Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Hermanos, a la manera de Isaac, ustedes son hijos de la promesa. Pero, así como entonces el nacido según la naturaleza perseguía al nacido según el Espíritu, así ocurre también ahora. ¿Y qué dice la Escritura? ‘Despide a la esclava y a su hijo, que no heredará el hijo de la esclava junto con el hijo’ de la libre. Así que, hermanos, no somos hijos de la esclava, sino de la libre. Para ser libres nos ha liberado Cristo. Manténganse, pues, firmes y no se dejen oprimir nuevamente bajo el yugo de la esclavitud. Soy yo, Pablo, quien se lo dice: Si se circuncidan, Cristo no les aprovechará nada. Les declaro de nuevo que todo hombre que se circuncida queda obligado a practicar toda la ley. Todos cuantos buscan la justicia en la ley han roto con Cristo; han caído en desgracia. Nosotros, en cambio, esperamos la justicia anhelada por medio del Espíritu y de la fe. Porque si pertenecemos a Cristo Jesús, ni la circuncisión ni la incircuncisión tienen eficacia, sino la fe, que actúa por la caridad. Con lo bien que corrían, ¿quién les puso obstáculos para que no siguieran a la verdad? Semejante persuasión no proviene, desde luego, de Aquel que los llama. Es verdad que un poco de levadura hace fermentar toda la masa, pero el Señor me inspira la confianza en que no cambiarán de actitud. De todos modos, el que los perturba, quienquiera que sea, cargará con su sentencia. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, we, like Isaac, are children of promise. But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now. But what does the scripture say? “Cast out the slave and her son; for the son of the slave shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.” So, brethren, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman. For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Now I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is bound to keep the whole law. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love. You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view than mine; and he who is troubling you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, el tetrarca Herodes, a quien había reprendido por el asunto de Herodías, la mujer de su hermano, y por todas las malas acciones que había cometido, añadió a todas ellas la de encerrar a Juan en la cárcel. Toda la gente se estaba bautizando. Jesús, ya bautizado, se hallaba en oración, cuando se abrió el cielo, bajó sobre él el Espíritu Santo en forma corporal, como una paloma, y llegó una voz del cielo: «Tú eres mi hijo; en ti me complazco.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by John for Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, added this to them all, that he shut up John in prison. Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form, as a dove, and a voice came from heaven. “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
