una gran piara de puercos que pacían en el monte. Ellos le suplicaron que les permitiera entrar en ellos. Jesús se lo permitió. Los demonios salieron de aquel hombre y entraron en los puercos. Entonces la piara se arrojó al lago de lo alto del cantil y se ahogó. Cuando los porqueros vieron lo que había pasado, huyeron y lo contaron en el pueblo y por las aldeas. La gente salió entonces a ver lo que había ocurrido. Cuando llegaron donde Jesús y encontraron al hombre del que habían salido los demonios, sentado, vestido y en su sano juicio, a los pies de Jesús, se llenaron de temor. Los que lo habían visto les contaron cómo había sido salvado el endemoniado. Entonces toda la gente del país de los gerasenos le rogaron que se alejara de ellos, porque estaban poseídos de gran temor. Jesús subió a la barca y regresó. El hombre de quien habían salido los demonios le pidió quedarse con él; pero Jesús le despidió, diciendo: «Vuelve a tu casa y cuenta todo lo que Dios ha hecho contigo.» Y recorrió el pueblo proclamando todo lo que Jesús había hecho con él. At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me.” For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios.
