Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Hermanos, tomen como modelo de sufrimiento y de paciencia a los profetas, que hablaron en nombre del Señor. Ya saben que solemos proclamar felices a los que sufrieron con paciencia. Han oído hablar de la paciencia de Job, y ya saben el final que el Señor le dio; porque el Señor es compasivo y misericordioso. Ante todo, hermanos, no juren ni por el cielo ni por la tierra, ni por ninguna otra cosa. Que su sí sea sí, y su no, no. Así no incurrirán en juicio. ¿Sufre alguno entre ustedes? Que ore. ¿Está alguno alegre? Que cante salmos. ¿Está enfermo alguno entre ustedes? Que llame a los presbíteros de la Iglesia, para que oren por él y le unjan con óleo en el nombre del Señor. La oración hecha con fe salvará al enfermo, y el Señor hará que se levante; y, si hubiera cometido pecados, le serán perdonados. Confiésense, pues, mutuamente sus pecados y oren los unos por los otros, para que sean curados. La oración ferviente del justo tiene mucho poder. Elías era un hombre de igual condición que nosotros; oró insistentemente para que no lloviese, y no llovió sobre la tierra durante tres años y seis meses. Después oró de nuevo y el cielo dio lluvia y la tierra produjo su fruto. Hermanos míos, si alguno de ustedes se desvía de la verdad y otro le convierte, sepa que el que convierte a un pecador de su camino desviado se salvará de la muerte y cubrirá multitud de pecados. Brethren, take as an example of suffering and patience the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we call those happy who were steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath, but let your yes be yes and your no be no, that you may not fall into hypocrisy. Is any one among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. Elijah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit. My brethren, if any one among you wanders from the truth and some one brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. En aquel tiempo, todos hacían comentarios sobre él y se extrañaban de la elocuencia y seguridad con que hablaba. La gente se preguntaba: «¿Pero no es éste el hijo de José?» Él les respondió: «Seguramente me van a aplicar el refrán que dice: ‘Médico, cúrate a ti mismo’. Todo lo que hemos oído que ha sucedido en Cafarnaún, hazlo también aquí en tu patria.» Y añadió: «Les aseguro que ningún profeta es bien recibido en su patria. Les digo de verdad que en vida de Elías, cuando se cerró el cielo por tres años y seis meses y hubo gran hambre en todo el país, había muchas viudas en Israel; pero a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una mujer viuda de Sarepta de Sidón. At that time, the crowds wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of Jesus'' mouth; and they said, “Is not this Joseph’s son?” And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here also in your own country.’” And he said, “Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country. But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land; and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha; and none of them was cleansed but only Naaman the Syrian.” When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. And they rose up and put him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong. But passing through the midst of them he went away. [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
