Mientras se lee el salmo introductorio (103/104), el sacerdote, con la cabeza descubierta, se coloca frente a la Santa Mesa o frente al icono de Cristo en la solea, y recita en silencio las oraciones del encendido de las lámparas.

Bendice, alma mía, al Señor: ¡Dios mío, qué grande eres! Te vistes de belleza y majestad, la luz te envuelve como un manto. Extiendes los cielos como una tienda, construyes tu morada sobre las aguas; las nubes te sirven de carroza, avanzas en las olas del viento; los vientos te sirven de mensajeros; el fuego llameante, de ministro. Asentaste la tierra sobre sus cimientos, y no vacilará jamás; la cubriste con el manto del océano, y las aguas se posaron sobre las montañas; pero a tu bramido huyeron, al fragor de tu trueno se precipitaron, mientras subían los montes y bajaban los valles: cada cual al puesto asignado. Trazaste una frontera que no traspasarán, y no volverán a cubrir la tierra. De los manantiales sacas los ríos, para que fluyan entre los montes; en ellos beben las fieras de los campos, el asno salvaje apaga su sed; junto a ellos habitan las aves del cielo, y entre las frondas se oye su canto. Desde tu morada riegas los montes, y la tierra se sacia de tu acción fecunda; haces brotar hierba para los ganados, y forraje para los que sirven al hombre. Él saca pan de los campos, y vino que le alegra el corazón; y aceite que da brillo a su rostro, y alimento que le da fuerzas. Se llenan de savia los árboles del Señor, los cedros del Líbano que El plantó: allí anidan los pájaros, en su cima pone casa la cigüeña. Los riscos son para las cabras, las peñas son madriguera de erizos. Hiciste la luna con sus fases, el sol conoce su ocaso. Pones las tinieblas y viene la noche, y rondan las fieras de la selva; los cachorros rugen por la presa, reclamando a Dios su comida. Cuando brilla el sol, se retiran, y se tumban en sus guaridas; el hombre sale a sus faenas, a su labranza hasta el atardecer. Cuántas son tus obras, Señor, y todas las hiciste con sabiduría; la tierra está llena de tus criaturas. Ahí está el mar: ancho y dilatado, en él bullen, sin número, animales pequeños y grandes; lo surcan las naves, y el leviatán que modelaste para que retoce. Todos ellos aguardan a que les eches comida a su tiempo: se la echas, y la atrapan; abres tu mano, y se sacian de bienes; escondes tu rostro, y se espantan; les retiras el aliento, y expiran y vuelven a ser polvo; envías tu aliento, y los creas, y repueblas la faz de la tierra. Gloria a Dios para siempre, goce el Señor con sus obras, cuando Él mira la tierra, ella tiembla; cuando toca los montes, humean. Cantaré al Señor, tocaré para mi Dios mientras exista: que le sea agradable mi poema, y yo me alegraré con el Señor. Que se acaben los pecadores en la tierra, que los malvados no existan más. ¡Bendice, alma mía, al Señor!
Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. You are He who sends springs into the valley; the waters shall pass between the mountains; they shall give drink to all the wild animals of the field; the wild asses shall quench their thirst; the birds of heaven shall dwell beside them; they shall sing from the midst of the rocks. You are He who waters the mountains from His higher places; the earth shall be satisfied with the fruit of Your works. You are He who causes grass to grow for the cattle, and the green plant for the service of man, to bring forth bread from the earth; and wine gladdens the heart of man, to brighten his face with oil; and bread strengthens man’s heart. The trees of the plain shall be full of fruit, the cedars of Lebanon, which You planted; there the sparrows shall make