Nos dirigimos en procesión al lugar donde se ha preparado el recipiente con agua, con el Diácono delante del Sacerdote, este último sosteniendo en su mano derecha una cruz y un hisopo, y en su mano izquierda el libro de los Evangelios. Se paran ante el recipiente de agua mirando hacia el este, mientras los coros cantan los siguientes himnos:
We process to the place where the vessel of water is prepared, the Deacon in front of the Priest, the latter holding a cross and aspergillum in his right hand and the Gospel book in his left. They stand before the vessel of water facing east, as the choirs sing the following hymns:

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters, crying out and saying, “Come all, and receive the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the Spirit of the fear of God, yes, of Christ, who has come in His epiphany.” [GOASD] (3)

Hoy es santificada la naturaleza de las aguas, y el Jordán es partido, deteniendo las corrientes de sus aguas al ver lavarse en ellas al Dueño de todo. [SAOGM] (2 veces)
Today the substance of water is made holy, for the Master is washed in the Jordan. When the River sees Him, it stops its flow and bursts forth. [GOASD] (2)

Cristo Rey, has venido al río como hombre, y en tu bondad te apresuras a recibir el bautismo propio de un siervo de manos del Precursor, por causa de nuestros pecados, Amante de los hombres. [SAOGM] (2 veces)

A la voz del que clamaba en el desierto, ‘Preparen el camino del Señor,’ has acudido, Señor, tomando la forma de siervo, y tú que no conoces pecado pides ser bautizado. Viéndote las aguas temieron; el Precursor temblando exclamó: “¿Cómo podrá el candil iluminar la Luz? ¿Cómo podrá tocar el siervo al Dueño? Salvador, que quitas los pecados del mundo, santifícame a mí junto con las aguas.” [SAOGM]
When You had taken the form of a servant, O Lord, You approached John, the voice of the one crying in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of the Lord!” and You requested Baptism, although You were without sin. The waters saw You and were afraid. The Forerunner trembled in reaction, and he cried out and said, “How can I, who am the lamp, illumine You, who are the Light? How can I, the servant, lay my hand on You, my Master? I pray You sanctify me and the waters, O Savior, who takes away the sin of the world!” [GOASD]
Πρὸς τὴν φωνὴν τοῦ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ· Ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ Κυρίου· ἦλθες, Κύριε, μορφὴν δούλου λαβών, βάπτισμα αἰτῶν, ὁ μὴ γνοὺς ἁμαρτίαν. Oráculo del Señor: Que se alegren desierto y sequedal, que se regocije y florezca la estepa; que estalle en flores y se regocije, que lance gritos de júbilo. Le va a ser dada la gloria del Líbano, el esplendor del Carmelo y del Sarón. Podrá verse la gloria del Señor, el esplendor de nuestro Dios. Fortalezcan las manos débiles, afiancen las rodillas vacilantes. Digan a los de corazón inquieto: ¡Sean fuertes, no teman! Miren que llega su Dios vengador, Dios que les trae la recompensa; él vendrá y los salvará. Entonces se abrirán los ojos del ciego, las orejas de los sordos se destaparán. Entonces saltará el cojo como ciervo, la lengua del mudo gritará de júbilo. Pues manarán aguas en el desierto y correrán torrentes por la estepa; la paramera se trocará en estanque, y el país árido en manantial de aguas. En la guarida de los chacales verdeará la caña y el papiro. Habrá allí una senda purificada, que la llamarán Vía Sacra; no pasará el impuro por ella, ni los necios por ella vagarán. No habrá leones en ella, ni por ella subirá bestia salvaje; los rescatados la recorrerán. Los redimidos del Señor volverán, entrarán en Sión entre aclamaciones: precedidos por alegría eterna, seguidos de regocijo y alegría. ¡Adiós, penas y suspiros! [BJ-SAOGM]
Thus says the Lord: Be glad, you thirsty desert, and rejoice exceedingly, and let the desert blossom as a lily. The desert places of the Jordan shall blossom abundantly and rejoice exceedingly. The glory of Lebanon and the honor of Carmel shall be given to it, and My people shall see the glory of the Lord and the majesty of our God. Be strong, you relaxed hands and feeble knees. Be comforted, you fainthearted. Be strong, do not fear. Behold, our God renders judgment and will render it. He will come and save us. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall hear. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb will speak clearly. For water shall burst forth in the desert, and a valley in the thirsty land. The waterless desert shall become meadows, and the thirsty land springs of water. There will be the gladness of birds, a habitation of reeds and marshes. A pure way shall be there, and it shall be called a holy way. No unclean man shall pass through there, neither shall there be an unclean way there. But those dispersed shall walk in it, and they shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous animals go up on it, nor at all be found there. But the redeemed shall walk in it, and those gathered by the Lord shall return and come to Zion with gladness, and with everlasting gladness over their head. For praise and exceeding joy will be on their head, and gladness shall possess them. Pain, sorrow, and sighing fled away. [SAAS]

