Hermanos, la caridad es paciente y bondadosa; la caridad no es envidiosa, no es jactanciosa ni orgullosa; es decorosa; no busca su interés; no se irrita; no toma en cuenta el mal; no se alegra de la injusticia; se alegra con la verdad. Todo lo excusa. Todo lo cree. Todo lo espera. Todo lo soporta. La caridad no acabará nunca; en cambio, desaparecerán las profecías, cesarán las lenguas y desaparecerá la ciencia. En realidad, nuestra ciencia es parcial, y parcial nuestra profecía; pero, cuando venga lo perfecto, desaparecerá lo parcial. Cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, razonaba como niño; pero, al hacerme hombre, dejé todas las cosas de niño. Ahora vemos como en un espejo, de forma borrosa; pero entonces veremos cara a cara. Ahora conozco de un modo parcial, pero entonces conoceré tal como soy conocido. Ahora subsisten la fe, la esperanza y la caridad, estas tres realidades. Pero la mayor de todas ellas es la caridad. Busquen la caridad, pero aspiren también a los dones espirituales, especialmente a la profecía. El que habla en lenguas no habla a la gente, sino a Dios. Y es que nadie le entiende, pues dice en espíritu cosas misteriosas. Por el contrario, el que tiene don de profecía habla a los demás para su crecimiento en la fe; les exhorta y los conforta. El que habla en lenguas se consolida a sí mismo; pero el profeta contribuye al crecimiento de toda la asamblea. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Make love your aim, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one hears, but he utters mysteries in the spirit. On the other hand, he who prophesies speaks to men for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless some one interprets, so that the church may be edified. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor esta parábola: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un propietario que salió a primera hora de la mañana a contratar obreros para su viña. Tras ajustarse con los obreros en un denario al día, los envió a su viña. Salió luego hacia la hora tercia y, al ver a otros que estaban en la plaza parados, les dijo: ‘Vayan también ustedes a mi viña, y les daré lo que sea justo.’ Ellos fueron. Volvió a salir a la hora sexta y a la nona, e hizo lo mismo. Todavía salió a eso de la hora undécima y, al encontrar a otros que estaban allí, les dijo: ‘¿Por qué están aquí todo el día parados?’ Le respondieron: ‘Es que nadie nos ha contratado.’ Dijo él: ‘Vayan también ustedes a la viña.’ Al atardecer, dijo el dueño de la viña a su administrador: ‘Llama a los obreros y págales el jornal, empezando por los últimos hasta los primeros.’ Vinieron, pues, los de la hora undécima y cobraron un denario cada uno. Al venir los primeros pensaron que cobrarían más; sin embargo, también ellos cobraron un denario cada uno. Tras cobrarlo, se quejaron al propietario; le dijeron: ‘Estos últimos no han trabajado más que una hora, y resulta que les pagas como a nosotros, que hemos aguantado el peso del día y el calor.’ Pero él contestó a uno de ellos: ‘Amigo, no te hago ninguna injusticia. ¿No te ajustaste conmigo en un denario? Pues toma lo tuyo y vete. Por mi parte, quiero dar a este último lo mismo que a ti. ¿Es que no puedo hacer con lo mío lo que quiero? ¿O va a ser tu ojo malo porque yo soy bueno?’. Así, los últimos serán primeros, y los primeros, últimos. Porque muchos son llamados, mas pocos escogidos.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said this parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius. And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder, saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you, and go; I choose to give to this last as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen.” [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
