Timoteo, hijo mío, mantente fuerte en la gracia de Cristo Jesús; y cuanto me has oído en presencia de muchos testigos confíalo a hombres fieles, que sean capaces, a su vez, de instruir a otros. Soporta las fatigas conmigo, como un buen soldado de Cristo Jesús. Nadie que se dedica a la milicia se enreda en los negocios de la vida, si quiere complacer al que le ha alistado. Y lo mismo el atleta, que no recibe la corona si no ha competido según el reglamento. Y el labrador que trabaja es el primero que tiene derecho a percibir los frutos. Entiende lo que quiero decirte; seguro que el Señor te hará comprender todo. Acuérdate de Jesús Cristo, resucitado de entre los muertos, descendiente de David, según mi Evangelio. Por él estoy sufriendo en la cárcel, como si fuera un malhechor; pero la palabra de Dios no está encadenada. Así que todo lo soporto por los elegidos, para que también ellos alcancen la salvación y la gloria eterna que están en Cristo Jesús. [BJ-SAOGM]
Timothy, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to satisfy the one who enlisted him. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will grant you understanding in everything. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descended from David, as preached in my gospel, the gospel for which I am suffering and wearing fetters like a criminal. But the word of God is not fettered. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus with its eternal glory. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, entró Jesús de nuevo en Cafarnaún, y al poco tiempo corrió la voz de que estaba en casa. Se agolparon tantos que ni siquiera ante la puerta había ya sitio, mientras él les anunciaba la palabra. Entonces vinieron a traerle a un paralítico, llevado entre cuatro. Al no poder presentárselo a causa de la multitud, abrieron el techo encima de donde él estaba y, a través de la abertura practicada, descolgaron la camilla donde yacía el paralítico. Viendo Jesús la fe que tenían, dijo al paralítico: «Hijo, tus pecados te son perdonados.» Estaban allí sentados algunos escribas, que pensaban para sus adentros: «¿Por qué éste habla así? Está blasfemando. ¿Quién puede perdonar pecados, sino Dios sólo?» Pero, al instante, conociendo Jesús en su espíritu lo que ellos pensaban en su interior, les dijo: «¿Por qué piensan así en su interior? ¿Qué es más fácil, decir al paralítico ‘Tus pecados te son perdonados’ o decirle ‘Levántate, toma tu camilla y anda’? Pues para que sepan que el Hijo del hombre tiene en la tierra poder de perdonar pecados —dice al paralítico—: ‘A ti te digo, levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a tu casa.’» Se levantó y, tomando la camilla, salió al instante a la vista de todos, de modo que quedaron asombrados y alababan a Dios diciendo: «Jamás vimos cosa parecida.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus entered Capernaum and it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “My son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak thus? It is a blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your pallet and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” — he said to the paralytic — “I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home.” And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” [RSV]