their nests; the house of the heron takes the lead among them. The high mountains are for the deer; the cliff is a refuge for the rabbits. He made the moon for seasons; the sun knows its setting. You established darkness, and it was night, wherein all the wild animals of the forest will prowl about; the young lions roar and snatch their prey, and seek their food from God. The sun arises, and they are gathered together; and they shall be put to bed in their dens. Man shall go out to his work and to his labor until evening. O Lord, Your works shall be magnified greatly; You made all things in wisdom; the earth was filled with Your creation. There is this great and spacious sea: the creeping things are there without number; the living things are there, both small and great; there the ships pass through; there is this dragon You formed to play therein. All things wait upon You, that You may give them food in due season. When You give it to them, they shall gather it; when You open Your hand, all things shall be filled with Your goodness. But when You turn Your face away, they shall be troubled; when You take away their breath, they shall die and return again to their dust. You shall send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Let the glory of the Lord be forever; the Lord shall be glad in His works; He looks upon the earth and makes it tremble; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing to my God as long as I exist; may my words be pleasing to Him, and I shall be glad in the Lord. May sinners cease from the earth, and the lawless, so as to be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Τοῦ ἱλαρῦναι πρόσωπον ἐν ἐλαίῳ, καὶ ἄρτος καρδίαν ἀνθρώπου στηρίζει. Χορτασθήσονται τὰ ξύλα τοῦ πεδίου, αἱ κέδροι τοῦ Λιβάνου, ἃς ἐφύτευσας. Ἐκεῖ στρουθία ἐννοσσεύσουσι, τοῦ ἐρωδιοῦ ἡ κατοικία ἡγεῖται αὐτῶν. Ὄρη τὰ ὑψηλὰ ταῖς ἐλάφοις, πέτρα καταφυγὴ τοῖς λαγωοῖς. Ἐποίησε σελήνην εἰς καιρούς, ὁ ἥλιος ἔγνω τὴν δύσιν αὐτοῦ. Ἔθου σκότος, καὶ ἐγένετο νύξ, ἐν αὐτῇ διελεύσονται πάντα τὰ θηρία τοῦ δρυμοῦ. Σκύμνοι ὠρυόμενοι τοῦ ἁρπάσαι, καὶ ζητῆσαι παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ βρῶσιν αὐτοῖς. Ἀνέτειλεν ὁ ἥλιος, καὶ συνήχθησαν, καὶ εἰς τὰς μάνδρας αὐτῶν κοιτασθήσονται. Ἐξελεύσεται ἄνθρωπος ἐπὶ τὸ ἔργον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν ἐργασίαν αὐτοῦ ἕως ἑσπέρας. Ὡς ἐμεγαλύνθη τὰ ἔργα σου, Κύριε, πάντα ἐν σοφίᾳ ἐποίησας, ἐπληρώθη ἡ γῆ τῆς κτίσεώς σου. Αὕτη ἡ θάλασσα ἡ μεγάλη καὶ εὐρύχωρος, ἐκεῖ ἑρπετὰ ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός, ζῷα μικρὰ μετὰ μεγάλων. Ἐκεῖ πλοῖα διαπορεύονται, δράκων οὗτος, ὃν ἔπλασας ἐμπαίζειν αὐτῇ. Πάντα πρὸς σὲ προσδοκῶσι, δοῦναι τὴν τροφὴν αὐτῶν εἰς εὔκαιρον, δόντος σου αὐτοῖς συλλέξουσιν. Ἀνοίξαντός σου τὴν χεῖρα, τὰ σύμπαντα πλησθήσονται χρηστότητος, ἀποστρέψαντος δέ σου τὸ πρόσωπον, ταραχθήσονται. Ἀντανελεῖς τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκλείψουσι, καὶ εἰς τὸν χοῦν αὐτῶν ἐπιστρέψουσιν. Ἐξαποστελεῖς τὸ πνεῦμα σου, καὶ κτισθήσονται, καὶ ἀνακαινιεῖς τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς. Ἤτω ἡ δόξα Κυρίου εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας, εὐφρανθήσεται Κύριος ἐπὶ τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ. Ὁ ἐπιβλέπων ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ ποιῶν αὐτὴν τρέμειν, ὁ ἁπτόμενος τῶν ὀρέων, καὶ καπνίζονται. ᾌσω τῷ Κυρίῳ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ μου, ψαλῶ τῷ Θεῷ μου ἕως ὑπάρχω. Ἡδυνθείη αὐτῷ ἡ διαλογή μου, ἐγὼ δὲ εὐφρανθήσομαι ἐπὶ τῷ Κυρίῳ. Ἐκλείποιεν ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἄνομοι, ὥστε μὴ ὑπάρχειν αὐτούς. Εὐλόγει, ἡ ψυχή μου, τὸν Κύριον.

