Hermanos, la primera alianza tenía sus ritos litúrgicos y su santuario terreno. Se instaló una primera parte de la Tienda, donde se hallaban el candelabro y la mesa con los panes presentados, que se llama Santo. Detrás de la segunda cortina se hallaba la Tienda llamada Santo de los Santos, que contenía el altar de oro para el incienso, el arca de la alianza —completamente cubierta de oro— y, en ella, la urna de oro con el maná, la vara florecida de Aarón y las tablas de la alianza. Encima del arca, los querubines de la gloria cubrían con su sombra el propiciatorio. Mas no es éste el momento de hablar de todo ello en detalle. Instaladas así estas cosas, los sacerdotes entran siempre en la primera parte de la Tienda para desempeñar las funciones del culto. Pero en la segunda parte entra sólo una vez al año el sumo sacerdote, y no sin sangre de animales, que debe ofrecer por sí mismo y por los pecados del pueblo. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, the first tent had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary. For a tent was prepared, the first one, in which were the lamp stand and the table and the bread of the Presence; it is called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain stood a tent called the Holy of Holies, having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, which contained a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. These preparations having thus been made, the priests go continually into the outer tent, performing their ritual duties; but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood which he offers for himself and for the sins committed unintentionally by the people. En aquel tiempo, se le acercó a Jesús un joven y le dijo: «Maestro, ¿qué he de hacer de bueno para conseguir vida eterna?» Él le dijo: «¿Por qué me preguntas acerca de lo bueno? Uno solo es el Bueno. Mas si quieres entrar en la vida, guarda los mandamientos.» «¿Cuáles?» —le dice él. Y Jesús dijo: «No matarás, no cometerás adulterio, no robarás, no levantarás falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre, y amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.» Le dice el joven: «Todo eso lo he guardado; ¿qué más me falta?» Jesús le dijo: «Si quieres ser perfecto, anda, vende lo que tienes y dáselo a los pobres, y tendrás un tesoro en los cielos; luego sígueme.» Al oír estas palabras, el joven se marchó entristecido, porque tenía muchos bienes. Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: «Yo les aseguro que un rico difícilmente entrará en el Reino de los Cielos. Les repito, es más fácil que un camello entre por el ojo de una aguja, que el que un rico entre en el Reino de los Cielos.» Al oír esto, los discípulos, llenos de asombro, decían: «Entonces, ¿quién se podrá salvar?» Jesús, mirándolos fijamente, dijo: «Para los hombres eso es imposible, mas para Dios todo es posible.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, a young man came up to Jesus, kneeling and saying, “Good Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you call me good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which?” And Jesus said, “You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The young man said to him, “All these I have observed from my youth; what do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” [RSV]

El 31 de agosto conmemoramos la colocación del precioso cinturón de la Santísima Theotokos en la iglesia dedicada a ella en Chalkoprateia, Constantinopla, habiendo sido trasladado de la diócesis de Zela en Capadocia por el emperador Justiniano. También conmemoramos el milagro que ocurrió cuando el precioso cinturón fue colocado sobre la emperatriz Zoe, esposa del emperador León.
On August 31 we remember the installation of the Precious Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos in the church dedicated to her in Chalkoprateia in Constantinople, to where it was transferred from the Diocese of Zela in Cappadocia by the Emperor Justinian. We also remember the miracle that occurred when the Precious Belt was placed on the Empress Zoe, the wife of Emperor Leo.
