Hermanos, «Todo me es lícito», pero no todo me conviene. «Todo me es lícito», ¡pero no me dejaré dominar por nada! También suele decirse: «La comida para el vientre y el vientre para la comida». Pero Dios acabará con lo uno y lo otro. Además el cuerpo no es para la fornicación, sino para el Señor, y el Señor para el cuerpo. Y Dios, que resucitó al Señor, nos resucitará también a nosotros mediante su poder. ¿No saben que sus cuerpos son miembros de Cristo? Entonces, ¿había de tomar yo los miembros de Cristo para hacerlos miembros de prostituta? ¡De ningún modo! ¿O no saben que quien se une a la prostituta se hace un solo cuerpo con ella? Pues está dicho: Los dos se harán una sola carne. Mas el que se une al Señor, se hace un solo espíritu con él. ¡Huyan de la fornicación! Todo pecado que comete una persona queda fuera de su cuerpo; mas el que fornica, peca contra su propio cuerpo. ¿No saben que su cuerpo es templo del Espíritu Santo, que está en ustedes y que han recibido de Dios? Así que no se pertenecen; ¡han sido comprados a buen precio! Usen, pues, su cuerpo y su espíritu para honrar a Dios. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, “all things are permitted for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are permitted for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food” — and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two shall become one flesh.” But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to God. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor esta parábola: «Un hombre tenía dos hijos. El menor de ellos dijo al padre: ‘Padre, dame la parte de la hacienda que me corresponde.’ Y el padre les repartió la hacienda. Pocos días después, el hijo menor lo reunió todo y se marchó a un país lejano, donde malgastó su hacienda viviendo como un libertino. Cuando se lo había gastado todo, sobrevino una hambruna extrema en aquel país y comenzó a pasar necesidad. Entonces fue y se ajustó con uno de los ciudadanos de aquel país, que le envió a sus fincas a apacentar puercos. El muchacho deseaba llenar su vientre con las algarrobas que comían los puercos, pues nadie le daba nada. Entonces se puso a reflexionar y pensó: ‘¡Cuántos jornaleros de mi padre tienen pan en abundancia, mientras que yo aquí me muero de hambre! Me pondré en camino, iré donde mi padre y le diré: Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y ante ti. Ya no merezco ser llamado hijo tuyo; trátame como a uno de tus jornaleros.’ Entonces se avió y partió hacia su padre. Estando él todavía lejos, lo vio su padre y se conmovió; corrió, se echó a su cuello y le besó efusivamente. El hijo le dijo: ‘Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y ante ti. Ya no merezco ser llamado hijo tuyo.’ Pero el padre dijo a sus siervos: ‘Dense prisa. Traigan el mejor traje y vístanlo; pónganle un anillo en la mano y unas sandalias en los pies. Traigan el novillo cebado, mátenlo, y comamos y celebremos una fiesta, porque este hijo mío había muerto y ha vuelto a la vida; se había perdido y ha sido hallado.’ Y comenzaron la fiesta. Su hijo mayor estaba en el campo. Al volver, cuando se acercaba a la casa, oyó la música y las danzas. Llamó entonces a uno de los criados y le preguntó qué era aquello. Él respondió: ‘Es que ha vuelto tu hermano, y tu padre ha matado el novillo cebado, porque le ha recobrado sano.’ Él se irritó y no quería entrar. Salió su padre y le rogó que entrase. Pero él replicó a su padre: ‘Hace muchos años que te sirvo y jamás dejé de cumplir una orden tuya. Sin embargo, nunca me has dado un cabrito para tener una fiesta con mis amigos. Y ahora que ha venido ese hijo tuyo, que ha devorado tu hacienda con prostitutas, has matado para él el novillo cebado.’ Pero él replicó: ‘Hijo, tú siempre estás conmigo, y todo lo mío es tuyo. Pero convenía celebrar una fiesta y alegrarse, porque este hermano tuyo había muerto y ha vuelto a la vida, se había perdido y ha sido hallado.’» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said this parable: “There was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.’ And he divided his living between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his belly with the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.’ And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to make merry. Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant. And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.’ But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, but he answered his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!’ And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’” [RSV]

Hermanos, Dios, rico en misericordia, movido por el gran amor que nos tenía, estando muertos a causa de nuestros delitos, nos vivificó juntamente con Cristo —por gracia han sido salvados—, y con él nos resucitó y nos hizo sentar en los cielos en Cristo Jesús. De este modo, puso de manifiesto en los siglos venideros la sobreabundante riqueza de su gracia, por su bondad para con nosotros en Cristo Jesús. Pues han sido salvados gratuitamente, mediante la fe. Es decir, que esto no viene de ustedes, sino que es un don de Dios; tampoco viene de las obras, para que nadie se gloríe. En efecto, hechura suya somos: creados en Cristo Jesús para que hagamos buenas obras, que de antemano dispuso Dios que practicáramos. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, God who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God — not because of works, lest any man should boast. Guárdense de los hombres, porque los entregarán a los tribunales y los azotarán en sus sinagogas; serán conducidos ante gobernadores y reyes por mi causa, para que den testimonio ante ellos y ante los paganos. Mas cuando los entreguen, no se preocupen de cómo o qué van a hablar. Lo que tengan que hablar se les comunicará en aquel momento. Porque no serán ustedes los que hablen; será el Espíritu de su Padre el que hablará en ustedes. Entregará a la muerte hermano a hermano y padre a hijo; se rebelarán hijos contra padres y los matarán. Serán odiados por todos a causa de mi nombre, pero el que persevere hasta el fin se salvará.» [BJ-SAOGM]

Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake.
