Mientras se lee el salmo introductorio (103/104), el sacerdote, con la cabeza descubierta, se coloca frente a la Santa Mesa o frente al icono de Cristo en la solea, y recita en silencio las oraciones del encendido de las lámparas.

While the Introductory Psalm is being read, the Priest stands in front of the holy Table and reads the so-called Lamp-lighting Prayers.

Bendice, alma mía, al Señor: ¡Dios mío, qué grande eres! Te vistes de belleza y majestad, la luz te envuelve como un manto. Extiendes los cielos como una tienda, construyes tu morada sobre las aguas; las nubes te sirven de carroza, avanzas en las olas del viento; los vientos te sirven de mensajeros; el fuego llameante, de ministro. Asentaste la tierra sobre sus cimientos, y no vacilará jamás; la cubriste con el manto del océano, y las aguas se posaron sobre las montañas; pero a tu bramido huyeron, al fragor de tu trueno se precipitaron, mientras subían los montes y bajaban los valles: cada cual al puesto asignado. Trazaste una frontera que no traspasarán, y no volverán a cubrir la tierra. De los manantiales sacas los ríos, para que fluyan entre los montes; en ellos beben las fieras de los campos, el asno salvaje apaga su sed; junto a ellos habitan las aves del cielo, y entre las frondas se oye su canto. Desde tu morada riegas los montes, y la tierra se sacia de tu acción fecunda; haces brotar hierba para los ganados, y forraje para los que sirven al hombre. Él saca pan de los campos, y vino que le alegra el corazón; y aceite que da brillo a su rostro, y alimento que le da fuerzas. Se llenan de savia los árboles del Señor, los cedros del Líbano que El plantó: allí anidan los pájaros, en su cima pone casa la cigüeña. Los riscos son para las cabras, las peñas son madriguera de erizos. Hiciste la luna con sus fases, el sol conoce su ocaso. Pones las tinieblas y viene la noche, y rondan las fieras de la selva; los cachorros rugen por la presa, reclamando a Dios su comida. Cuando brilla el sol, se retiran, y se tumban en sus guaridas; el hombre sale a sus faenas, a su labranza hasta el atardecer. Cuántas son tus obras, Señor, y todas las hiciste con sabiduría; la tierra está llena de tus criaturas. Ahí está el mar: ancho y dilatado, en él bullen, sin número, animales pequeños y grandes; lo surcan las naves, y el leviatán que modelaste para que retoce. Todos ellos aguardan a que les eches comida a su tiempo: se la echas, y la atrapan; abres tu mano, y se sacian de bienes; escondes tu rostro, y se espantan; les retiras el aliento, y expiran y vuelven a ser polvo; envías tu aliento, y los creas, y repueblas la faz de la tierra. Gloria a Dios para siempre, goce el Señor con sus obras, cuando Él mira la tierra, ella tiembla; cuando toca los montes, humean. Cantaré al Señor, tocaré para mi Dios mientras exista: que le sea agradable mi poema, y yo me alegraré con el Señor. Que se acaben los pecadores en la tierra, que los malvados no existan más. ¡Bendice, alma mía, al Señor!

