Hermanos, a nosotros, los apóstoles, Dios nos ha asignado el último lugar, como condenados a muerte, puestos a modo de espectáculo para el mundo, los ángeles y los seres humanos. Nosotros pasamos por locos a causa de Cristo; ustedes, por sabios en Cristo. Nosotros somos débiles; ustedes, fuertes. Ustedes, estimados; nosotros, despreciados. Hasta ahora venimos pasando hambre, sed y desnudez. Somos abofeteados, y andamos de aquí para allá. Nos fatigamos trabajando manualmente. Si nos insultan, bendecimos; si nos persiguen, lo soportamos; si nos difaman, respondemos con bondad. Hasta ahora venimos siendo la basura del mundo y el desecho de todos. No les escribo esto para avergonzarlos, sino más bien para amonestarlos como a hijos míos queridos. Pues, aunque hayan tenido diez mil pedagogos en Cristo, no tienen muchos padres. He sido yo quien, por el Evangelio, los engendré en Cristo Jesús. Les ruego, pues, que sean mis imitadores. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the off-scouring of all things. I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me. [RSV]
Ἀδελφοί, ὁ Θεὸς ἡμᾶς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ἐσχάτους ἀπέδειξεν, ὡς ἐπιθανατίους, ὅτι θέατρον ἐγενήθημεν τῷ κόσμῳ, καὶ ἀγγέλοις καὶ ἀνθρώποις. ἡμεῖς μωροὶ διὰ Χριστόν, ὑμεῖς δὲ φρόνιμοι ἐν Χριστῷ· ἡμεῖς ἀσθενεῖς, ὑμεῖς δὲ ἰσχυροί· ὑμεῖς ἔνδοξοι, ἡμεῖς δὲ ἄτιμοι. ἄχρι τῆς ἄρτι ὥρας καὶ πεινῶμεν καὶ διψῶμεν καὶ γυμνητεύομεν καὶ κολαφιζόμεθα καὶ ἀστατοῦμεν καὶ κοπιῶμεν ἐργαζόμενοι ταῖς ἰδίαις χερσί· λοιδορούμενοι εὐλογοῦμεν, διωκόμενοι ἀνεχόμεθα, βλασφημούμενοι παρακαλοῦμεν· ὡς περικαθάρματα τοῦ κόσμου ἐγενήθημεν, πάντων περίψημα ἕως ἄρτι. Οὐκ ἐντρέπων ὑμᾶς γράφω ταῦτα, ἀλλ᾿ ὡς τέκνα μου ἀγαπητὰ νουθετῶ. ἐὰν γὰρ μυρίους παιδαγωγοὺς ἔχητε ἐν Χριστῷ, ἀλλ᾿ οὐ πολλοὺς πατέρας· ἐν γὰρ Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου ἐγὼ ὑμᾶς ἐγέννησα. παρακαλῶ οὖν ὑμᾶς, μιμηταί μου γίνεσθε.