Oráculo del Señor: ¡Sedientos todos, vayan por agua; los que no tienen dinero, vengan; compren y coman de balde, vino y leche sin pagar! ¿A qué gastar en lo que no alimenta y fatigarse por lo que no sacia? Háganme caso y comerán bien, disfrutarán con algo sustancioso. Escúchenme y acudan a mí; oigan, y su vida prosperará. Haré con ustedes una alianza eterna: las fieles promesas hechas a David. Le nombré testigo de las naciones, caudillo y legislador de los pueblos. Llamarás a un pueblo que no conocías, un pueblo que no te conocía a ti correrá, por amor del Señor tu Dios, por el Santo de Israel, que te honra. Busquen al Señor mientras se deja encontrar; invoquen al Señor mientras está cercano. Que el malvado abandone su conducta, el hombre inicuo sus pensamientos, y se vuelva al Señor, el compasivo, a nuestro Dios, generoso en perdón. Porque mis pensamientos no son sus pensamientos, ni sus proyectos son mis proyectos —oráculo del Señor—. Pues cuanto se elevan los cielos sobre la tierra, del mismo modo se elevan mis proyectos sobre los suyos y mis pensamientos sobre los suyos. Del mismo modo que descienden la lluvia y la nieve de los cielos y no vuelven allá de vacío, sino que empapan la tierra, la fecundan y la hacen germinar, para que dé simiente al sembrador y produzca pan para comer, así será la palabra de mi boca: no tornará a mí de vacío, pues realizará lo que me he propuesto y será eficaz en lo que le mande. Con alegría saldrán, conducidos en paz; montes y colinas aclamarán a su paso, y pasarán entre los aplausos de todos los árboles del campo. En lugar del espino crecerá el ciprés; en lugar de la ortiga crecerá el mirto. Será para renombre del Señor, para señal eterna e imborrable. [BJ-SAOGM]
Thus says the Lord: “You who are thirsty, go to the water, and all who have no money, go and buy wine and fat, and eat and drink without money and price. Why do you value at the price of money, and give your toil for what does not satisfy? Listen to Me and eat good things, and your soul will delight in good things. Incline your ears and follow my ways. Listen to Me, and your soul shall live in good things; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the holy and faithful things of David. Behold, I made him a witness among the Gentiles, a ruler and commander to the Gentiles. The Gentiles, which did not know you, shall call upon you, and the peoples who did not understand you shall take refuge in you, because of your God, the Holy One of Israel; for He glorified you.” Seek God, and when you find Him, call upon Him when He draws near to you. Let the ungodly man abandon his ways, and the lawless man his counsels; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; for He shall forgive your sins abundantly. “For My counsels are not as your counsels, neither are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “But as heaven is distant from earth, so is My way distant from your ways, and your thoughts from My mind. For as rain comes down, or snow from heaven, and does not return until it saturates the earth, and it brings forth and produces, and gives seed to the sower and bread for food, so shall My word be, whatever proceeds from My mouth. It shall not return until it accomplishes whatever I willed, and I shall prosper your ways and My commandments. For you shall go forth with gladness and shall be taught with joy, for the mountains and hills shall exult to receive you with joy; and all the trees of the field shall applaud with their branches. Oráculo del Señor: Sacarán agua con gozo de los hontanares de salvación, y dirán aquel día: «Den gracias al Señor, aclamen su nombre, divulguen entre los pueblos sus hazañas, pregonen que es sublime su nombre. Canten al Señor, porque ha hecho proezas, algo digno de saberse en toda la tierra. Griten de gozo y de júbilo, moradores de Sión: grande es en medio de ti el Santo de Israel.» [BJ-SAOGM]
Thus says the Lord: You will draw water with gladness from the wells of salvation. In that day, you will say, “Praise the Lord; call upon His name. Hermanos, no quiero que ignoren que nuestros antepasados estuvieron todos bajo la nube y que todos atravesaron el mar, de modo que todos quedaron vinculados a Moisés al ser bautizados en la nube y en el mar. Además todos comieron el mismo alimento espiritual y bebieron la misma bebida espiritual, pues bebían de la roca espiritual que les seguía; y la roca era Cristo. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, I want you to know that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock which followed them, and the Rock was Christ. [RSV]
Ἀδελφοί, οὐ θέλω ὑμᾶς ἀγνοεῖν, ὅτι οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν πάντες ὑπὸ τὴν νεφέλην ἦσαν, καὶ πάντες διὰ τῆς θαλάσσης διῆλθον, καὶ πάντες εἰς τὸν Μωϋσῆν ἐβαπτίσαντο ἐν τῇ νεφέλῃ καὶ ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, καὶ πάντες τὸ αὐτὸ βρῶμα πνευματικὸν ἔφαγον, καὶ πάντες τὸ αὐτὸ πόμα πνευματικὸν ἔπιον· ἔπινον γὰρ ἐκ πνευματικῆς ἀκολουθούσης πέτρας, ἡ δὲ πέτρα ἦν ὁ Χριστός.

