En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto para ser tentado por el diablo. Después de hacer un ayuno de cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, sintió hambre. El tentador se acercó y le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en panes.» Mas él respondió: «Está escrito: No sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.» Entonces el diablo lo llevó consigo a la Ciudad Santa, lo puso sobre el alero del Templo y le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo, porque está escrito: A sus ángeles te encomendará, y en sus manos te llevarán, para que no tropiece tu pie en piedra alguna.» Jesús le contestó: «También está escrito: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.» De nuevo lo llevó consigo el diablo a un monte muy alto, le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y su gloria, y le dijo: «Todo esto te daré si te postras y me adoras.» Le dice entonces Jesús: «Apártate, Satanás, porque está escrito: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y sólo a él darás culto.» El diablo finalmente lo dejó. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
