Pedro, apóstol de Jesús Cristo, a los elegidos que viven como extranjeros en la Dispersión: en el Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia, a quienes Dios Padre había elegido previamente, con la acción santificadora del Espíritu, para obedecer a Jesús Cristo y ser rociados con su sangre. A ustedes gracia y paz abundantes. Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, quien, por su gran misericordia y mediante la Resurrección de Jesús Cristo de entre los muertos, nos ha reengendrado a una esperanza viva, a una herencia incorruptible, inmaculada e inmarcesible, reservada en los cielos para ustedes. El poder de Dios, que se activa por medio de la fe, los protege para la salvación, dispuesta ya para ser revelada en el último momento. Por este motivo, rebosan sin duda de alegría, pero es preciso que todavía por algún tiempo tengan que soportar diversas pruebas. De ese modo, cuando Jesús Cristo se manifieste, la calidad probada de su fe, más preciosa que el oro perecedero que es probado por el fuego, se convertirá en motivo de alabanza, de gloria y de honor. Aman a Jesús Cristo, aun sin haberlo visto; creen en él, aunque de momento no lo vean. Y lo hacen rebosantes de alegría indescriptible y gloriosa, alcanzando así la meta de su fe, la salvación de las almas. Sobre esta salvación investigaron e indagaron los profetas, que anunciaron la gracia que les estaba destinada. Procuraron descubrir a qué tiempo y a qué circunstancias se refería el Espíritu de Cristo, que estaba en ellos, cuando les predecía los sufrimientos destinados a Cristo y las glorias que les seguirían. Les fue revelado que no administraban en beneficio propio, sino en favor de ustedes, este mensaje que ahora les anuncian quienes les predican el Evangelio mediante el Espíritu Santo enviado desde el cielo, un mensaje que los ángeles ansían contemplar. Por lo tanto, cíñanse los lomos de su espíritu y sean sobrios; pongan toda su esperanza en la gracia que se les procurará mediante la Revelación de Jesús Cristo. Como hijos obedientes, no se amolden a las apetencias de antes, del tiempo en que eran ignorantes. Al contrario, que su conducta sea santa en todo momento, como santo es el que los ha llamado. Pues así está escrito: “Serán santos, porque santo soy yo”. Si llaman Padre a quien, sin acepción de personas, juzga a cada cual según su conducta, condúzcanse con temor durante el tiempo de su destierro. Y sepan que no han sido rescatados de la conducta necia heredada de sus padres con algo caduco, con oro o plata, sino con la sangre preciosa de Cristo, cordero sin tacha y sin mancilla. Él fue predestinado antes de la creación del mundo y manifestado en los últimos tiempos a causa de ustedes; y por medio de él creen en Dios, que le ha resucitado de entre los muertos y le ha dado la gloria, de modo que su fe y su esperanza estén en Dios. Han purificado sus almas, obedeciendo a la verdad, para amarse los unos a los otros sinceramente como hermanos. Ámense profundamente unos a otros, con corazón puro, pues han sido reengendrados a partir de una semilla no corruptible, sino incorruptible: la palabra de Dios viva y permanente. Pues toda carne es como hierba, y todo su esplendor como flor de hierba; se seca la hierba y cae la flor, pero la palabra del Señor permanece eternamente. Y ésta es la palabra: la Buena Nueva anunciada a ustedes. Rechacen, por tanto, malicias y engaños, hipocresías, envidias y toda clase de maledicencias. Como niños recién nacidos, deseen la leche espiritual pura, a fin de que, gracias a ella, crezcan con vistas a la salvación, si es que han gustado que el Señor es bueno. Acérquense al Señor, la piedra viva desechada por los hombres, pero elegida y preciosa para Dios; y así, como piedras vivas que son, formen parte de un edificio espiritual, de un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales agradables a Dios por medio de Jesús Cristo. Pues dice la Escritura: Voy a colocar en Sión una piedra elegida, angular y preciosa, y el que crea en ella no será confundido. Para ustedes, los creyentes, eso es motivo de orgullo; pero para los incrédulos, la piedra que los constructores desecharon se ha convertido en piedra angular, en piedra de tropiezo y roca de escándalo. Tropiezan en ella porque no creen en la palabra; para esto han sido destinados. Pero ustedes son linaje elegido, sacerdocio real, nación santa, pueblo adquirido, destinado a anunciar las alabanzas de Aquel que los ha llamado de las tinieblas a su admirable luz; ustedes, que si en un tiempo no fueron pueblo, ahora son Pueblo de Dios: ésos de los que antes no se tuvo compasión, pero que ahora son compadecidos. Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the exiles of the Dispersion in Pontos, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and to an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Rejoice in this, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Without having seen him you love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy. As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls. The prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired about this salvation; they inquired what person or time was indicated by the Spirit of Christ within them when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glory. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things which have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. Therefore gird up your minds, be sober, set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile. You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake. Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Having purified your souls through the Spirit by your obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brethren, love one another earnestly from a pure heart. You have been born anew, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord abides for ever.” That word is the good news which was preached to you. So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander. Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation; for you have tasted that the Lord is good. Come to him, to that living stone. rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.” To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, “The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,” and “a stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall”; for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were no people but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy. [RSV]