En aquel tiempo, vino Jesús desde Nazaret de Galilea, y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. En cuanto salió del agua, vio que los cielos se rasgaban y que el Espíritu, en forma de paloma, bajaba sobre él. Entonces se oyó una voz que venía de los cielos: «Tú eres mi Hijo amado; en ti me complazco.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” [RSV]
Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἦλθεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ Ναζαρὲτ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη ὑπὸ Ἰωάννου εἰς τὸν Ἰορδάνην. καὶ εὐθέως ἀναβαίνων ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕδατος εἶδε σχιζομένους τοὺς οὐρανοὺς καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα ὡς περιστερὰν καταβαῖνον ἐπ᾿ αὐτόν· καὶ φωνὴ ἐγένετο ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν· σὺ εἶ ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν σοὶ ηὐδόκησα.

Por la paz de lo alto y por la salvación de nuestras almas, roguemos al Señor.
For the peace from above and for the salvation of our souls, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τῆς ἄνωθεν εἰρήνης καὶ τῆς σωτηρίας τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por la paz del mundo entero, la estabilidad de las santas Iglesias de Dios y la unión de todos, roguemos al Señor.
For the peace of the whole world, for the stability of the holy churches of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τῆς εἰρήνης τοῦ σύμπαντος κόσμου, εὐσταθείας τῶν ἁγίων τοῦ Θεοῦ Ἐκκλησιῶν καὶ τῆς τῶν πάντων ἑνώσεως, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por esta santa morada y por todos los que en ella entran con fe, devoción y temor de Dios, roguemos al Señor.
For this holy house and for those who enter it with faith, reverence, and the fear of God, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἁγίου οἴκου τούτου, καὶ τῶν μετὰ πίστεως, εὐλαβείας καὶ φόβου Θεοῦ εἰσιόντων ἐν αὐτῷ, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por los cristianos piadosos y ortodoxos, roguemos al Señor.
For pious and Orthodox Christians, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τῶν εὐσεβῶν καὶ ὀρθοδόξων χριστιανῶν, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por nuestro arzobispo (N.), el honorable presbiterado y el diaconado en Cristo; por todo el clero y el pueblo, roguemos al Señor.
For our Archbishop (name), for the honorable presbyterate, for the diaconate in Christ, and for all the clergy and the people, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ Ἀρχιεπισκόπου ἡμῶν (δεῖνος), τοῦ τιμίου πρεσβυτερίου, τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ διακονίας, παντὸς τοῦ κλήρου καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por nuestra piadosa nación, por toda autoridad y poder roguemos al Señor.
For our country, the president, all those in public service, and for our armed forces everywhere, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ εὐσεβοῦς ἡμῶν ἔθνους, πάσης ἀρχῆς καὶ ἐξουσίας ἐν αὐτῷ, τοῦ κατὰ ξηρὰν θάλασσαν καὶ ἀέρα φιλοχρίστου ἡμῶν στρατοῦ, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por esta ciudad (Monasterio, Pueblo, o Isla), por toda ciudad y país, y por los fieles que en ellos habitan, roguemos al Señor.
For the Holy and Great Church of Christ, for our Sacred Archdiocese, [for this Sacred Metropolis,] for this city and parish, for every city and land, and for the faithful who live in them, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τῆς πόλεως ταύτης, πάσης πόλεως, χώρας καὶ τῶν πίστει οἰκούντων ἐν αὐταῖς, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por un clima benéfico, por la abundancia de los frutos de la tierra y por tiempos pacíficos, roguemos al Señor.
For favorable weather, for an abundance of the fruits of the earth, and for peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ εὐκρασίας ἀέρων, εὐφορίας τῶν καρπῶν τῆς γῆς καὶ καιρῶν εἰρηνικῶν, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por quienes viajan por mar, tierra o aire, por los enfermos, los afligidos, los cautivos y por su salvación, roguemos al Señor.
For those who travel by land, sea, and air, for the sick, the suffering, the captives and for their salvation, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ πλεόντων, ὁδοιπορούντων, νοσούντων, καμνόντων, αἰχμαλώτων καὶ τῆς σωτηρίας αὐτῶν, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que esta agua sea santificada, con el poder, la acción y la venida del Espíritu Santo, roguemos al Señor.
That this water become holy by the might, and operation, and descent of the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἁγιασθῆναι τὸ ὕδωρ τοῦτο, τῇ δυνάμει καὶ ἐνεργείᾳ καὶ ἐπιφοιτήσει τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que venga sobre esta agua la acción purificadora de la Santísima Trinidad suprasubstancial, roguemos al Señor.
