Hermanos, al saber que permanecen firmes en el Señor, ¿cómo podremos agradecer a Dios todo el gozo que, por causa de ustedes, experimentamos ante Él? Noche y día le pedimos insistentemente poder verlos personalmente y completar lo que falta a su fe. Que Dios mismo, nuestro Padre y nuestro Señor Jesús orienten nuestros pasos hacia ustedes. En cuanto a ustedes, que el Señor los haga progresar y sobreabundar en el amor mutuo —y en el amor para con todos—, como es nuestro amor para con ustedes. De ese modo, se consolidarán sus corazones con santidad irreprochable ante Dios, nuestro Padre, de cara a la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, con todos sus santos. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, if you stand fast in the Lord, what thanksgiving can we render to God for you, for all the joy which we feel for your sake before our God, praying earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith? Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you; and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all men, as we do to you, so that he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. En aquel tiempo, Jesús caminaba acompañado de mucha gente. Entonces se volvió y les dijo: «Si alguno viene donde mí y no odia a su padre, a su madre, a su mujer, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos, a sus hermanas e incluso a sí mismo, no puede ser discípulo mío. El que no cargue con su cruz y venga en pos de mí, no puede ser discípulo mío.¿Quién de ustedes, si quiere edificar una torre, no se sienta primero a calcular los gastos y ver si tiene para acabarla? De lo contrario, si resulta que ha puesto los cimientos de la obra y no ha podido terminarla, todos los que lo vean se pondrán a burlarse de él, y dirán: ‘Éste comenzó a edificar y no pudo terminar.’ O ¿qué rey, antes de salir contra otro rey, no se sienta a deliberar si con diez mil hombres puede salir al paso del que viene contra él con veinte mil? Y si no, cuando el otro está todavía lejos, envía una embajada para negociar condiciones de paz. Pues, de igual manera, cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncie a todos sus bienes no puede ser discípulo mío.Buena es la sal; mas si también la sal se desvirtúa, ¿con qué se la sazonará? No es útil ni para la tierra ni para el estercolero; la tiran fuera. El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, great multitudes accompanied Jesus; and he turned and said to them, “If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build, and was not able to finish.’ Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace. So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Salt is good; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” [RSV]
