Hermanos, daba a entender el Espíritu Santo que aún no estaba abierto el camino del santuario mientras subsistiera la primera Tienda. Todo ello es un símbolo del tiempo presente, en que se ofrecen dones y sacrificios incapaces de perfeccionar en su conciencia al que da culto, y sólo son prescripciones carnales, que versan sobre comidas y bebidas y sobre abluciones de todo género, impuestas hasta el tiempo de la renovación. En cambio se presentó Cristo como sumo sacerdote de los bienes futuros, a través de una Tienda mayor y más perfecta, no fabricada por mano de hombre, es decir, no de este mundo. Y penetró en el santuario una vez para siempre, no con sangre de machos cabríos ni de novillos, sino con su propia sangre, consiguiendo una liberación definitiva. Pues si la sangre de machos cabríos y de toros y la ceniza de una becerra santifican con su aspersión a los contaminados, en orden a la purificación de la carne, ¡cuánto más la sangre de Cristo, que por el Espíritu eterno se ofreció a sí mismo sin mancha a Dios, purificará de las obras muertas nuestra conciencia para rendir culto al Dios vivo! Por eso es mediador de una nueva alianza; para que, interviniendo una muerte que libera de las transgresiones de la primera alianza, reciban, los llamados, la herencia eterna prometida. Pues donde hay testamento se requiere que conste la muerte del testador, ya que el testamento es válido en caso de defunción, no teniendo valor en vida del testador. Así tampoco la primera alianza se inauguró sin sangre. Pues Moisés, después de haber leído a todo el pueblo todos los preceptos según la Ley, tomó la sangre de los novillos y machos cabríos con agua, lana escarlata e hisopo, y roció el libro mismo y a todo el pueblo diciendo: Esta es la sangre de la alianza que Dios ha ordenado para ustedes. Igualmente roció con sangre la Tienda y todos los objetos del culto; pues según la Ley, casi todo ha de ser purificado con sangre, y sin derramamiento de sangre no hay remisión. Así pues, si es necesario que las figuras de las realidades celestiales sean purificadas de esa manera, también lo es que las realidades celestiales se purifiquen pero con sacrificios más excelentes que aquéllas. Brethren, the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the sanctuary is not yet opened as long as the outer tent is still standing (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, but deal only with food and drink and various ablutions, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation. But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the Holy Place, through not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant. For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. Hence even the first covenant was not ratified without blood. For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, Jesús entró en Jerusalén, en el Templo, y, después de observar todo a su alrededor, siendo ya tarde, salió con los Doce para Betania. Al día siguiente, cuando salían de Betania, sintió hambre. Al ver de lejos una higuera con hojas, fue a ver si encontraba algo en ella. Se acercó a ella, pero no encontró más que hojas. (Es que no era tiempo de higos.) Entonces le dijo: «¡Que nunca jamás coma nadie fruto de ti!» Sus discípulos oyeron lo que decía. Llegaron a Jerusalén. Una vez allí, entró Jesús en el Templo y comenzó a echar fuera a los vendedores y compradores; volcó las mesas de los cambistas y los puestos de los vendedores de palomas, y no permitía que nadie transportase cosas por el Templo. Y les enseñaba, diciendo: «¿No está escrito: Mi casa será llamada casa de oración para todas las gentes? ¡Pero ustedes la tienen hecha una cueva de bandidos!» Se enteraron de esto los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que buscaban la forma de poder matarle. Y es que le tenían miedo, pues toda la gente estaba asombrada de su doctrina. Al caer la tarde, salió de la ciudad. Al pasar muy de mañana, vieron la higuera, que estaba seca hasta la raíz. Pedro se acordó y le dijo: «¡Rabbí, mira!, la higuera que maldijiste está seca.» Jesús les respondió: «Tengan fe en Dios. Yo les aseguro que quien diga a este monte: ‘Quítate y arrójate al mar’, sin vacilar en su interior y creyendo que va a suceder lo que dice, lo obtendrá.» [BJ-SAOGM]

But you have made it a den of robbers.” And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and sought a way to destroy him; for they feared him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching. And when evening came he went out of the city. As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered.” And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.
