Por eso, no se avergüenza de llamarlos hermanos, cuando dice: Anunciaré tu nombre a mis hermanos; en medio de la asamblea te alabaré. Y también: En él pondré yo mi confianza. Y nuevamente: Henos aquí, a mí y a los hijos que Dios me ha dado. Por tanto, del mismo modo que los hijos comparten la sangre y la carne, también él las compartió, para reducir a la impotencia mediante su muerte al que tenía el dominio sobre la muerte, es decir, al diablo, y liberar a los que, por temor a la muerte, estaban de por vida sometidos a esclavitud. Porque, ciertamente, no es a los ángeles a quienes tiende una mano, sino a la descendencia de Abrahán. Por eso tuvo que asemejarse en todo a sus hermanos, para ser un sumo sacerdote misericordioso y fiel en lo que toca a Dios, y expiar los pecados del pueblo. Brethren, he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. Entre tanto, pensaba: «El Señor ha hecho esto por mí cuando ha tenido a bien quitar mi oprobio entre la gente.» Al sexto mes envió Dios el ángel Gabriel a un pueblo de Galilea, llamado Nazaret, a una virgen desposada con un hombre llamado José, de la casa de David. La virgen se llamaba María. Cuando entró, le dijo: «Alégrate, llena de gracia, el Señor está contigo.» Ella se conturbó por estas palabras y se preguntaba qué significaría aquel saludo. El ángel le dijo: «No temas, María, porque has hallado gracia delante de Dios; vas a concebir en tu seno y a dar a luz un hijo, a quien pondrás por nombre Jesús. Oh Señor nuestro Dios, tú sostienes al universo con tu poder y gobiernas al mundo con tu voluntad divina y todopoderosa. Tú creaste “de un solo principio, todo el linaje humano, para que habitara sobre toda la tierra, y fijó los tiempos determinados y los límites del lugar donde habían de habitar”. Has tratado con gran bondad a nuestra piadosa nación griega, otorgándole el conocimiento de tu verdad, guiándola hacia la luz de la fe ortodoxa, y mediante ella levantado grandes padres y maestros para la Iglesia. Durante siglos la mantuviste libre, por tu divina gracia; y cuando fue subyugada, la preservaste, y luego la liberaste y la resucitaste a una vida de libertad una vez más. Oh más benevolente Maestro, hoy que celebramos el aniversario de la revolución griega, declarada por nuestros padres en tu santo nombre el día solemne de la Anunciación mientras luchaban por la fe y la patria, acepta nuestra gratitud y glorificación, y escúchanos que te imploramos con fe. Suplicamos por las almas de nuestros padres y hermanos que lucharon y se sacrificaron por nuestra fe y nuestra patria; ya sea que fueran asesinados en batalla, colgados o ejecutados, o murieran en cautiverio y adversidad, concédeles el descanso junto a tus santos. O Lord our God, You hold the universe together by Your power, and You govern the world by Your divine, almighty will. You “made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their habitation.” You have been especially good to our pious Greek nation, granting it the knowledge of Your truth, leading it to the light of the Orthodox faith, and raising from it great Fathers and Teachers for the Church. For centuries You kept it free, by Your divine grace; and when it was subjugated, You preserved it, and then delivered it and resurrected it to a life of liberty once again. O all-benevolent Master, today as we celebrate the annual remembrance of the Greek Revolution, that our fathers declared in Your holy name on this festive day of the Annunciation, as they proceeded to fight for faith and country, accept our gratitude and glorification, and hear us as we implore You with faith. We pray for the souls of our fathers and brethren who for our faith and country fought and sacrificed themselves; whether they were slain in battle, hanged or executed, or they died in captivity and adversity, grant them rest together with Your Saints. As for us, grant that we all be worthy of freedom, and preserve us in peace. Maintain all officials and authorities of our Government in peace and concord, and grant stability to both Church and State. For You are the Lord of peace and the Savior of our souls, and to You we offer up glory, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and to the ages of ages.
