Hermanos, también Cristo sufrió por ustedes, dejándoles un modelo para que sigan sus huellas. El que no cometió pecado, y en cuya boca no se halló engaño; el que, al ser insultado, no respondía con insultos; al padecer, no amenazaba, sino que se ponía en manos de Aquel que juzga con justicia; el mismo que, sobre el madero, llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo, a fin de que, muertos a nuestros pecados, viviéramos para la justicia; con cuyas heridas han sido curados. Eran como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora han vuelto al pastor y guardián de sus almas. Igualmente, ustedes, mujeres, sean sumisas a sus maridos para que, si incluso algunos no creen en la palabra, sean ganados no por las palabras sino por la conducta de sus mujeres, al considerar su conducta casta y respetuosa. Que su adorno no esté en él exterior, en peinados, joyas y modas, sino en lo oculto del corazón, en la incorruptibilidad de un espíritu dulce y sereno: esto es precioso ante Dios. Así se adornaban en otro tiempo las santas mujeres que esperaban en Dios, siendo sumisas a sus maridos; así obedeció Sara a Abrahán, llamándole Señor. De ella se hacen hijas cuando obran bien, sin tener ningún temor. De igual manera ustedes, maridos, en la vida común sean comprensivos con la mujer que es un ser más frágil, tributándoles honor como coherederas que son también de la gracia de Vida, para que sus oraciones no encuentren obstáculo. En conclusión, tengan todos unos mismos sentimientos, sean compasivos, ámense como hermanos, sean misericordiosos y humildes. No devuelvan mal por mal, ni insulto por insulto; por el contrario, bendigan, pues han sido llamados a heredar la bendición. [BJ-SAOGM]
Beloved, Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin; no guile was found on his lips. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls. Likewise you wives, be submissive to your husbands, so that some, though they do not obey the word, may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, when they see your reverent and chaste behavior. Let not yours be the outward adorning with braiding of hair, decoration of gold, and wearing of fine clothing, but let it be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable jewel of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. So once the holy women Who hoped in God used to adorn themselves and were submissive to their husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are now her children if you do right and let nothing terrify you. Likewise you husbands, live considerately with your wives, bestowing honor on the woman as the weaker vessel, since you are joint heirs of the grace of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered. Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love of the brethren, a tender heart and a humble mind. Do not return evil for evil or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas enviaron donde Jesús a algunos fariseos y herodianos, para cazarle en alguna palabra. Al llegar, le dijeron: «Maestro, sabemos que eres veraz y que no te importa de nadie, porque no miras la condición de las personas, sino que enseñas con franqueza el camino de Dios: ¿Es lícito pagar tributo al César o no? ¿Pagamos o dejamos de pagar?» Mas él, dándose cuenta de su hipocresía, les dijo: «¿Por qué me tientan? Tráiganme un denario, que lo vea.» Cuando se lo trajeron, les preguntó: «¿De quién son esta imagen y la inscripción?» Ellos respondieron: «Del César.» Jesús les dijo entonces: «Lo del César, devuélvanselo al César, y lo de Dios, a Dios.» Y se maravillaban de él. At that time, the chief priests and scribes sent to Jesus some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to entrap him in his talk. And they came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are true, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why put me to the test? Bring me a coin, and let me look at it.” And they brought one. And he said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were amazed at him.
