He sometido mi alma a las pasiones, deviniéndome de carácter bestial; mas no puedo levantar la cabeza y fijar la vista en Ti, Oh Cristo, Tú que moras en lo alto. Pues como el hijo pródigo, me inclino y suplico exclamando: “¡Oh Dios mío, perdóname y ten piedad de mí!” [AA-AR]

I have subjugated my soul’s honor to the sinful passions. I have become like a beast, and I am unable to look up at You, O Most High. But with my head hanging low, O Christ, like the Publican I pray to You and cry out: O God, be merciful to me, and save me. [SD]

Habiendo despreciado todas las cosas de la tierra, santos Mártires, y habiendo proclamado valientemente a Cristo en el estadio, recibieron de Él la recompensa por los tormentos; mas, como tienen confianza ante Él, les rogamos: suplíquenle, como Dios todopoderoso, que salve nuestras almas. [IA]

When you had wisely despised everything on earth, * O holy martyr Saints, * and had courageously acknowledged Christ in the stadium, * in return for the tortures you received your rewards from Him. * Now that you have acquired access to God the omnipotent, * we beseech you most fervently * to entreat Him in earnest * to save the souls of us sinners who flee to you. Les suplicamos que, junto con ellos, rueguen a nuestro Salvador y Dios que conceda paz al mundo y salve nuestras almas. [IA]

O world-famous Martyrs, the spiritual livestock, rational whole burnt offerings, and sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God: the earth did not conceal you, but heaven received you, and thus you share the fellowship of the Angels. We beseech you, pray with them unto our Savior and God, that He bring peace into the world, and that He save our souls. [SD]

Father, having led a quiet life * far from all the world’s agitation, guarded by grace divine, * you attained the state of freedom from the passions and sin. * And by means of your rigorous * ascetical practice * and the light of God that shone from you, you wholly subdued * ranks of demons. Tú, oh Theotokos, fuiste conocida como la Madre sobrenatural, y permaneciste Virgen indescriptible e incomprensiblemente, y la maravilla de tu alumbramiento la lengua no puede contar. Gloriosísima fue tu concepción e inconcebible tu alumbramiento. Pues cuando Dios lo quiere, cambia el orden de la naturaleza. El Señor dijo a Abrán: «Vete de tu tierra, de tu patria y de la casa de tu padre a la tierra que yo te mostraré. De ti haré una nación grande y te bendeciré. Engrandeceré tu nombre; y sé tú una bendición. Bendeciré a quienes te bendigan y maldeciré a quienes te maldigan. Por ti se bendecirán todos los linajes de la tierra.» Marchó, pues, Abrán, como se lo había dicho el Señor, y con él marchó Lot. Tenía Abrán setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Jarán. Tomó Abrán a Saray, su mujer, y a Lot, hijo de su hermano, con toda la hacienda que habían logrado y el personal que habían adquirido en Jarán, y salieron para dirigirse a Canaán. Llegaron a Canaán y Abrán atravesó el país hasta el lugar sagrado de Siquén, hasta la encina de Moré. Por entonces estaban los cananeos en el país. El Señor se apareció a Abrán y le dijo: «A tu descendencia he de dar esta tierra.» Entonces él edificó allí un altar al Señor que se le había aparecido. [BJ-SAOGM]

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Get out of your country, from your kindred and from your father’s house, to a land I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you; and in you all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed.” Then Abram departed as the Lord said to him, and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. So Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son and all their possessions and every soul they acquired in Haran, and they departed for the land of Canaan. Thus they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land. Wisdom. Arise.

Then he turns to face the people, blesses them crosswise with the candle, and says:

La luz de Cristo ilumina a todos.

The light of Christ shines on all.

Φῶς Χριστοῦ φαίνει πᾶσι.

Then he hands the candle and the censer to the acolyte.

