Aquel a quien nada puede contener, ¿cómo puede ser contenido en un seno? Aquel que reposa en el seno del Padre ¿cómo está en los brazos de una Madre? Sólo Él lo sabe, Él lo ha querido, tal ha sido su beneplácito. Él, que es el incorporal, ha tomado carne voluntariamente. Aquel que es, se ha hecho por nosotros lo que no era y, sin salir de su naturaleza, se hace partícipe de nuestra condición humana. El origen de Jesús Cristo fue de la siguiente manera. Su madre, María, estaba desposada con José; pero, antes de empezar a estar juntos, se encontró encinta por obra del Espíritu Santo. Su marido José, que era justo, pero no quería infamarla, resolvió repudiarla en privado. Así lo tenía planeado, cuando el ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños y le dijo: «José, hijo de David, no temas tomar contigo a María tu mujer, porque lo engendrado en ella es del Espíritu Santo. The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
