Hermanos, no es la comida lo que nos acerca a Dios; ni estaremos más cerca por no comer, ni más lejos por comer. Pero tengan cuidado; que esa libertad que tienen no sirva de tropiezo a los débiles. En efecto, si alguien te ve a ti, que posees ese conocimiento, sentado a la mesa en un templo pagano, ¿no se creerá autorizado por su conciencia, que es débil, a comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos? En tal caso, tu conocimiento habrá hecho que se pierda el débil: ¡un hermano por quien murió Cristo! Y pecando así contra sus hermanos, hiriendo su débil conciencia, pecan contra Cristo. Por tanto, si un alimento causa escándalo a mi hermano, nunca comeré de esa carne para no escandalizarlo. ¿No soy yo libre? ¿No soy yo apóstol? ¿Acaso no he visto yo a Jesús, Señor nuestro? ¿No son ustedes el fruto de mi tarea de anunciar al Señor? Si para otros no soy apóstol, para ustedes sí que lo soy; ¡ustedes son la confirmación de que soy apóstol del Señor! [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol’s temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother’s falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor: «Cuando el Hijo del hombre venga en su gloria, acompañado de todos sus ángeles, se sentará en su trono glorioso. Entonces serán congregadas delante de él todas las naciones, y él irá separando a unos de otros, como el pastor separa las ovejas de los cabritos. Pondrá las ovejas a su derecha, y los cabritos a su izquierda. Entonces dirá el Rey a los de su derecha: ‘Vengan, benditos de mi Padre, reciban la herencia del Reino preparado para ustedes desde la creación del mundo. Porque tuve hambre y me dieron de comer, tuve sed y me dieron de beber, era forastero y me acogieron, estaba desnudo y me vistieron, enfermo y me visitaron, en la cárcel y acudieron a mí.’ Entonces los justos le responderán: ‘Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento y te dimos de comer, o sediento y te dimos de beber? ¿Cuándo te vimos forastero y te acogimos, o desnudo y te vestimos? ¿Cuándo te vimos enfermo o en la cárcel, y acudimos a ti?’ Y el Rey les dirá: ‘Les aseguro que cuanto hicieron a uno de estos hermanos míos más pequeños, a mí me lo hicieron.’ Entonces dirá también a los de su izquierda: ‘Apártense de mí, malditos, al fuego eterno preparado para el diablo y sus ángeles. Porque tuve hambre y no me dieron de comer, tuve sed y no me dieron de beber, fui forastero y no me acogieron, anduve desnudo y no me vistieron, estuve enfermo y en la cárcel, y no me visitaron.’ Entonces dirán también éstos: ‘Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento o sediento o forastero o desnudo o enfermo o en la cárcel, y no te asistimos?’ Y él entonces les responderá: ‘Les aseguro que cuanto dejaron de hacer con uno de estos más pequeños, también conmigo dejaron de hacerlo.’ E irán éstos a un castigo eterno, y los justos a una vida eterna.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said, “When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.’ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” [RSV]

Pablo, prisionero de Cristo Jesús, y Timoteo, el hermano, a nuestro querido amigo y colaborador Filemón, a la hermana Apfia, a nuestro compañero de armas, Arquipo, y a la iglesia que se reúne en tu casa. Gracia y paz a ustedes de parte de Dios, nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesús Cristo. Doy gracias sin cesar a mi Dios, recordándote en mis oraciones, pues tengo noticia de tu caridad y de tu fe para con el Señor Jesús, para bien de todos los santos. Y pido a Dios que tu participación en la fe se haga eficiente mediante el conocimiento perfecto de todo el bien que hay en nosotros en orden a Cristo. Pues me alegraron mucho y me sirvieron de consuelo las noticias sobre tu caridad, por el alivio que los corazones de los santos han recibido de ti, hermano. Por lo cual, aunque en nombre de Cristo tengo suficiente libertad para mandarte lo que conviene, prefiero más bien rogarte en nombre de la caridad. Yo, este Pablo ya anciano, y además ahora preso de Cristo Jesús, te ruego en favor de mi hijo, de Onésimo, a quien engendré entre cadenas. Si en otro tiempo te fue inútil, ahora es muy útil para ti y para mí. Te lo devuelvo, y trátalo como a mí mismo. Me habría gustado retenerle junto a mí, para que me sirviera en tu lugar, en esta prisión que padezco por el Evangelio. Pero no he querido hacer nada sin consultarte, para que esta buena acción tuya no fuera forzada, sino voluntaria. Tal vez fue alejado de ti por algún tiempo, precisamente para que lo recuperaras para siempre, y no como esclavo, sino como algo mejor que un esclavo: como un hermano querido, que, siéndolo mucho para mí, ¡cuánto más lo será para ti, no sólo como amo, sino también en el Señor! Por tanto, si me sientes realmente unido a ti, acógele como a mí mismo. Y si en algo te perjudicó o algo te debe, ponlo a mi cuenta. Yo mismo, Pablo, lo firmo con mi puño. Yo te lo pagaré; por no recordarte deudas que tienes conmigo, pues tú mismo te me debes. Sí, hermano, hazme este favor en el Señor. ¡Alivia mi corazón en nombre de Cristo! Te escribo confiado en tu docilidad, seguro de que harás más de lo que te pido. Al mismo tiempo, prepárame hospedaje, pues espero que por sus oraciones se les conceda el favor de mi presencia. Te saludan Epafras, mi compañero de cautiverio en Cristo Jesús, Marcos, Aristarco, Demas y Lucas, mis colaboradores. La gracia del Señor Jesús Cristo esté con su espíritu. Amén. [BJ-SAOGM]

I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and all the saints, and I pray that the sharing of your faith may promote the knowledge of all the good that is ours in Christ Jesus. For we have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you. Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you — I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus — I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment. (Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.) I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart; receive him. I would have been glad to keep him with me, in order that he might serve me on your behalf during my imprisonment for the gospel; but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own free will. Perhaps this is why he was parted from you for a while, that you might have him back for ever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. So if you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me. If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account. I, Paul, write this with my own hand, I will repay it — to say nothing of your owing me even your own self. Yes, brother, I want some benefit from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord. Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say. At the same time, prepare a guest room for me, for I am hoping through your prayers to be granted to you. Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends greetings to you, and so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
