Lectura de la primera carta de san Pablo a los Corintios.

1 Cor. 13:11 – 14; 14:1 – 5
Hermanos, cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, razonaba como niño; pero, al hacerme hombre, dejé todas las cosas de niño. Ahora vemos como en un espejo, de forma borrosa; pero entonces veremos cara a cara. Ahora conozco de un modo parcial, pero entonces conoceré tal como soy conocido. Ahora subsisten la fe, la esperanza y la caridad, estas tres realidades. Pero la mayor de todas ellas es la caridad. Busquen la caridad, pero aspiren también a los dones espirituales, especialmente a la profecía. El que habla en lenguas no habla a la gente, sino a Dios. Y es que nadie le entiende, pues dice en espíritu cosas misteriosas. Por el contrario, el que tiene don de profecía habla a los demás para su crecimiento en la fe; les exhorta y los conforta. El que habla en lenguas se consolida a sí mismo; pero el profeta contribuye al crecimiento de toda la asamblea. Me gustaría que todos hablasen en lenguas, pero prefiero que profeticen. El que profetiza supera al que habla en lenguas, a no ser que éste también interprete, de modo que la asamblea vaya creciendo en la fe. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, when I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Make love your aim, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one hears, but he utters mysteries in the spirit. On the other hand, he who prophesies speaks to men for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless some one interprets, so that the church may be edified. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Pedro los que cobraban las didracmas y le preguntaron: «¿No paga su Maestro las didracmas?» Respondió él: «Sí.» Cuando llegó a casa, se anticipó Jesús a decirle: «A ver qué te parece, Simón. ¿De quién cobran tasas o tributo los reyes de la tierra, de sus hijos o de los extraños?» Al contestar él: «De los extraños», Jesús le dijo: «Por tanto, libres están los hijos. Sin embargo, para que no les sirvamos de escándalo, vete al mar y echa el anzuelo. Coge el primer pez que salga, ábrele la boca y encontrarás un estáter. Tómalo y dáselo por mí y por ti.» En aquel momento se acercaron a Jesús los discípulos y le preguntaron: «¿Quién es el mayor en el Reino de los Cielos?» Él llamó a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos y dijo: «Les aseguro que si no cambian y se hacen como los niños, no entrarán en el Reino de los Cielos. Así pues, el mayor en el Reino de los Cielos será el que se humille como este niño.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, the collectors of the half-shekel tax went up to Peter and said, “Does not your teacher pay the tax?” He said, “Yes.” And when he came home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their sons or from others?” And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel; take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.” At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” [RSV]