That the cleansing operation of the super-substantial Trinity descend upon these waters, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ καταφοιτῆσαι τοῖς ὕδασι τούτοις τὴν καθαρτικὴν τῆς ὑπερουσίου Τριάδος ἐνέργειαν, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que a estas aguas sea concedida la gracia de la redención y la bendición del Jordán, roguemos al Señor.
That the grace of redemption and the blessing of the Jordan be sent upon them, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ δωρηθῆναι αὐτοῖς τὴν χάριν τῆς ἀπολυτρώσεως, τὴν εὐλογίαν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que seamos iluminados por la luz de la sabiduría y de la piedad, por el descenso del Espíritu Santo, roguemos al Señor.
That we be illumined with the light of knowledge and right belief through the descent of the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ φωτισθῆναι ἡμᾶς φωτισμὸν γνώσεως καὶ εὐσεβείας, διὰ τῆς ἐπιφοιτήσεως τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que esta agua sea un don de santificación, remisión de pecados, curación de almas y cuerpos, para todo buen propósito, roguemos al Señor.
That this water become the gift of sanctification, redemption from sins, for the healing of soul and body, and for every beneficial purpose, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ γενέσθαι τὸ ὕδωρ τοῦτο ἁγιασμοῦ δῶρον, ἁμαρτημάτων λυτήριον, εἰς ἴασιν ψυχῆς καὶ σώματος, καὶ πᾶσαν ὠφέλειαν ἐπιτήδειον, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que esta agua brote como manantial de vida eterna, roguemos al Señor.
That it become water welling up to eternal life, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ γενέσθαι αὐτὸ ὕδωρ ἁλλόμενον εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que sea prevención contra toda asechanza de nuestros enemigos visibles e invisibles, roguemos al Señor.
That it effect the averting of every plot of visible and invisible enemies, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἀναδειχθῆναι αὐτὸ ἀποτρόπαιον πάσης ἐπιβουλῆς ὁρατῶν καὶ ἀοράτων ἐχθρῶν, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por los que la reciban y la lleven para la santificación de sus hogares, roguemos al Señor.
For those who are sprinkled with it and take it for the blessing of homes, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τῶν ἀντλούντων καὶ ἀρυομένων εἰς ἁγιασμὸν οἴκων, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que sea purificación de alma y cuerpo de todos los que la reciban y la beban, roguemos al Señor.
That it effect purification of soul and body for all who take and drink it with faith, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ γενέσθαι αὐτὸ πρὸς καθαρισμὸν ψυχῶν καὶ σωμάτων, πᾶσι τοῖς ἀρυομένοις πίστει, καὶ μεταλαμβάνουσιν ἐξ αὐτοῦ, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que seamos dignos de ser infundidos de santificación por tomar de estas aguas, por la manifestación invisible del Espíritu Santo, roguemos al Señor.
That it be granted us to be filled with sanctification through drinking this water, by the invisible manifestation of the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ καταξιωθῆναι ἡμᾶς ἐμπλησθῆναι ἁγιασμοῦ, διὰ τῆς τῶν ὑδάτων τούτων μεταλήψεως, τῇ ἀοράτῳ ἐπιφανείᾳ τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Para que el Señor Dios escuche la voz de suplica de nosotros que somos pecadores y que tenga piedad de nosotros, roguemos al Señor.
That the Lord God listen to the voice of the prayer of us sinners and have mercy on us, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ εἰσακοῦσαι Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν φωνῆς τῆς δεήσεως ἡμῶν τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν, καὶ ἐλεῆσαι ἡμᾶς, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Por nuestra liberación de toda tribulación, ira, peligro y necesidad, roguemos al Señor.
For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger, and distress, let us pray to the Lord.
Ὑπὲρ τοῦ ῥυσθῆναι ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ πάσης θλίψεως, ὀργῆς, κινδύνου καὶ ἀνάγκης, τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.
Ampáranos, sálvanos, ten piedad de nosotros y protégenos, Dios, por tu gracia.
Help us, save us, have mercy on us, and protect us, O God, by Your grace.
Ἀντιλαβοῦ, σῶσον, ἐλέησον καὶ διαφύλαξον ἡμᾶς, ὁ Θεός, τῇ σῇ χάριτι.
Conmemorando a la Santísima, pura, benditísima, y gloriosa doncella nuestra, la Theotokos y siempre Virgen María; con todos los santos, encomendémonos cada uno a sí mismo y unos a otros y nuestra vida entera a Cristo nuestro Dios.
Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.
Τῆς παναγίας, ἀχράντου, ὑπερευλογημένης, ἐνδόξου, δεσποίνης ἡμῶν Θεοτόκου καὶ ἀειπαρθένου Μαρίας μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων μνημονεύσαντες, ἑαυτοὺς καὶ ἀλλήλους καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ζωὴν ἡμῶν Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ παραθώμεθα.

