Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Christ, our God, You were crucified and conquered death by death. Being one of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Save us.

Becoming a partner with the Apostles in way of life and successor to their thrones, O God-inspired Saint, in the active life you found an entrance to contemplation. Hence you rightly expounded the word of truth, and you shed your blood in struggling for the faith, O Hieromartyr Phocas. Intercede with Christ our God, beseeching Him to save our souls. [SD]

Hermanos, si alguien les dice: «Esto ha sido ofrecido en sacrificio», no lo coman, a causa del que lo advirtió y por motivos de conciencia. No me refiero a tu conciencia, sino a la del otro; pues ¿cómo va a ser juzgada la libertad de mi conciencia por una conciencia ajena? Si yo tomo algo dando gracias, ¿por qué voy a ser reprendido por aquello mismo que tomo dando gracias? Por tanto, ya coman, ya beban o hagan cualquier otra cosa, háganlo todo para gloria de Dios. No den motivo de escándalo ni a judíos, ni a griegos, ni a la Iglesia de Dios; lo mismo que yo, que me esfuerzo por agradar a todos en todo, sin procurar mi propio interés, sino el de todos, para que se salven. Sean mis imitadores, como lo soy de Cristo. Los alabo porque en todas las cosas se acuerdan de mí y conservan las tradiciones tal como se las he transmitido. Sin embargo, quiero que sepan que la cabeza de todo hombre es Cristo; y la cabeza de la mujer es el hombre; y la cabeza de Cristo es Dios. Todo hombre que ora o profetiza con la cabeza cubierta, afrenta a su cabeza. Y toda mujer que ora o profetiza con la cabeza descubierta, afrenta a su cabeza; es como si estuviera rapada. Por tanto, si una mujer no se cubre la cabeza, que se corte el pelo. Y si es afrentoso para una mujer cortarse el pelo o raparse, ¡que se cubra! El varón no debe cubrirse la cabeza, pues es imagen de la gloria de Dios; pero la mujer es gloria del varón. En efecto, no procede el varón de la mujer, sino la mujer del varón. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, if some one says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then out of consideration for the man who informed you, and for conscience’s sake — l mean his conscience, not yours — do not eat it. For why should my liberty be determined by another man’s scruples? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which, I give thanks? So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please all men in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but any woman who prays of prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors her head — it is the same as if her head were shaven. For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair, but if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her wear a veil. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor a sus discípulos: «Si alguno quiere venir detrás de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz y sígame. Porque quien quiera salvar su vida, la perderá, pero quien pierda su vida por mí, la encontrará. Pues ¿de qué le servirá al hombre ganar el mundo entero, si arruina su vida? O ¿qué puede dar el hombre a cambio de su vida? Porque el Hijo del hombre ha de venir en la gloria de su Padre, con sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno según su conducta. Yo les aseguro: entre los aquí presentes hay algunos que no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean al Hijo del hombre venir en su Reino.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father and then he will repay every man for what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
