Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Queridos, ésta es ya la segunda carta que les escribo. En ambas, con mi exhortación, he intentado despertar en ustedes el recto criterio. Acuérdense de las predicciones de los santos profetas y del mandamiento de sus apóstoles, que es el mismo del Señor y Salvador. Sepan ante todo que en los últimos días vendrán hombres cargados de sarcasmo, guiados por sus propias pasiones, que dirán en son de burla: «¿Dónde queda la promesa de su Venida? Pues desde que murieron los Padres, todo sigue como al principio de la creación.» Es gente que ignora conscientemente que hace tiempo existió un cielo, y también una tierra que surgió del agua y fue establecida entre las aguas por la palabra de Dios; y que el mundo de entonces pereció inundado por las aguas del diluvio. Y no quieren saber que los cielos y la tierra presentes, sujetos a esa misma palabra, están destinados al fuego y guardados hasta el día del Juicio y de la destrucción de los impíos. Pero hay algo, queridos, que no pueden ignorar: que, para el Señor, un día es como mil años, y mil años, como un día. No se retrasa el Señor en el cumplimiento de la promesa, como algunos lo suponen; lo que ocurre es que tiene paciencia con ustedes, pues no quiere que algunos perezcan, sino que todos lleguen a la conversión. El Día del Señor llegará como un ladrón. Entonces los cielos se desharán con ruido ensordecedor; los elementos, abrasados, se disolverán; y la tierra y cuanto contiene se consumirá. Puesto que todo esto va a ser consumido así, conviene que, afincados en su santa conducta y en la piedad, esperen y aceleren la venida del Día de Dios, el momento en que los cielos se disolverán entre llamas, y los elementos, abrasados, se fundirán. Pero nosotros, conforme a la promesa de Dios, esperamos unos nuevos cielos y una nueva tierra, en los que habite la justicia. Por lo tanto, queridos, en espera de estos acontecimientos, esfuércense porque él los encuentre en paz, sin mancilla y sin tacha. Consideren que la paciencia de nuestro Señor es para nuestra salvación, tal como se lo escribió también Pablo, nuestro querido hermano, según la sabiduría que le fue otorgada. Lo escribe también en todas las cartas en las que habla de esto, aunque hay en ellas cosas difíciles de entender, que los ignorantes y los débiles interpretan torcidamente —como también las demás Escrituras— para su propia perdición. Ustedes, pues, queridos, ya están advertidos. Vivan alerta, no sea que, arrastrados por el error de esos disolutos, se vean derribados de su firme postura. Crezcan, pues, en la gracia y en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador, Jesús Cristo. A él la gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén. [BJ-SAOGM]
Beloved, this is now the second letter that I have written to you, and in both of them I have aroused your sincere mind by way of reminder; that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles. First of all you must understand this, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own passions and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.” They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water and by means of water, through which the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of persons ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be kindled and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire! But according to his promise we wait for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you wait for these, be zealous to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count the forbearance of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, beware lest you be carried away with the error of lawless men and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor a sus discípulos: «Por esos días, después de aquella tribulación, el sol se oscurecerá, la luna no dará su resplandor, las estrellas irán cayendo del cielo, y las fuerzas que están en los cielos serán sacudidas. Entonces verán al Hijo del hombre viniendo entre nubes con gran poder y gloria; entonces enviará a los ángeles y reunirá de los cuatro vientos a sus elegidos, desde el extremo de la tierra hasta el extremo del cielo. De la higuera aprendan esta parábola: cuando ya sus ramas están tiernas y brotan las hojas, saben que el verano está cerca. Así también ustedes, cuando vean que sucede esto, saben que Él está cerca, a las puertas. Yo les aseguro que no pasará esta generación hasta que todo esto suceda. The Lord said to his disciples, “In those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
