Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Hermanos, la tristeza según Dios produce un irreversible arrepentimiento para la salvación; mas la tristeza del mundo produce la muerte. Miren qué ha producido entre ustedes esa tristeza según Dios: ¡qué interés, qué disculpas, qué enojo, qué temor, qué nostalgia, qué afán, qué escarmiento! En todo han mostrado que eran inocentes en este asunto. Así pues, si les escribí no fue a causa del que injurió, ni del que recibió la injuria. Fue para que se pusiera de manifiesto entre ustedes ante Dios su interés por nosotros. Eso es lo que nos ha consolado. Y mucho más que por este consuelo, nos hemos alegrado por el gozo de Tito, cuyo espíritu fue tranquilizado por todos ustedes. Y si en algo me he gloriado de ustedes ante él, no he quedado avergonzado. Antes bien, así como les hemos dicho siempre la verdad, así también el motivo de nuestra gloria ante Tito ha resultado verdadero. Brethren, godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death. For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves guiltless in the matter. So although I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong, nor on account of the one who suffered the wrong, but in order that your zeal for us might be revealed to you in the sight of God. Therefore we are comforted. And besides our own comfort we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his mind has been set at rest by you all. For if I have expressed to him some pride in you, I was not put to shame; but just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting before Titus has proved true.