El sacerdote reza la siguiente oración en voz baja.
The Priest says the following prayer quietly.
Ὁ Ἱερεὺς λέγει καθʼ ἑαυτὸν τὴν εὐχὴν ταύτην.
Cuando no hay diácono, por necesidad el sacerdote reza esta oración mientras se leen las lecturas proféticas.
When there is no Deacon, by necessity the Priest reads this prayer while the Prophecies are being read.
Μὴ διακονοῦντος Διακόνου, ο Ἱερεὺς ἀναγινώσκει κατʼ ἀνάγκην τὴν εὐχὴν ταύτην ἀναγινωσκομένων τῶν Προφητειῶν.

ΙΕΡΕΥΣ (μυστικῶς)
Señor Jesús Cristo, Hijo Unigénito que permaneces en el seno del Padre, Dios verdadero, Fuente de vida e inmortalidad, Luz de Luz, que viniste al mundo a iluminarlo, ilumina nuestras mentes con tu Espíritu Santo, y recíbenos al ofrecerte gloria y gratitud por todas tus grandes obras maravillosas, que son por siglos de siglos, y por tu salvadora dispensación en estos últimos días, en la que te has revestido de nuestra naturaleza pobre y débil, condescendiendo hasta tomar la forma de siervo, Tú que eres Rey de todo, y te dignaste ser bautizado en el Jordán por la mano de un siervo, para que, habiendo santificado la naturaleza del agua, Tú que eres impecable, nos indicaras un nuevo nacimiento por el agua y el Espíritu, y nos restauraras a nuestra prístina libertad. Celebrando la memoria de este misterio divino, te suplicamos, Señor que amas a los hombres, que nos rocíes, a tus siervos indignos, de acuerdo con tu promesa divina, del agua purificadora, el don de tu entrañable misericordia; y que te agraden las suplicas de nosotros pecadores sobre esta agua en tu bondad, y que por ella sea concedida tu bendición a nosotros y a todo tu pueblo fiel, para la gloria de tu santo y adorable nombre.
Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, true God, the source of life and immortality, light from light, who came into the world to enlighten it: Illumine our mind, by Your Holy Spirit, and accept us, as we ascribe to You greatness and gratitude, for the mighty miracles You performed from the beginning, and for Your plan for salvation in these last times. According to this plan, You, the King of the universe, put on our infirm substance and assumed the position of servitude, and even accepted to be baptized in the River Jordan by the hand of a servant, so that You who are sinless might sanctify the element of water and pave the way for our rebirth through water and the Spirit and restore us to our original freedom. As we celebrate the commemoration of this divine mystery, O benevolent Master, we entreat You: Sprinkle cleansing water, the gift of Your tender mercy, on us Your unworthy servants, according to Your divine promise, so that the prayer of us sinners over this water be well received by Your goodness, and so that Your blessing be granted through it to us and to all Your faithful people, to the glory of Your holy and worshipful name.
Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, ὁ μονογενὴς Υἱός, ὁ ὢν εἰς τὸν κόλπον τοῦ Πατρός, ὁ ἀληθινὸς Θεός, ἡ πηγὴ τῆς ζωῆς καὶ τῆς ἀθανασίας, τὸ φῶς τὸ ἐκ φωτός, ὁ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὸν κόσμον τοῦ φωτίσαι αὐτόν, καταύγασον ἡμῶν τὴν διάνοιαν τῷ Ἁγίῳ σου Πνεύματι καὶ πρόσδεξαι ἡμᾶς, μεγαλωσύνην καὶ εὐχαριστίαν σοι προσάγοντας ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀπʼ αἰῶνος θαυμαστοῖς σου μεγαλουργήμασι καὶ τῇ ἐπʼ ἐσχάτων τῶν αἰώνων σωτηρίῳ σου οἰκονομίᾳ· ἐν ᾗ τὸ ἀσθενὲς ἡμῶν καὶ πτωχὸν περιβαλόμενος φύραμα καὶ τοῖς τῆς δουλείας μέτροις συγκατιών, ὁ τῶν ἁπάντων Βασιλεύς, ἔτι καὶ δουλικῇ χειρὶ ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ βαπτισθῆναι κατεδέξω, ἵνα τὴν τῶν ὑδάτων φύσιν ἁγιάσας ὁ ἀναμάρτητος, ὁδοποιήσῃς ἡμῖν τὴν διʼ ὕδατος καὶ Πνεύματος ἀναγέννησιν καὶ πρὸς τὴν πρώτην ἡμᾶς ἀποκαταστήσῃς ἐλευθερίαν· οὗ τινος θείου μυστηρίου τὴν ἀνάμνησιν ἑορτάζοντες, δεόμεθά σου, Δέσποτα, φιλάνθρωπε· ῥᾶνον καὶ ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς τοὺς ἀναξίους δούλους σου, κατὰ τὴν θείαν σου ἐπαγγελίαν, ὕδωρ καθάρσιον, τῆς σῆς εὐσπλαγχνίας τὴν δωρεάν, εἰς τὸ τὴν ἐπὶ τῷ ὕδατι τούτῳ αἴτησιν ἡμῶν τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν εὐπρόσδεκτον γενέσθαι τῇ σῇ ἀγαθότητι, καὶ τὴν εὐλογίαν σου διʼ αὐτοῦ ἡμῖν τε καὶ παντὶ τῷ πιστῷ σου χαρισθῆναι λαῷ, εἰς δόξαν τοῦ ἁγίου καὶ προσκυνητοῦ σου ὀνόματος.

Oh Trinidad inmaterial, llena de bondad, que estás por encima de toda divinidad, todopoderosa, que todo lo contienes, invisible, incomprensible, creadora de las substancias espirituales y de las naturalezas racionales, bondad eterna, luz inaccesible, que iluminas a todo hombre que viene al mundo, ilumíname también a mí tu servidor, aunque no lo merezco, y da luz a los ojos de mi entendimiento para que me atreva a alabar tus beneficios, que no tienen número, y tu ilimitado poder. Que mi plegaria por el pueblo, aquí presente, sea aceptada por Ti, para que nuestros pecados no impidan la venida de la gracia del Espíritu Santo a este lugar. Trinity, superessential, surpassingly good, supremely divine, omnipotent, omniscient, invisible, inconceivable, Creator of spiritual entities and intelligent beings, intrinsic goodness, unapproachable light that enlightens everyone coming into the world, shine in me Your unworthy servant; illumine the eyes of my mind, so that I may dare to extol Your immense beneficence and power. May my supplication for the people here present be well received, and let not my offences prevent Your Holy Spirit from being here. Rather permit me now to address You blamelessly, and to say to You, O supremely good God: We glorify You, benevolent Master, pre-eternal King and Ruler over all! We glorify You, the creator and maker of all! We glorify You, only-begotten Son of God, born from Your Mother without a father, and from Your Father without a mother. In the previous feast, we saw You, the infant; and in this one we see You, the mature adult, our perfect God from perfect God, who appeared on earth.