Διὸ ἀναζωσάμενοι τὰς ὀσφύας τῆς διανοίας ὑμῶν, νήφοντες, τελείως ἐλπίσατε ἐπὶ τὴν φερομένην ὑμῖν χάριν ἐν ἀποκαλύψει Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ὡς τέκνα ὑπακοῆς μὴ συσχηματιζόμενοι ταῖς πρότερον ἐν τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν ἐπιθυμίαις, ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὸν καλέσαντα ὑμᾶς ἅγιον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἅγιοι ἐν πάσῃ ἀναστροφῇ γενήθητε, διότι γέγραπται· ἅγιοι γίνεσθε, ὅτι ἐγὼ ἅγιός εἰμι. καὶ εἰ πατέρα ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸν ἀπροσωπολήπτως κρίνοντα κατὰ τὸ ἑκάστου ἔργον, ἐν φόβῳ τὸν τῆς παροικίας ὑμῶν χρόνον ἀναστράφητε, εἰδότες ὅτι οὐ φθαρτοῖς, ἀργυρίῳ ἢ χρυσίῳ, ἐλυτρώθητε ἐκ τῆς ματαίας ὑμῶν ἀναστροφῆς πατροπαραδότου, ἀλλὰ τιμίῳ αἵματι ὡς ἀμνοῦ ἀμώμου καὶ ἀσπίλου Χριστοῦ, προεγνωσμένου μὲν πρὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου, φανερωθέντος δὲ ἐπ᾽ ἐσχάτων τῶν χρόνων δι᾽ ὑμᾶς τοὺς δι᾽ αὐτοῦ πιστεύοντας εἰς Θεὸν τὸν ἐγείραντα αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν καὶ δόξαν αὐτῷ δόντα, ὥστε τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐλπίδα εἶναι εἰς Θεόν. Τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν ἡγνικότες ἐν τῇ ὑπακοῇ τῆς ἀληθείας διὰ Πνεύματος εἰς φιλαδελφίαν ἀνυπόκριτον, ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας ἀλλήλους ἀγαπήσατε ἐκτενῶς, ἀναγεγεννημένοι οὐκ ἐκ σπορᾶς φθαρτῆς, ἀλλὰ ἀφθάρτου, διὰ λόγου ζῶντος Θεοῦ καὶ μένοντος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα· διότι πᾶσα σὰρξ ὡς χόρτος, καὶ πᾶσα δόξα ἀνθρώπου ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου· ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος, καὶ τὸ ἄνθος αὐτοῦ ἐξέπεσε· τὸ δὲ ῤῆμα Κυρίου μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. τοῦτο δέ ἐστι τὸ ῥῆμα τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν εἰς ὑμᾶς. Dijo el Señor a sus discípulos: «Yo les aseguro que todo lo que aten en la tierra quedará atado en el cielo, y todo lo que desaten en la tierra quedará desatado en el cielo. Les aseguro también que si dos de ustedes se ponen de acuerdo en la tierra para pedir algo, sea lo que fuere, lo conseguirán de mi Padre que está en los cielos. Porque donde están dos o tres reunidos en mi nombre, allí estoy yo, en medio de ellos.» Pedro se acercó entonces y le preguntó: «Señor, ¿cuántas veces tengo que perdonar las ofensas que me haga mi hermano? ¿Hasta siete veces?» Le respondió Jesús: «No te digo hasta siete veces, sino hasta setenta veces siete.» Cuando acabó Jesús estos discursos, partió de Galilea y fue a la región de Judea, al otro lado del Jordán. Le siguió mucha gente, y los curó allí. Entonces le fueron presentados unos niños para que les impusiera las manos y orase; pero los discípulos les reñían. Mas Jesús les dijo: «Dejen que los niños vengan a mí; y no se lo impidan, porque de los que son como éstos es el Reino de los Cielos.» Y, después de imponerles las manos, se fue de allí. [BJ-SAOGM]

The Lord said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.” Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; and large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people; but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. [RSV]

Τότε προσελθὼν αὐτῷ ὁ Πέτρος εἶπε· Κύριε, ποσάκις ἁμαρτήσει εἰς ἐμὲ ὁ ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἀφήσω αὐτῷ; ἕως ἑπτάκις; λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· οὐ λέγω σοι ἕως ἑπτάκις, ἀλλ᾿ ἕως ἑβδομηκοντάκις ἑπτά. Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς λόγους τούτους μετῆρεν ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὰ ὅρια τῆς Ἰουδαίας πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου. καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ.
