Hermanos, no procede el varón de la mujer, sino la mujer del varón. Ni fue creado el varón por razón de la mujer, sino la mujer por razón del varón. He ahí por qué debe llevar la mujer sobre la cabeza una señal de sujeción por razón de los ángeles. Por lo demás, ni la mujer sin el varón, ni el varón sin la mujer, en el Señor. Porque si la mujer procede del varón, el varón, a su vez, nace mediante la mujer, y todo proviene de Dios. Juzguen por ustedes mismos. ¿Está bien que la mujer ore a Dios con la cabeza descubierta? ¿No les enseña la misma naturaleza que es una afrenta para el varón la cabellera, mientras es una gloria para la mujer la cabellera? En efecto, la cabellera le ha sido dada a modo de velo. De todos modos, si alguien quiere discutir, no es ésa nuestra costumbre ni la de las Iglesias de Dios. Al dar estas disposiciones, no los alabo, porque sus reuniones son más para mal que para bien. Pues, ante todo, oigo que, al reunirse en la asamblea, hay entre ustedes divisiones, y lo creo en parte. Desde luego, tiene que haber entre ustedes disensiones, para que se ponga de manifiesto quiénes son los auténticos entre ustedes. Cuando se reúnen, pues, en común, eso no es comer la cena del Señor; porque cada uno come primero su propia cena, y mientras uno pasa hambre, otro se embriaga. ¿No tienen casas para comer y beber? ¿O es que desprecian a la Iglesia de Dios y avergüenzan a los que no tienen? ¿Qué voy a decirles? ¿Alabarlos? ¡En eso no los alabo! Porque yo recibí del Señor lo que les transmití. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head because of the angels. (Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not dependent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man was now born of woman. And all things are from God.) Judge for yourselves; is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not nature itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is degrading to him, but if a woman has long hair, it is to her pride? For her hair is given to her for a covering. If anyone is disposed to be contentious, we recognize no other practice, nor do the churches of God. But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. For, in the first place, when you assemble as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it, for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized. When you meet together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal, and one is hungry and another is drunk. What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not. For I have received from the Lord what I also delivered to you. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, los discípulos de Jesús le preguntaron: «¿Por qué, pues, dicen los escribas que Elías debe venir primero?» Respondió él: «Ciertamente, Elías ha de venir a restaurarlo todo. Les digo, sin embargo: Elías vino ya, pero no le reconocieron sino que hicieron con él cuanto quisieron. Así también el Hijo del hombre tendrá que padecer de parte de ellos.» Entonces los discípulos entendieron que se refería a Juan el Bautista. Cuando llegaron adonde la gente, se acercó a él un hombre que, arrodillándose ante él, le dijo: «Señor, ten piedad de mi hijo, porque es lunático y sufre mucho; pues muchas veces cae en el fuego y muchas en el agua. Se lo he presentado a tus discípulos, pero ellos no han podido curarlo.» Jesús respondió: «¡Oh generación incrédula y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que soportarlos? ¡Tráiganmelo acá!» Jesús le increpó y el demonio salió de él; y quedó sano el niño desde aquel momento. At that time, the disciples asked Jesus, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” He replied, “Elijah does come and he is to restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” And Jesus answered, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly. [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