Today, the season to celebrate is upon us. In church with us is the host of Saints. Angels and humans celebrate together. Today, the grace of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove descended upon the waters. Today, the unsetting Sun arose, and the world is brightened by the light of the Lord. Today, the moon, along with the world, is illuminated by the brilliant rays. Today, the stars are sparkling and they adorn the earth with shining radiance. Today, the clouds are sprinkling the heavenly rain of righteousness on humankind.
Σήμερον γὰρ ὁ τῆς ἑορτῆς ἡμῖν ἐπέστη καιρός, καὶ χορὸς Ἁγίων ἐκκλησιάζει ἡμῖν καὶ Ἄγγελοι μετὰ ἀνθρώπων συνεορτάζουσι. Σήμερον ἡ χάρις τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος ἐν εἴδει περιστερᾶς τοῖς ὕδασιν ἐπεφοίτησε. Hoy el Increado acepta la imposición de manos de su criatura. Hoy el Profeta y Precursor se acerca al Señor, pero se detiene atemorizado al ver la condescendencia de Dios hacia nosotros. Today, the Uncreated is intentionally touched by the hand of His creature. Today, the Prophet and Forerunner approaches the Lord, but he serves Him with trembling, beholding God’s condescension to us. Today, by the presence of the Lord, the Jordan’s waters are transformed into cures. Today, all creation is watered by mystical streams. Today, people’s failures are wiped out in the waters of the Jordan. Today, Paradise is opened to people, and the Sun of Righteousness shines on us.

Hoy el agua, que era amarga en tiempos de Moisés, se convierte en dulzura con la presencia del Señor. Hoy hemos sido librados de los antiguos lamentos y, como un nuevo Israel, hemos sido salvados. Hoy hemos sido rescatados de las tinieblas y ha brillado para nosotros la luz del conocimiento de Dios. Hoy las sombras del mundo se disipan con la Epifanía (manifestación) de nuestro Dios. Hoy toda la creación recibe la luz de los cielos. Hoy el error es abatido y la venida del Señor nos ha abierto el camino de la salvación.
Today, the bitter water encountered by Moses in the wilderness is made sweet for the people, because of the Lord’s presence. Today, we are liberated from the old lament, and, as the new Israel, we are delivered. Today, we are rescued from the darkness, and we are illumined by the light of divine knowledge. Today, the mist over the world is removed, because of our God’s appearance. Today, the brilliant light from on high shines on all creation. Today, error and delusion are quashed, and the Master’s advent opens for us the way of salvation.

Hoy los celestiales celebran esta fiesta junto con los terrestres y los que están abajo se unen a los de las alturas. Hoy el pueblo ortodoxo a grandes voces se regocija. Hoy el Señor viene a ser bautizado para elevar a la humanidad hasta las alturas. Hoy el que nunca se inclina. se inclina ante su siervo para librarnos de la esclavitud. Today, the heavens celebrate with the earth, and the earth converses with the heavens. Today, the sacred assembly of the Orthodox is resoundingly celebrating. Today, the Master comes to be baptized, in order to lift human nature to heaven. Today, the unbowed Master bows before His servant, in order to free us from slavery. Today, we have purchased the kingdom of heaven. The Lord’s kingdom shall have no end. Today, earth and sea share the joy of the world, and the world is filled with gladness.

