Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Christ, our God, You were crucified and conquered death by death. Being one of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Save us.

La memoria del justo es digna de la alabanza, pero te es suficiente el testimonio del Señor, oh Precursor. Porque, en verdad, te manifestaste más honorable que los profetas, pues has sido merecedor de bautizar en las corrientes del Jordán a Aquél que había sido anunciado. Por tanto, después de haber luchado gozosamente por la Verdad, anunciaste a aquellos que moraban en el Hades, a Dios que se manifiesta en la carne y borra el pecado del mundo, concediéndonos la gran misericordia. The memory of the just is observed with hymns of praise; for you suffices the testimony of the Lord, O Forerunner. You have proved to be truly more ven’rable than the Prophets, since you were granted to baptize in the river the One whom they proclaimed. Therefore, when for the truth you had contested, rejoicing, to those in Hades you preached the Gospel, that God was manifested in the flesh, and takes away the sin of the world, and grants to us the great mercy. Hermanos, dice la Escritura: ‘Todo el que crea en él no será confundido’. O sea, que no hay distinción entre judío y griego, pues uno mismo es el Señor de todos, rico para todos los que lo invocan. Pues todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor se salvará. Pero, ¿cómo van a invocar a aquel en quien no han creído? ¿Cómo creerán en aquel de quien no han oído hablar? ¿Cómo van a oír sin que se les predique? ¿Y cómo van a predicar si no son enviados? Como dice la Escritura: ‘¡Qué hermosos son los pies de los que anuncian el bien!’ Pero no todos obedecieron a la Buena Nueva. Porque Isaías dice: ‘¡Señor!, ¿quién ha creído a nuestra predicación?’ Por tanto, la fe viene de la predicación, y la predicación, por la palabra de Cristo. Y pregunto yo: ¿Será que no han oído? ¡Claro que han oído! Por toda la tierra se ha difundido su voz, y hasta los confines de la tierra sus palabras. Pero pregunto: ¿Es que Israel no comprendió? Moisés fue el primero en decir: ‘Los volveré celosos de una que no es nación; contra una nación estúpida los enfureceré’. Isaías, a su vez, se atreve a decir: ‘Fui hallado por quienes no me buscaban; me manifesté a quienes no preguntaban por mí’. Mas a Israel dice: ‘Todo el día extendí mis manos hacia un pueblo incrédulo y rebelde’. Y pregunto yo: ¿Es que ha rechazado Dios a su pueblo? ¡De ningún modo! ¡Que también yo soy israelita, del linaje de Abrahán, de la tribu de Benjamín! Dios no ha rechazado a su pueblo, a quien fue el primero en reconocer como tal. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, the scripture says, “No one who believes in God will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. For, “every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ. But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have; for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” Again I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry.” Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor: «¿Con quién podré comparar a esta generación? Se parece a los chiquillos que, sentados en las plazas, se gritan unos a otros: ‘Les hemos tocado la flauta, y no han bailado; les hemos entonado endechas, y no se han lamentado.’ Porque resulta que vino Juan, que ni come ni bebe, y dicen que está endemoniado. Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: ‘Ahí tienen un comilón y un borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores.’ Pero la Sabiduría se ha acreditado por sus obras.» Entonces se puso a maldecir a los pueblos en los que se habían realizado la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no se habían convertido. The Lord said, “To what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, ‘We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her children.” Then he began to upbraid the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