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. You are He who sends springs into the valley; the waters shall pass between the mountains; they shall give drink to all the wild animals of the field; the wild asses shall quench their thirst; the birds of heaven shall dwell beside them; they shall sing from the midst of the rocks. You are He who waters the mountains from His higher places; the earth shall be satisfied with the fruit of Your works. You are He who causes grass to grow for the cattle, and the green plant for the service of man, to bring forth bread from the earth; and wine gladdens the heart of man, to brighten his face with oil; and bread strengthens man’s heart. The trees of the plain shall be full of fruit, the cedars of Lebanon, which You planted; there the sparrows shall make their nests; the house of the heron takes the lead among them. The high mountains are for the deer; the cliff is a refuge for the rabbits. He made the moon for seasons; the sun knows its setting. You established darkness, and it was night, wherein all the wild animals of the forest will prowl about; the young lions roar and snatch their prey, and seek their food from God. The sun arises, and they are gathered together; and they shall be put to bed in their dens. Man shall go out to his work and to his labor until evening. O Lord, Your works shall be magnified greatly; You made all things in wisdom; the earth was filled with Your creation. There is this great and spacious sea: the creeping things are there without number; the living things are there, both small and great; there the ships pass through; there is this dragon You formed to play therein. All things wait upon You, that You may give them food in due season. When You give it to them, they shall gather it; when You open Your hand, all things shall be filled with Your goodness. But when You turn Your face away, they shall be troubled; when You take away their breath, they shall die and return again to their dust. You shall send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Let the glory of the Lord be forever; the Lord shall be glad in His works; He looks upon the earth and makes it tremble; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing to my God as long as I exist; may my words be pleasing to Him, and I shall be glad in the Lord. May sinners cease from the earth, and the lawless, so as to be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Ὁ ἐξανατέλλων χόρτον τοῖς κτήνεσι, καὶ χλόην τῇ δουλείᾳ τῶν ἀνθρώπων. Τοῦ ἐξαγαγεῖν ἄρτον ἐκ τῆς γῆς, καὶ οἶνος εὐφραίνει καρδίαν ἀνθρώπου. Τοῦ ἱλαρῦναι πρόσωπον ἐν ἐλαίῳ, καὶ ἄρτος καρδίαν ἀνθρώπου στηρίζει. Χορτασθήσονται τὰ ξύλα τοῦ πεδίου, αἱ κέδροι τοῦ Λιβάνου, ἃς ἐφύτευσας. Ἐκεῖ στρουθία ἐννοσσεύσουσι, τοῦ ἐρωδιοῦ ἡ κατοικία ἡγεῖται αὐτῶν. Ὄρη τὰ ὑψηλὰ ταῖς ἐλάφοις, πέτρα καταφυγὴ τοῖς λαγωοῖς. Ἐποίησε σελήνην εἰς καιρούς, ὁ ἥλιος ἔγνω τὴν δύσιν αὐτοῦ. Ἔθου σκότος, καὶ ἐγένετο νύξ, ἐν αὐτῇ διελεύσονται πάντα τὰ θηρία τοῦ δρυμοῦ. Σκύμνοι ὠρυόμενοι τοῦ ἁρπάσαι, καὶ ζητῆσαι παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ βρῶσιν αὐτοῖς. Ἀνέτειλεν ὁ ἥλιος, καὶ συνήχθησαν, καὶ εἰς τὰς μάνδρας αὐτῶν κοιτασθήσονται. Ἐξελεύσεται ἄνθρωπος ἐπὶ τὸ ἔργον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν ἐργασίαν αὐτοῦ ἕως ἑσπέρας. Ὡς ἐμεγαλύνθη τὰ ἔργα σου, Κύριε, πάντα ἐν σοφίᾳ ἐποίησας, ἐπληρώθη ἡ γῆ τῆς κτίσεώς σου. Αὕτη ἡ θάλασσα ἡ μεγάλη καὶ εὐρύχωρος, ἐκεῖ ἑρπετὰ ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός, ζῷα μικρὰ μετὰ μεγάλων. Ἐκεῖ πλοῖα διαπορεύονται, δράκων οὗτος, ὃν ἔπλασας ἐμπαίζειν αὐτῇ. Πάντα πρὸς σὲ προσδοκῶσι, δοῦναι τὴν τροφὴν αὐτῶν εἰς εὔκαιρον, δόντος σου αὐτοῖς συλλέξουσιν. Ἀνοίξαντός σου τὴν χεῖρα, τὰ σύμπαντα πλησθήσονται χρηστότητος, ἀποστρέψαντος δέ σου τὸ πρόσωπον, ταραχθήσονται. Ἀντανελεῖς τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκλείψουσι, καὶ εἰς τὸν χοῦν αὐτῶν ἐπιστρέψουσιν. Ἐξαποστελεῖς τὸ πνεῦμα σου, καὶ κτισθήσονται, καὶ ἀνακαινιεῖς τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς. Ἤτω ἡ δόξα Κυρίου εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας, εὐφρανθήσεται Κύριος ἐπὶ τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ. Ὁ ἐπιβλέπων ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ ποιῶν αὐτὴν τρέμειν, ὁ ἁπτόμενος τῶν ὀρέων, καὶ καπνίζονται. ᾌσω τῷ Κυρίῳ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ μου, ψαλῶ τῷ Θεῷ μου ἕως ὑπάρχω. Ἡδυνθείη αὐτῷ ἡ διαλογή μου, ἐγὼ δὲ εὐφρανθήσομαι ἐπὶ τῷ Κυρίῳ. Ἐκλείποιεν ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἄνομοι, ὥστε μὴ ὑπάρχειν αὐτούς. Εὐλόγει, ἡ ψυχή μου, τὸν Κύριον.

