Hermanos, ésta es la confianza que tenemos ante Dios, gracias a Cristo. Pues nosotros no podemos atribuirnos cosa alguna, como si fuera nuestra, ya que nuestra capacidad viene de Dios. Él nos capacitó para ser ministros de una nueva alianza, no de la letra, sino del Espíritu, pues la letra mata, mas el Espíritu da vida. Pensemos que si el ministerio de la muerte, grabado con letras sobre tablas de piedra, resultó glorioso hasta el punto de no poder los israelitas mirar el rostro de Moisés a causa del resplandor que emitía —aunque pasajero—, ¡cuánto más glorioso no será el ministerio del Espíritu! Pues si el ministerio de la condenación fue glorioso, con mucha más razón lo será el ministerio de la salvación. Pues, en este aspecto, lo que era glorioso ya no lo es, en comparación con esta gloria supereminente. Y si aquello, que era pasajero, fue glorioso, ¡cuánto más glorioso será lo permanente! [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the dispensation of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not look at Moses’ face because of its glory, fading as this was, will not the dispensation of the Spirit be attended with greater glory? For if there was glory in the dispensation of condemnation, the dispensation of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what faded away came with glory, what is permanent must have much more glory. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor a los judíos que vinieron a Él: «¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque edifican los sepulcros de los profetas y adornan los monumentos de los justos, y dicen: ‘Si nosotros hubiéramos vivido en el tiempo de nuestros padres, no habríamos participado con ellos en el asesinato de los profetas!’ Diciendo eso atestiguan contra ustedes mismos, pues confirman que son hijos de los que mataron a los profetas. ¡Colmen también ustedes la medida de sus padres! ¡Serpientes, raza de víboras! ¿Cómo van a escapar de la condenación de la Gehenna? Por eso, pienso enviarles profetas, sabios y escribas: a unos los matarán y los crucificarán, a otros los azotarán en sus sinagogas y los perseguirán de ciudad en ciudad, para que se les pida cuentas de toda la sangre inocente derramada sobre la tierra, desde la sangre del inocente Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías, hijo de Baraquías, a quien mataron entre el Santuario y el altar. Les aseguro que todo esto recaerá sobre esta generación. ¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, la que asesina a los profetas y apedrea a los que le son enviados! ¡Cuántas veces he querido reunir a tus hijos, como una gallina reúne a sus pollos bajo las alas, y no han querido! Pues bien, se les va a dejar desierta su casa. Porque les digo que ya no me volverán a ver hasta que digan: ‘¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor!’» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to the Jews who had come to him, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ Thus you witness against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of innocent Abel to the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
