Hermanos, la Escritura, previendo que Dios justificaría a los gentiles por la fe, anunció con antelación a Abrahán esta buena nueva: ‘En ti serán bendecidas todas las naciones’. Así pues, los que creen son bendecidos con Abrahán el creyente. Porque todos los que viven de las obras de la ley incurren en maldición. Dice así la Escritura: ‘Maldito quien no practique fielmente todos los preceptos escritos en el libro de la Ley’. Y que la ley no justifica a nadie ante Dios es cosa evidente, pues dice la Escritura: ‘El justo vivirá por la fe’. Además, la ley no puede proceder de la fe, pues dice: ‘Quien practique sus preceptos, vivirá por ellos’. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “in you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are men of faith are blessed with Abraham who had faith. For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them.” Now it is evident that no man is justified before God by the law; for “the righteous shall live by faith”; but the law does not rest on faith, for “He who does them shall live by them.” [RSV]

Dijo el Señor esta parábola: «El Reino de Dios es semejante a un grano de mostaza que tomó un hombre y lo sembró en su huerto; creció hasta hacerse árbol y las aves del cielo anidaron en sus ramas.» Dijo también: «¿A qué compararé el Reino de Dios? Es semejante a la levadura que tomó una mujer y la mezcló con tres medidas de harina, hasta que fermentó todo.» Mientras caminaba hacia Jerusalén, iba atravesando ciudades y pueblos enseñando. Uno le preguntó: «Señor, ¿son pocos los que se salvan?» Él les respondió: «Luchen por entrar por la puerta estrecha, porque les digo que muchos pretenderán entrar y no podrán. Cuando el dueño de la casa se levante y cierre la puerta, se pondrán los que están afuera a llamar a la puerta, diciendo: ‘¡Señor, ábrenos!’ Pero les responderá: ‘No sé de dónde son.’ Entonces empezarán a decir: ‘Hemos comido y bebido contigo, y has enseñado en nuestras plazas’. Pero les volverá a decir: ‘No sé de dónde son. ¡Apártense todos de mí, malhechores!’ Allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes, cuando vean a Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob y a todos los profetas en el Reino de Dios, mientras a ustedes les echan fuera. Y vendrán de oriente y occidente, del norte y del sur, y se pondrán a la mesa en el Reino de Dios.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said this parable, “The kingdom of God is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.” And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.” He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. And some one said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter by the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the householder has risen up and shut the door, you will begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us.’ He will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity!’ There you will weep and gnash your teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves thrust out. And men will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God.” [RSV]

Hermanos, traigan a la memoria los primeros días en que, después de ser iluminados, tuvieron que soportar un duro y doloroso combate, unas veces expuestos públicamente a injurias y ultrajes; otras, haciéndose solidarios de los que así eran tratados. Pues compartieron los sufrimientos de los encarcelados; y se dejaron despojar con alegría de sus bienes, conscientes de que poseían una riqueza mejor y más duradera. No pierdan ahora su confianza, que lleva consigo una gran recompensa. Tienen necesidad de paciencia para cumplir la voluntad de Dios y conseguir así lo prometido. Pues todavía un poco, muy poco tiempo, y el que ha de venir vendrá sin tardanza. Mi justo vivirá por la fe; mas, si es cobarde, mi alma no se complacerá en él. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one in heaven. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that you may do the will of God and receive what is promised. “For yet a little while, and the coming one shall come and shall not tarry; but my righteous one shall live by faith.” [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos llegaron a Cafarnaún y, una vez en casa, les preguntó: «¿De qué discutían por el camino?» Ellos callaron, pues por el camino habían discutido entre sí quién era el mayor. Entonces se sentó, llamó a los Doce y les dijo: «Si uno quiere ser el primero, que sea el último de todos y el servidor de todos.» Y tomando un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos, lo estrechó entre sus brazos y les dijo: «El que acoja a un niño como éste en mi nombre, a mí me acoge; y el que me acoja a mí, no me acoge a mí, sino a Aquel que me ha enviado.» Juan le dijo: «Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu nombre, pero, como no viene con nosotros, hemos tratado de impedírselo.» Pero Jesús dijo: «No se lo impidan, pues no hay nadie que obre un milagro invocando mi nombre y que luego sea capaz de hablar mal de mí. Pues el que no está contra nosotros, está por nosotros. Todo aquel que les dé de beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que son de Cristo, les aseguro que no perderá su recompensa.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus and his disciples came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” But they were silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” And he took a child, and put him in the midst of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” John said to him, “Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is for us. For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward.” [RSV]

Por sus santas intercesiones, oh Dios, ten misericordia de nosotros. Amén.