Te han contemplado las aguas, oh Dios, te han visto las aguas y han tenido miedo. El Jordán volvió hacia atrás cuando vio el fuego de la Divinidad venir y reposarse sobre él en forma humana. El Jordán volvió hacia atrás cuando vio venir al Espíritu Santo en forma de paloma y posarse sobre Ti. The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and were afraid. The Jordan turned back, when it saw the fire of divinity bodily go down and into it. The Jordan turned back, when it saw the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove come down and hover over You. The Jordan turned back, when it saw the Invisible visible, the Creator incarnate, the Master in the form of a servant. The Jordan turned back, and the mountains skipped, when they saw God in the flesh; and the clouds uttered their voice, as they watched their Master’s assembly at the Jordan today, and they marveled at You who came, light from light, true God from true God; when in the Jordan You buried the death that resulted from disobedience, the sting of error and delusion, and the shackles of Hades, and You presented saving baptism to the world.

Porque Tú, por tu propia voluntad, de la nada has traído todas las cosas a la existencia, y por tu poder mantienes toda la creación, y por tu providencia ordenas el mundo Constituiste con los cuatro elementos la creación; coronaste el ciclo del año con cuatro estaciones. Ante ti tiemblan todas las potestades razonables. El sol canta tus alabanzas, y la luna te glorifica; las estrellas interceden contigo. Te obedece la luz. You intentionally brought the universe from nothing into being. You hold creation together by Your power. You govern the cosmos by Your providence. When You constituted the created world out of the Four Elements, You crowned the cycle of the year with four seasons. All the spiritual hosts tremble before You. The sun extols You. The moon glorifies You. The stars converse with You. Light obeys You. The depths shudder at You. Springs and fountains serve You. You stretched out the heavens like a curtain. You made firm the earth on the waters. You surrounded the sea with a wall of sand. You poured out the air for all to breathe.
Σὺ γάρ, βουλήσει ἐξ οὐκ ὄντων εἰς τὸ εἶναι παραγαγὼν τὰ σύμπαντα, τῷ σῷ κράτει συνέχεις τὴν κτίσιν καὶ τῇ σῇ προνοίᾳ διοικεῖς τὸν κόσμον. Angelic powers minister to You. Hosts of Archangels worship You. The many-eyed Cherubim and the six-winged Seraphim, standing around You and flying about, cover themselves in awe of Your unapproachable glory.

Porque Tú, el Dios incircunscrito, sin comienzo e inefable, descendiste a la tierra, tomando la forma de un siervo y haciéndote a semejanza del hombre. Pues no toleraba tu entrañable misericordia, Dueño ver a la raza de los hombres bajo la tiranía del diablo, porque viniste a salvarnos. You who are God, uncircumscribed, without beginning, and ineffable, came to earth, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men, because in Your tender mercy, O Master, You did not bear to see the human race being tortured by the devil; so You came and saved us. We acknowledge Your gift, we proclaim Your mercy, we do not hide Your goodness. You freed the offspring of our nature. By being born You sanctified a virgin womb. All creation extolled You at Your epiphany. You, our God, were seen upon the earth and lived among men. When You sent down Your all-holy Spirit from heaven and crushed the heads of the dragons who were lurking in the water, You sanctified the River Jordan.

Y concédele la gracia de la redención, la bendición del Jordán. Haz de ella una fuente de incorrupción, un don de santificación. una remisión de pecados, un remedio de enfermedades, una destrucción de demonios, inaccesible a las potestades hostiles, llenada de poder angelical, a fin de que sea para los que la reciban y la tomen para purificación de sus almas y cuerpos, para curación de las pasiones, para santificación de sus hogares y para todo buen propósito.
Infuse it with the grace of redemption, the blessing of the Jordan. Make it a source of immortality, a bestowal of sanctification, expiation of sins, defense against disease, deadly to demons, unapproachable by hostile forces, and filled with angelic might. So that all who take this water and drink it may use it for cleansing of soul and body, healing of illness, house blessings, and any other beneficial purpose.

You are our God, who by water and the Spirit renewed nature that was worn out by sin. You are our God, who by the flood waters in the days of Noah washed away sin. You are our God, who split the rock in the desert, and waters flowed, and brooks flooded, and You gave the people water to drink and satisfied them. Give sanctification, blessing, cleansing, and health to all who either touch it, are sprinkled with it, or drink it. Incline Your ear and hear us, O Lord, who consented to be baptized in the Jordan River and sanctified the waters. Bless all of us, who are bowing our heads to show that we are Your servants. Grant us to be filled with Your sanctification, through either drinking this water or being sprinkled with it; and may it be to us for health of soul and body.
