Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. En aquellos días, Pablo y Bernabé se quedaron en Antioquía enseñando y anunciando, en compañía de otros muchos, la Buena Nueva, la palabra del Señor. Al cabo de algunos días, dijo Pablo a Bernabé: «Volvamos ya a ver cómo les va a los hermanos en todas aquellas ciudades en que anunciamos la palabra del Señor.» Bernabé quería llevar también con ellos a Juan, llamado Marcos. Pablo, en cambio, pensaba que no debían llevar consigo al que se había separado de ellos en Panfilia y no les había acompañado en su tarea. Se produjo entonces una tirantez tal que acabaron por separarse el uno del otro: Bernabé tomó consigo a Marcos y se embarcó rumbo a Chipre. Por su parte, Pablo eligió como compañero a Silas y partió, encomendado por los hermanos a la gracia de Dios. Pablo recorrió Siria y Cilicia consolidando las iglesias. [BJ-SAOGM]
In those days, Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Come, let us return and visit the brethren in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are.” And Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. And there arose a sharp contention, so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, cuando iba subiendo Jesús a Jerusalén, tomó aparte a los Doce y les dijo por el camino: «Ya ven que subimos a Jerusalén, donde el Hijo del hombre será entregado a los sumos sacerdotes y escribas. Lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los paganos, para burlarse de él, azotarle y crucificarlo. Y al tercer día resucitará.» Entonces se le acercó la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo con sus hijos, y se postró como para pedirle algo. Él le preguntó: «¿Qué quieres?» Respondió ella: «Manda que estos dos hijos míos se sienten en tu Reino, uno a tu derecha y otro a tu izquierda.» Replicó Jesús: «No saben lo que piden. ¿Pueden beber la copa que yo voy a beber?» Respondieron: «Sí, podemos.» Entonces les dijo: «Desde luego que beberán mi copa. Pero eso de sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no está en mis manos concederlo. Será para quienes mi Padre lo tenga dispuesto.» Al oír esto los otros diez, se indignaron con los dos hermanos. Mas Jesús los llamó y dijo: «Saben que los jefes de las naciones las dominan como señores absolutos, y los grandes las oprimen con su poder. No ha de ser así entre ustedes, pues el que quiera llegar a ser grande entre ustedes, que sea su servidor, y el que quiera ser el primero entre ustedes, que sea su esclavo; de la misma manera que el Hijo del hombre, que no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir y a dar su vida como rescate por muchos.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to him, “We are able.” He said to them, “You will drink my cup, and you will be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” [RSV]