Come, all people, let us worship the one God in three hypostases: the Son in the Father and the Holy Spirit. El Señor respondió a Moisés: «Reúneme setenta ancianos de Israel, de los que te consta que son ancianos y escribas del pueblo. Llévalos a la Tienda del Encuentro y que estén allí contigo. Yo bajaré a hablar contigo; tomaré parte del espíritu que hay en ti y lo pondré en ellos, para que lleven contigo la carga del pueblo y no la tengas que llevar tú solo. Salió Moisés y transmitió al pueblo las palabras del Señor. Luego reunió a setenta ancianos del pueblo y los puso alrededor de la Tienda. Bajó el Señor en la Nube y le habló. Luego tomó algo del espíritu que había en él y se lo dio a los setenta ancianos. Y en cuanto reposó sobre ellos el espíritu, se pusieron a profetizar, pero ya no volvieron a hacerlo más. Habían quedado en el campamento dos hombres, uno llamado Eldad y el otro Medad. Reposó también sobre ellos el espíritu, ya que, si bien no habían salido a la Tienda, eran de los designados. Y profetizaban en el campamento. Un muchacho corrió a anunciar a Moisés: «Eldad y Medad están profetizando en el campamento.» Josué, hijo de Nun, que estaba al servicio de Moisés desde su mocedad, tomó la palabra y dijo: «Mi señor Moisés, prohíbeselo.» Le respondió Moisés: «¿Es que estás tú celoso por mí? ¡Ojalá que todo el pueblo del Señor profetizara porque el Señor les daba su espíritu!» [BJ-SAOGM]
So the Lord said to Moses, “Gather to Me seventy men from the elders of Israel, whom you yourself know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of testimony, so they may stand there with you. Then I will descend and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit upon you and put Him upon them; and they shall help you bear the wrath of the people, that you yourself may not bear them alone.” So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord; and he gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people and placed them around the tabernacle. Then the Lord descended in the cloud and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit upon him, and put Him upon the seventy men of the elders; and when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, although they never did so again. But two men remained in the camp: the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other, Medad, and the Spirit rested upon them. Now they were among those registered, but had not come to the tabernacle; yet they prophesied in the camp. So a young man ran and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” Then Joshua the son of Nun, who was near Moses, one of his choice men, answered and said, “Lord Moses, forbid them.” Then Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people might be prophets, when the Lord would put His Spirit upon them.” [SAAS]

Porque él les envía la lluvia de otoño en su medida, y hace caer para ustedes los aguaceros de otoño y primavera, como antaño. Las eras se llenarán de trigo, los lagares rebosarán de mosto y aceite. Yo los compensaré de los años en que los devoraron la langosta y el pulgón, el saltamontes y la oruga, el gran ejército, que envié contra ustedes. Comerán en abundancia hasta hartarse, y alabarán el nombre del Señor su Dios, que hizo maravillas con ustedes. (¡Mi pueblo no volverá a ser avergonzado!) Y sabrán ustedes que yo estoy en medio de Israel; ¡que yo soy el Señor, su Dios, y no hay otro! ¡Y mi pueblo no volverá a ser avergonzado! Después de esto yo derramaré mi espíritu sobre todo mortal y profetizarán sus hijos y sus hijas, sus ancianos tendrán sueños, sus jóvenes verán visiones. Thus says the Lord: “You children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in the Lord your God, for He gives food that is right for you, and He will shower you as before with the early and the late rain. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the presses of wine and olive oil will overflow. And I will restore to you the years the grasshopper and the locust have eaten, and for the blight, and the caterpillar, even for My great army, which I sent against you. You will eat abundantly and be satisfied and will praise the name of the Lord your God for what He has so wondrously done unto you. And My people will not be put to shame forever. Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel; that I am the Lord your God, and there is no other but Me. And at no time will My people be put to shame forever. After this it shall come to pass that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. And in those days I shall pour out My Spirit on My servants and on My handmaids. And I shall give wonders in the heavens and upon the earth, blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes to pass. And it shall be that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” [SAAS]

Las lenguas fueron confundidas entonces por la soberbia de los constructores de la torre, las lenguas se llenan ahora de sabiduría por la gloria del conocimiento de Dios. Entonces condenó el Señor por su ofensa a los impíos; hoy iluminó Cristo a los pescadores con el Espíritu. Antiguamente se produjo la disonancia como castigo; ahora se renueva la armonía para la salvación de nuestras almas. [AM]
Tongues were confused once because people dared to build the Tower. Tongues now obtain skill, for the glory of divine knowledge. There, God condemned the impious for their transgression; here, by the Spirit, Christ illumined the fishermen. Then, discord was contrived as penalization; now a new concord has arrived, for the salvation of our souls. [SD]
