Pablo, prisionero de Cristo Jesús, y Timoteo, el hermano, a nuestro querido amigo y colaborador Filemón, a la hermana Apfia, a nuestro compañero de armas, Arquipo, y a la iglesia que se reúne en tu casa. Gracia y paz a ustedes de parte de Dios, nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesús Cristo. Doy gracias sin cesar a mi Dios, recordándote en mis oraciones, pues tengo noticia de tu caridad y de tu fe para con el Señor Jesús, para bien de todos los santos. Y pido a Dios que tu participación en la fe se haga eficiente mediante el conocimiento perfecto de todo el bien que hay en nosotros en orden a Cristo. Pues me alegraron mucho y me sirvieron de consuelo las noticias sobre tu caridad, por el alivio que los corazones de los santos han recibido de ti, hermano. Por lo cual, aunque en nombre de Cristo tengo suficiente libertad para mandarte lo que conviene, prefiero más bien rogarte en nombre de la caridad. Yo, este Pablo ya anciano, y además ahora preso de Cristo Jesús, te ruego en favor de mi hijo, de Onésimo, a quien engendré entre cadenas. Si en otro tiempo te fue inútil, ahora es muy útil para ti y para mí. Te lo devuelvo, y trátalo como a mí mismo. Me habría gustado retenerle junto a mí, para que me sirviera en tu lugar, en esta prisión que padezco por el Evangelio. Pero no he querido hacer nada sin consultarte, para que esta buena acción tuya no fuera forzada, sino voluntaria. Tal vez fue alejado de ti por algún tiempo, precisamente para que lo recuperaras para siempre, y no como esclavo, sino como algo mejor que un esclavo: como un hermano querido, que, siéndolo mucho para mí, ¡cuánto más lo será para ti, no sólo como amo, sino también en el Señor! Por tanto, si me sientes realmente unido a ti, acógele como a mí mismo. Y si en algo te perjudicó o algo te debe, ponlo a mi cuenta. Yo mismo, Pablo, lo firmo con mi puño. Yo te lo pagaré; por no recordarte deudas que tienes conmigo, pues tú mismo te me debes. Sí, hermano, hazme este favor en el Señor. ¡Alivia mi corazón en nombre de Cristo! Te escribo confiado en tu docilidad, seguro de que harás más de lo que te pido. Al mismo tiempo, prepárame hospedaje, pues espero que por sus oraciones se les conceda el favor de mi presencia. Te saludan Epafras, mi compañero de cautiverio en Cristo Jesús, Marcos, Aristarco, Demas y Lucas, mis colaboradores. La gracia del Señor Jesús Cristo esté con su espíritu. Amén. [BJ-SAOGM]
Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved fellow worker, and beloved Apphia and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the church in your house: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and all the saints, and I pray that the sharing of your faith may promote the knowledge of all the good that is ours in Christ Jesus. For we have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you. Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you — I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus — I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment. (Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.) I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart; receive him. I would have been glad to keep him with me, in order that he might serve me on your behalf during my imprisonment for the gospel; but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own free will. Perhaps this is why he was parted from you for a while, that you might have him back for ever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. So if you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me. If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account. I, Paul, write this with my own hand, I will repay it — to say nothing of your owing me even your own self. Yes, brother, I want some benefit from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord. Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say. At the same time, prepare a guest room for me, for I am hoping through your prayers to be granted to you. Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends greetings to you, and so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. En aquel tiempo, mientras Jesús iba caminando, uno le dijo: «Te seguiré adondequiera que vayas.» Jesús replicó: «Las zorras tienen guaridas, y las aves del cielo nidos; pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene donde reclinar la cabeza.» Dijo a otro: «Sígueme.» Pero él respondió: «Déjame ir primero a enterrar a mi padre.» Replicó Jesús: «Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos. Tú vete a anunciar el Reino de Dios.» Hubo otro que le dijo: «Te seguiré, Señor; pero déjame antes despedirme de los de mi casa.» Replicó Jesús: «Nadie que pone la mano en el arado y mira hacia atrás es apto para el Reino de Dios.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, as Jesus was going along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” But Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” [RSV]
