Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Hermanos, del mismo modo que sobresalen en todo: en fe, en palabra, en ciencia, en todo interés y en la caridad que les hemos comunicado, sobresalgan también en esta generosidad. No es una orden; sólo quiero, mediante el interés por los demás, probar la sinceridad de su caridad. Pues conocen la generosidad de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el cual, siendo rico, por ustedes se hizo pobre a fin de enriquecerlos con su pobreza. Les doy un consejo sobre el particular que les viene bien a ustedes: ya que desde el año pasado han sido los primeros no sólo en hacer la colecta, sino también en tomar la iniciativa, ahora llévenla también a cabo, de forma que a su prontitud en la iniciativa corresponda la realización conforme a sus posibilidades. Pues cuando hay buena voluntad, es bien acogida por lo que se tiene, no por lo que no se tiene. No se trata de que pasen apuros para que otros tengan abundancia, sino de procurar la igualdad. Al presente, la abundancia de ustedes remedia su necesidad, para que la abundancia de ellos pueda remediar también la necesidad de ustedes y reine la igualdad, como dice la Escritura: El que mucho recogió, no tuvo de más; y el que poco, no tuvo de menos. Brethren, as you excel in everything — in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for us — see that you excel in this gracious work also. I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I give my advice: it is best for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to desire, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not. I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality. As it is written, “He who gathered much has nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack.” [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, en cuanto salieron los fariseos, se confabularon con los herodianos contra él para ver cómo eliminarlo. Jesús se retiró con sus discípulos hacia el mar, y le siguió una gran muchedumbre de Galilea. También de Judea, de Jerusalén, de Idumea, del otro lado del Jordán, de los alrededores de Tiro y Sidón, una gran muchedumbre, al oír lo que hacía, acudió a él. Entonces, a causa de la multitud, dijo a sus discípulos que le prepararan una pequeña barca, para que no le aplastaran. Pues curó a muchos, de suerte que cuantos padecían dolencias se le echaban encima para tocarlo. Y los espíritus inmundos, al verle, se arrojaban a sus pies y gritaban: «Tú eres el Hijo de Dios.» Pero él les mandaba enérgicamente que no le descubrieran. [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, the Pharisees held counsel with the Herodians against Jesus, how to destroy him. Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed; also from Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from about Tyre and Sidon a great multitude, hearing all that he did, came to him. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they should crush him; for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him. And whenever the unclean spirits beheld him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” And he strictly ordered them not to make him known. [RSV]

Ὕμνος εἰς τὴν Θεοτόκον.
Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
