Hermanos, vivan como hijos de la luz, pues el fruto de la luz consiste en todo tipo de bondad, justicia y verdad. Examinen qué es lo que agrada al Señor, y no participen en las obras infructuosas de las tinieblas; antes bien, denúncienlas. Sólo el mencionar las cosas que ellos hacen ocultamente da vergüenza; pero, al ser denunciadas, salen a la luz. Pues todo lo que queda manifiesto es luz. Por eso se dice: Despierta tú que duermes, y levántate de entre los muertos, y te iluminará Cristo. Así pues, miren atentamente cómo viven; no sean necios, sino sabios. Aprovechen bien la ocasión, porque corren malos tiempos. Por tanto, no sean insensatos; traten de comprender cuál es la voluntad del Señor. No se embriaguen con vino, que es causa de libertinaje; llénense más bien del Espíritu. Reciten entre ustedes salmos, himnos y cánticos inspirados; canten y salmodien en su corazón al Señor.
Brethren, walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret; but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.” Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. En aquél tiempo: llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era jefe de la sinagoga, y, cayendo a los pies de Jesús, le suplicaba que entrara en su casa, porque su hija única, de unos doce años, se estaba muriendo. Mientras iba, la gente lo oprimía. Una mujer que padecía flujo de sangre desde hacía doce años, y que no había podido ser curada por nadie, se acercó por detrás y tocó la orla de su manto; y, al punto, se le detuvo la hemorragia. Jesús preguntó: «¿Quién me ha tocado?» Como todos lo negaban, dijo Pedro: «Maestro, las gentes te aprietan y te oprimen.» Pero Jesús contestó: «Alguien me ha tocado, porque he sentido que una fuerza ha salido de mí.» Viéndose descubierta, la mujer se acercó temblorosa y, postrándose ante él, contó delante de toda la gente por qué razón le había tocado, y cómo al punto había sido curada. Él le dijo: «Hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Vete en paz.» Estaba todavía hablando, cuando uno de casa del jefe de la sinagoga llegó diciendo: «Tu hija está muerta. No molestes ya al Maestro.» Jesús, que oyó el comentario, le dijo: «No temas; basta con que tengas fe y se salvará.» Al llegar a la casa, no permitió entrar con él más que a Pedro, Juan y Santiago, y al padre y a la madre de la niña. At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus’ feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!” But Jesus said, “Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me.” And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.” But Jesus on hearing this answered him, “Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well.” And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios.
