Hermanos, nosotros debemos dar gracias en todo tiempo a Dios por ustedes, amados del Señor, porque Dios los ha escogido desde el principio para la salvación mediante la acción santificadora del Espíritu y la fe en la verdad. Para esto los ha llamado por medio de nuestro Evangelio, para que consigan la gloria de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo. Así pues, hermanos, manténganse firmes y conserven las tradiciones que han aprendido de nosotros, de viva voz o por carta. Que el mismo Señor nuestro Jesús Cristo y Dios, nuestro Padre, que nos ha amado y que nos ha dado gratuitamente una consolación eterna y una esperanza dichosa, consuele sus corazones y los afiance en toda obra y palabra buena. Finalmente, hermanos, oren por nosotros para que la palabra del Señor siga propagándose y adquiriendo gloria, como entre ustedes, y para que nos veamos libres de los hombres perversos y malignos; porque la fe no es de todos. Fiel es el Señor; él los afianzará y los guardará del Maligno. En cuanto a ustedes tenemos plena confianza en el Señor de que cumplen y cumplirán cuanto les mandamos. Que el Señor guíe sus corazones hacia el amor de Dios y la tenacidad de Cristo. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed on and triumph, as it did among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things which we command. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. [RSV]
Ἀδελφοί, ἡμεῖς ὀφείλομεν εὐχαριστεῖν τῷ Θεῷ πάντοτε περὶ ὑμῶν, ἀδελφοὶ ἠγαπημένοι ὑπὸ Κυρίου, ὅτι εἵλετο ὑμᾶς ὁ Θεὸς ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς εἰς σωτηρίαν ἐν ἁγιασμῷ Πνεύματος καὶ πίστει ἀληθείας, εἰς ὃ ἐκάλεσεν ὑμᾶς διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου ἡμῶν εἰς περιποίησιν δόξης τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. Ἄρα οὖν, ἀδελφοί, στήκετε, καὶ κρατεῖτε τὰς παραδόσεις ἃς ἐδιδάχθητε εἴτε διὰ λόγου εἴτε δι᾽ ἐπιστολῆς ἡμῶν. Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς καὶ ὁ Θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ ἡμῶν, ὁ ἀγαπήσας ἡμᾶς καὶ δοὺς παράκλησιν αἰωνίαν καὶ ἐλπίδα ἀγαθὴν ἐν χάριτι, παρακαλέσαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας καὶ στηρίξαι ὑμᾶς ἐν παντὶ λόγῳ καὶ ἔργῳ ἀγαθῷ. Τὸ λοιπόν, προσεύχεσθε, ἀδελφοί, περὶ ἡμῶν, ἵνα ὁ λόγος τοῦ Κυρίου τρέχῃ καὶ δοξάζηται, καθὼς καὶ πρὸς ὑμᾶς, καὶ ἵνα ῥυσθῶμεν ἀπὸ τῶν ἀτόπων καὶ πονηρῶν ἀνθρώπων· οὐ γὰρ πάντων ἡ πίστις. πιστὸς δέ ἐστιν ὁ Κύριος, ὃς στηρίξει ὑμᾶς καὶ φυλάξει ἀπὸ τοῦ πονηροῦ. Πεποίθαμεν δὲ ἐν Κυρίῳ ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς ὅτι ἃ παραγγέλλομεν ὑμῖν καὶ ποιεῖτε καὶ ποιήσετε. Ὁ δὲ Κύριος κατευθύναι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας εἰς τὴν ἀγάπην τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ εἰς τὴν ὑπομονὴν τοῦ Χριστοῦ.

En aquel tiempo, tomando consigo a los Doce, Jesús les dijo: «Ya ven que subimos a Jerusalén, donde se cumplirá todo lo que los profetas escribieron sobre el Hijo del hombre: lo entregarán a los paganos y será objeto de burlas, insultado y escupido; y después de azotarle lo matarán. Y al tercer día resucitará.» Ellos no comprendieron nada de esto; no captaban el sentido de estas palabras ni entendían lo que decía. [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus, taking the twelve, said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of man by the prophets will be accomplished. For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon; they will scourge him and kill him, and on the third day he will rise.” But they understood none of these things; this saying was hid from them, and they did not grasp what was said. Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, παραλαβὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς δώδεκα εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα καὶ τελειωθήσεται πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα διὰ τῶν προφητῶν τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. παραδοθήσεται γὰρ τοῖς ἔθνεσι καὶ ἐμπαιχθήσεται καὶ ὑβρισθήσεται καὶ ἐμπτυσθήσεται, καὶ μαστιγώσαντες ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἀναστήσεται. καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐδὲν τούτων συνῆκαν, καὶ ἦν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο κεκρυμμένον ἀπ᾿ αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον τὰ λεγόμενα.
