Hermanos, ¿qué harán los que se bautizan por los muertos? Si los muertos no resucitan en manera alguna, ¿por qué bautizarse por ellos? ¿Y por qué nosotros mismos hemos de ponernos en peligro a todas horas? A diario estoy expuesto a la muerte. ¡Sí, hermanos! Tan cierto es que cada día estoy en peligro de muerte como cierto es el orgullo que siento por su fe en Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro. Si por motivos humanos luché en Éfeso contra las bestias, ¿qué provecho saqué? Si los muertos no resucitan, comamos y bebamos, que mañana moriremos. No se engañen: «Las malas compañías corrompen las buenas costumbres.» Entren en razón, como conviene, y no pequen; que hay entre ustedes quienes desconocen a Dios. Para vergüenza suya lo digo. Pero es posible que alguien diga: ¿Cómo resucitan los muertos? ¿Con qué cuerpo vuelven a la vida? ¡Qué tontería! Lo que tú siembras no recobra vida, si no muere. Lo que tú siembras no es el cuerpo que va a brotar, sino un simple grano, de trigo o de cualquier otra planta. Y Dios le da el cuerpo que Él quiere: a cada semilla el suyo. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf? Why am I in peril every hour? I protest, brethren, by my pride in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” Come to your right mind, and sin no more. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. But some one will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” You foolish man! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. And what you sow is not the body which is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or some other grain. But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo: llegó Jesús al Templo y, mientras enseñaba, se le acercaron los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo, que le preguntaron: «¿Con qué autoridad haces esto? ¿Quién te ha dado tal autoridad?» Jesús les respondió: «También yo les voy a preguntar una cosa. Si me contestan a ella, yo les diré a mi vez con qué autoridad hago esto. ¿De dónde provenía el bautismo de Juan, del cielo o de los hombres?» Ellos discurrían entre sí: «Si decimos que es del cielo, nos dirá: ‘Entonces ¿por qué no le creyeron?’ Pero si decimos que es de los hombres, tenemos miedo a la gente, pues todos tienen a Juan por profeta.» Así que respondieron a Jesús: «No sabemos.» Él les replicó entonces: «Pues tampoco yo les digo con qué autoridad hago esto.» [BJ-SAOGM]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