El simple se lo cree todo, el prudente mira por dónde pisa. El sabio teme el mal y de él se aparta, el necio es arrogante y se confía. El irascible comete locuras, el reflexivo mantiene la calma. Los simples heredan necedad, los prudentes se rodean de saber. Los malos se inclinan ante los buenos, y los malvados, a la puerta de los justos. Aun al compañero le es odioso el pobre, el rico tiene muchos amigos. Quien desprecia a su prójimo peca, dichoso el que se apiada de los pobres. Los que traman el mal se extravían, amor y lealtad a los que traman el bien. Todo trabajo rinde beneficios, la charlatanería sólo indigencia. Corona de sabios es su riqueza, diadema de necios, su insensatez. El testigo veraz salva vidas, quien propaga mentiras es un homicida. El temor del Señor es firme confianza que dará seguridad a los hijos. [BJ-SAOGM]

A simple man believes in every word, but an astute man comes to repentance. A wise man fears and turns away from evil, but a man without discernment persuades himself to mingle with a lawless man. A quick-tempered man acts with recklessness, but a man with discernment bears many things. Men without discernment will share in evil, but the astute will take hold of perception. Evil men will slip and fall in the presence of good men, and the ungodly shall serve at the gate of the righteous. Friends will hate poor friends, but the friends of the rich are many. He who dishonors the poor sins, but he who has mercy on the poor is very blessed. Deceivers devise evil things, but good men devise mercy and truth. Devisers of evil things do not understand mercy and faithfulness, but mercies and faithfulness are with devisers of good things. To everyone who is careful there is an abundance, but he who is pleasure-taking and slothful shall be in want. The crown of the wise is astuteness, but the pastime of the undiscerning is evil. A faithful witness will rescue a soul from evil men, but a deceitful man kindles lies. In the fear of the Lord there is hope of strength, and to His children there remains support. [SAAS]

Ἄκακος ἀνὴρ πιστεύει παντὶ λόγῳ· πανοῦργος δὲ ἔρχεται εἰς μετάνοιαν. Σοφὸς φοβηθεὶς ἐξέκλινεν ἀπὸ κακοῦ· ὁ δὲ ἄφρων, ἑαυτῷ πεποιθώς, μίγνυται ἀνόμῳ. Ὀξύθυμος πράσσει μετὰ ἀβουλίας· ἀνὴρ δὲ φρόνιμος πολλὰ ὑποφέρει. Μεριοῦνται ἄφρονες κακίαν· οἱ δὲ πανοῦργοι κρατήσουσιν αἰσθήσεως. Ὀλισθήσουσι κακοὶ ἔναντι ἀγαθῶν, καὶ ἀσεβεῖς θεραπεύσουσι θύρας δικαίων. Φίλοι μισήσουσι φίλους πτωχούς, φίλοι δὲ πλουσίων πολλοί. Ὁ ἀτιμάζων πένητας ἁμαρτάνει, ὁ ἐλεῶν δὲ πτωχοὺς μακαριστός. Πλανώμενοι ἄδικοι τεκταίνουσι κακά· ἔλεον δὲ καὶ ἀλήθειαν τεκταίνουσιν ἀγαθοί. Οὐκ ἐπίστανται ἔλεον καὶ πίστιν τέκτονες κακῶν· ἐλεημοσύναι δὲ καὶ πίστεις παρὰ τέκτοσιν ἀγαθοῖς. Ἐν παντὶ μεριμνῶντι ἔνεστι περισσόν· ὁ δὲ ἡδὺς καὶ ἀνάλγητος ἐν ἐνδείᾳ ἔσται. Στέφανος σοφῶν πλοῦτος αὐτῶν· ἡ δὲ διατριβὴ ἀφρόνων κακή. Ῥύσεται ἐκ κακῶν ψυχὴν μάρτυς πιστός· ἐκκαίει δὲ ψευδῆ δόλιος. Ἐν φόβῳ Κυρίου ἐλπὶς ἰσχύος· τοῖς δὲ τέκνοις αὐτοῦ καταλείψει ἔρεισμα εἰρήνης.