When You were transfigured on a high mountain, O Savior, having with You those paramounts of Your Disciples, You shone forth with glory. Your intention was to show that those who attain the height of virtue will also be counted worthy of divine glory. Moses and Elias conversed with Christ, to show that He is the Lord of the living and the dead, and that the One who spoke through the Law and the Prophets of old was God. It was to Him that the voice of the Father bore witness from the bright cloud saying, “Listen to Him.” He is the One who despoiled Hades through the Cross, and who granted the dead eternal life. That Mount, which once was dark and smoky, is now revered and holy, for Your feet stood on it, O Lord. The mystery, which was hidden before all ages, was revealed in latter days by Your terrific Transfiguration, to Peter, John and James. They could not bear the shining ray of Your face nor the radiance of Your garments, so they fell on their faces, weighed down to the ground. In a state of ecstasy, they marveled as they watched Moses and Elias speaking with You about what was going to happen to You. Then the voice of the Father bore witness to You and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him, who also grants the world the great mercy.” [SD]

El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Sube hacia mí, al monte; quédate allí y te daré las tablas de piedra, con la ley y los mandamientos que he escrito para que los enseñes.» Se levantó Moisés, con Josué, su ayudante; y subieron al monte de Dios. Dijo a los ancianos: «Espérennos aquí hasta que volvamos. Aarón y Jur quedan con ustedes; el que tenga algún problema que recurra a ellos.» Después Moisés subió al monte. La nube cubría el monte. La gloria del Señor descansaba sobre el monte Sinaí y la nube lo cubrió durante seis días. Al séptimo día, el Señor llamó a Moisés de en medio de la nube. La gloria del Señor aparecía a los israelitas como fuego devorador sobre la cumbre del monte. Moisés penetró en la nube y subió al monte. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone and the law and commandments I wrote, that you may teach them.” So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and they went up to the mountain of God. But he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Indeed, Aaron and Hur are with you. If any man has a difficulty, let him go to them.” Then Moses and Joshua went up the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. Now the glory of God descended on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. Then on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. The sight of the Lord’s glory was like a burning fire on the top of the mountain before the children of Israel. So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up the mountain; and he was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. [SAAS]

El Señor hablaba con Moisés cara a cara, como habla un hombre con su amigo. Luego Moisés volvía al campamento, pero su ayudante, el joven Josué, hijo de Nun, no se apartaba del interior de la Tienda. Moisés dijo al Señor: «Tú me has dicho: ‘Conduce a este pueblo’, pero no me has indicado a quién enviarás conmigo; a pesar de que me has dicho: ‘Te conozco por tu nombre’, y también: ‘Has obtenido mi favor.’ Ahora, pues, si realmente he obtenido tu favor, enséñame tu camino y sabré que he obtenido tu favor; mira que esta gente es tu pueblo.» El Señor respondió: «Yo mismo iré contigo y te daré descanso.» Moisés contestó: «Si no vienes tú mismo, no nos hagas partir de aquí. Pues ¿en qué podrá conocerse que tu pueblo y yo hemos obtenido tu favor, sino en el hecho de que tú vas con nosotros? Así, tu pueblo y yo nos distinguiremos de todos los pueblos que hay sobre la tierra.» El Señor respondió a Moisés: «Haré también esto que me pides, pues has obtenido mi favor y yo te conozco por tu nombre.» Entonces Moisés dijo al Señor: «Déjame ver tu gloria.» Él le contestó: «Yo haré pasar ante tu vista toda mi bondad y pronunciaré delante de ti el nombre del Señor; pues concedo mi favor a quien quiero y tengo misericordia con quien quiero.» Y añadió: «Pero mi rostro no podrás verlo, porque nadie puede verme y seguir con vida.» El Señor añadió: «Aquí hay un sitio junto a mí; ponte sobre la roca. Al pasar mi gloria, te meteré en la hendidura de la roca y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que yo haya pasado. Luego apartaré mi mano, para que veas mis espaldas; pero mi rostro no lo verás.» Moisés se levantó temprano y subió al monte Sinaí como le había mandado el Señor, llevando en su mano las dos tablas de piedra. El Señor descendió en una nube y se detuvo allí junto a él. Moisés invocó el nombre del