En aquel tiempo, estaba Jesús enseñando cuando uno de los presentes le dijo: «Maestro, di a mi hermano que reparta la herencia conmigo.» Él le respondió: «¡Hombre! ¿Quién me ha constituido juez o repartidor entre ustedes?» Y añadió: «Guárdense muy bien de toda codicia, porque las riquezas no garantizan la vida de un hombre, por muchas que tenga.» Dijo a sus discípulos: «Por eso les digo: No anden preocupados por su vida, pensando qué comerán, ni por su cuerpo, discurriendo con qué se vestirán, pues la vida vale más que el alimento y el cuerpo más que el vestido. Fíjense en los cuervos: ni siembran, ni cosechan; no tienen bodega ni granero, pero Dios los alimenta. ¡Cuánto más valen ustedes que las aves! Por lo demás, ¿quién de ustedes puede, por más que se preocupe, añadir un codo a la medida de su vida? Entonces, si no son capaces ni de lo más pequeño, ¿por qué preocuparse de lo demás? Fíjense en los lirios: ni hilan ni tejen. Pero yo les digo que ni Salomón, en todo su esplendor, se vistió como uno de ellos. Pues si Dios viste así a la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana se echa al horno, ¡cuánto más a ustedes, hombres de poca fe! Así, pues, no anden buscando qué comer ni qué beber, ni se inquieten por eso, pues por todas esas cosas se afanan los paganos del mundo. El Padre de ustedes ya sabe que tienen necesidad de eso. Busquen más bien su Reino, y esas cosas se les darán por añadidura.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, while Jesus was teaching, one of the multitude said to him, “Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?” And he said to them, “Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a cubit to his stature? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass which is alive in the field today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O men of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be of anxious mind. For all the nations of the world seek these things; and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek God''s kingdom, and these things shall be yours as well.” [RSV]
Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, διδάσκοντος τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, εἶπέ τις αὐτῷ ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου· διδάσκαλε, εἰπὲ τῷ ἀδελφῷ μου μερίσασθαι τὴν κληρονομίαν μετ᾿ ἐμοῦ. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ἄνθρωπε, τίς με κατέστησε δικαστὴν ἢ μεριστὴν ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς; εἶπε δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· ὁρᾶτε καὶ φυλάσσεσθε ἀπὸ πάσης πλεονεξίας· ὅτι οὐκ ἐν τῷ περισσεύειν τινὶ ἡ ζωὴ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν ἐκ τῶν ὑπαρχόντων αὐτοῦ. διὰ τοῦτο λέγω ὑμῖν, μὴ μεριμνᾶτε τῇ ψυχῇ ὑμῶν τί φάγητε, μηδὲ τῷ σώματι ὑμῶν τί ἐνδύσησθε. οὐχὶ ἡ ψυχὴ πλεῖόν ἐστι τῆς τροφῆς καὶ τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ἐνδύματος; κατανοήσατε τοὺς κόρακας, ὅτι οὐ σπείρουσιν οὐδὲ θερίζουσιν, οἷς οὐκ ἔστι ταμεῖον οὐδὲ ἀποθήκη, καὶ ὁ Θεὸς τρέφει αὐτούς· πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὑμεῖς διαφέρετε τῶν πετεινῶν; τίς δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν μεριμνῶν δύναται προσθεῖναι ἐπὶ τὴν ἡλικίαν αὐτοῦ πῆχυν ἕνα; εἰ οὖν οὔτε ἐλάχιστον δύνασθε, τί περὶ τῶν λοιπῶν μεριμνᾶτε; κατανοήσατε τὰ κρίνα πῶς αὐξάνει· οὐ κοπιᾷ οὐδὲ νήθει· λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν, οὐδὲ Σολομὼν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ δόξῃ αὐτοῦ περιεβάλετο ὡς ἓν τούτων. εἰ δὲ τὸν χόρτον τοῦ ἀγροῦ, σήμερον ὄντα καὶ αὔριον εἰς κλίβανον βαλλόμενον, ὁ Θεὸς οὕτως ἀμφιέννυσι, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὑμᾶς, ὀλιγόπιστοι; καὶ ὑμεῖς μὴ ζητεῖτε τί φάγητε καὶ τί πίητε, καὶ μὴ μετεωρίζεσθε· ταῦτα γὰρ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη τοῦ κόσμου ἐπιζητεῖ· ὑμῶν δὲ ὁ πατὴρ οἶδεν ὅτι χρῄζετε τούτων· πλὴν ζητεῖτε τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ταῦτα πάντα προστεθήσεται ὑμῖν.

Τῇ Ιʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μηνὸς μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων Ἀποστόλων ἐκ τῶν Ἑβδομήκοντα Ὀλυμπᾶ, Ῥοδίωνος, Σωσιπάτρου, Τερτίου, Ἐράστου καὶ Κουάρτου.
Por sus santas intercesiones, oh Dios, ten piedad de nosotros y sálvanos. Amén.
By their holy intercessions, O God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
