Hermanos, ahora me alegro por los padecimientos que soporto por ustedes, y completo lo que falta a las tribulaciones de Cristo en mi carne, en favor de su cuerpo, que es la Iglesia, de la cual he llegado a ser ministro, conforme a la misión que Dios me concedió en orden a ustedes para dar cumplimiento a la palabra de Dios, al misterio escondido desde siglos y generaciones, y manifestado ahora a sus santos, a quienes Dios quiso dar a conocer cuál es la riqueza de la gloria de este misterio entre los gentiles, que es Cristo en ustedes, la esperanza de la gloria, al cual nosotros anunciamos, amonestando e instruyendo a todos los hombres con toda sabiduría, a fin de presentarlos a todos perfectos en Cristo. Por esto precisamente me afano, luchando con la fuerza de Cristo que actúa poderosamente en mí. Quiero que sepan cuán dura lucha estoy sosteniendo por ustedes. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the divine office which was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now made manifest to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature in Christ Jesus. For this I toil, striving with all the energy which he mightily inspires within me. For I want you to know how greatly I strive for you. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor a sus discípulos: «Miren que yo los envío como ovejas en medio de lobos. Sean, pues, prudentes como las serpientes, y sencillos como las palomas. Guárdense de los hombres, porque los entregarán a los tribunales y los azotarán en sus sinagogas; serán conducidos ante gobernadores y reyes por mi causa, para que den testimonio ante ellos y ante los paganos. Mas cuando los entreguen, no se preocupen de cómo o qué van a hablar. Lo que tengan que hablar se les comunicará en aquel momento. Porque no serán ustedes los que hablen; será el Espíritu de su Padre el que hablará en ustedes. Entregará a la muerte hermano a hermano y padre a hijo; se rebelarán hijos contra padres y los matarán. Serán odiados por todos a causa de mi nombre, pero el que persevere hasta el fin se salvará.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to his disciples, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.” [RSV]