Señor. El Señor pasó por delante de él y exclamó: «Señor, Señor, Dios misericordioso y clemente, tardo a la cólera y rico en amor y fidelidad.» Al instante, Moisés se inclinó a tierra y se postró. Thus the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Then he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle. Then Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you above all, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, reveal Yourself to me, that I may see You clearly and find grace in Your sight, and know this great nation is Your people.” So He said, “I Myself will go before you and give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If You Yourself do not go up with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So both I and Your people shall be glorified beyond all the nations on the earth.” The Lord then said to Moses, “I will also do this thing you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you above all.” Moses replied, “Reveal Yourself to me.” Then God said, “I will pass before you in My glory, and I will proclaim My name, the Lord, before you. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man can see My face and live.” Moreover, the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me: you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” Then Moses rose early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai as the Lord commanded him. Now the Lord descended in the cloud; and He stood with him there, and he called upon the name of the Lord. Then the Lord passed before his face and proclaimed, “The Lord God, compassionate, merciful, longsuffering, abounding in mercy and true.” So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the ground and worshiped. Εἰ οὖν εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, ἐμφάνισόν μοι σεαυτόν, ἵνα γνωστῶς ἴδω σε, ὅπως ἂν ὦ εὑρηκὼς χάριν ἐνώπιόν σου, καί, ἵνα γνῶ, ὅτι λαός σου τὸ ἔθνος τὸ μέγα τοῦτο. Por aquellos días, Elías llegó a Berseba de Judá y dejó allí a su criado. Anduvo por el desierto una jornada de camino, hasta llegar y sentarse bajo una retama. Se recostó y quedó dormido bajo una retama, pero un ángel lo tocó y le dijo: «Levántate y come.» Miró y a su cabecera había una torta cocida sobre piedras calientes y un jarro de agua. Comió y bebió y se volvió a recostar. El ángel del Señor volvió segunda vez, lo tocó y le dijo: «Levántate y come, pues el camino ante ti es muy largo.» Se levantó, comió y bebió, y con la fuerza de aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta el monte de Dios, el Horeb. Allí se introdujo en la cueva, y pasó en ella la noche. Le llegó la palabra del Señor, diciendo: «Sal y permanece de pie en el monte ante el Señor.» Entonces el Señor pasó y hubo un huracán tan violento que hendía las montañas y quebraba las rocas ante el Señor; pero en el huracán no estabal Señor. Después del huracán, un terremoto; pero en el terremoto no estabal Señor. Después del terremoto, fuego, pero en el fuego no estabal Señor. Después del fuego, el susurro de una brisa suave, y en el susurro estaba el Señor. Al oírlo Elías, enfundó su rostro con el manto, salió y se mantuvo en pie a la entrada de la cueva. In those days, Elijah came to Beersheba of Judah, where he left his servant. But Elijah himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree. Then he lay down and slept under a tree. Unexpectedly, someone touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” Then Elijah looked, and there by his head was a cake made of wheat and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. Again the angel of the Lord came back a second time, touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is a great many days for you.” So he arose, ate and drank; and he went with the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, as far as Mount Horeb. There he went into a cave and rested. Behold, the word of the Lord came to him and said to him, “Go out tomorrow and stand on the mountain before the Lord; and behold, the Lord will pass by, and before the Lord, a great and powerful wind will be rending the mountains and shattering the rocks; but the Lord will not be in the wind. After the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord will not be in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there will be a fire, but the Lord will not be in the fire. After the fire, there will be a sound of a gentle breeze, and the Lord will be there.” So when Elijah heard this, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Then the Lord said to him, “Go and return on your way to the desert of Damascus. And you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah as prophet in your place.” [SAAS]
