Hermanos, debemos purificarnos de toda mancha, tanto en el cuerpo como en el espíritu, consumando nuestra santificación en el temor de Dios. Hágannos sitio en sus corazones. A nadie hemos ofendido; a nadie hemos arruinado; a nadie hemos explotado. No les digo esto con ánimo de condenarlos. Pues acabo de decirles que en vida y muerte están unidos en mi corazón. Tengo franqueza para hablarles; estoy muy orgulloso de ustedes. Me siento muy animado y rebosante de alegría, a pesar de todas nuestras tribulaciones. Efectivamente, tras llegar a Macedonia, no tuvimos sosiego alguno, sino toda suerte de tribulaciones: por fuera, luchas; por dentro, temores. Pero el Dios que consuela a los abatidos nos consoló con la llegada de Tito. Pero no fue sólo su llegada, sino también el consuelo que le habían proporcionado, al decirle que me echan de menos y transmitirle su pesar y su preocupación por mí. Estas noticias me llenaron de alegría. Porque no me pesa haberlos entristecido con mi carta. Y si entonces me pesó —sé que aquella carta los entristeció, aunque sólo fuera por un momento—, ahora me alegro. No por haberlos entristecido, sino porque aquella tristeza desembocó en arrepentimiento. Pues se entristecieron de cara a Dios, de manera que no han sufrido perjuicio alguno de nuestra parte. En efecto, la tristeza de cara a Dios produce un irreversible arrepentimiento para la salvación; en cambio, la tristeza meramente mundana desemboca en la muerte. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God. Make room for us; we have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one. I do not say this to condemn you, for I said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. I have great confidence in you; I have great pride in you; I am filled with comfort. With all our affliction, I am overjoyed. For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest but we were afflicted at every turn — fighting without and fear within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more. For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it (though I did regret it), for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting; for you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, Jesús se fue con Santiago y Juan a casa de Simón y Andrés. La suegra de Simón estaba en cama con fiebre; y le hablan de ella. Se acercó y, tomándola de la mano, la levantó. La fiebre la dejó y ella se puso a servirles. Al atardecer, a la puesta del sol, le trajeron todos los enfermos y endemoniados; la ciudad entera estaba agolpada a la puerta. Jesús curó a muchos que se encontraban mal de diversas enfermedades y expulsó muchos demonios. Y no dejaba hablar a los demonios, pues lo conocían. De madrugada, cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, se levantó, salió y fue a un lugar solitario y allí se puso a hacer oración. [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her. And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them. That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered together about the door. And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
