Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Hermanos, como cooperadores suyos que somos, los exhortamos a que no reciban en vano la gracia de Dios. Dice él en la Escritura: “En el tiempo favorable te escuché, y en el día de la salvación te ayudé”. ¡Pues éste es el tiempo favorable; éste es el día de la salvación!. A nadie damos ocasión alguna de tropiezo, para que nadie se mofe del ministerio; antes bien, nos manifestamos en todo como ministros de Dios, soportando con frecuencia tribulaciones, necesidades y angustias; azotes, cárceles y algaradas; fatigas, desvelos y ayunos. Y lo hacemos con nobleza, ciencia, paciencia y bondad, con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo y apoyándonos en una caridad sincera; ofreciendo un mensaje veraz y contando con el poder de Dios; usando las armas de la justicia a diestra y siniestra. Nuestra vida discurre entre el honor y el agravio, entre la calumnia y la buena fama. Nos tienen por impostores, aunque somos veraces; por desconocidos, aunque nos conocen bien; por moribundos, aunque estamos vivos; por castigados, aunque no condenados a muerte; por gente triste, aunque estamos siempre alegres; por pobres, aunque enriquecemos a muchos. Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, “At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation.” Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. En aquel tiempo, un fariseo rogó a Jesús que comiera con él. Entró en la casa del fariseo y se puso a la mesa. Había en el pueblo una mujer pecadora pública. Al enterarse de que estaba comiendo en casa del fariseo, llevó un frasco de alabastro de perfume y, poniéndose detrás, a los pies de él, comenzó a llorar. Con sus lágrimas le humedecía los pies y con los cabellos de su cabeza se los secaba; besaba sus pies y los ungía con el perfume. El fariseo que le había invitado, al ver la escena, se decía para sí: «Si éste fuera profeta, sabría quién y qué clase de mujer es la que le está tocando: una pecadora.» Jesús le dijo: «Simón, tengo algo que decirte.» Él respondió: «Di, maestro.» «Un acreedor tenía dos deudores: uno debía quinientos denarios y el otro cincuenta. Como no tenían para pagarle, perdonó a los dos. ¿Quién de ellos le amará más?» Respondió Simón: «Supongo que aquel a quien perdonó más.» Jesús le dijo: «Has juzgado bien.» Después, volviéndose hacia la mujer, dijo a Simón: «¿Ves a esta mujer? Entré en tu casa y no me diste agua para los pies. Ella, en cambio, ha humedecido mis pies con lágrimas y los ha secado con sus cabellos. No me diste el beso, pero ella, desde que entró, no ha dejado de besarme los pies. No ungiste mi cabeza con aceite, pero ella ha ungido mis pies con perfume. Por eso te digo que quedan perdonados sus numerosos pecados, porque ha mostrado mucho amor. A quien poco se le perdona, poco amor muestra.» Y le dijo a ella: «Tus pecados quedan perdonados.» Los comensales empezaron a decirse para sí: «¿Quién es éste, que hasta perdona los pecados?» Pero él dijo a la mujer: «Tu fe te ha salvado. At that time, one of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house, and took his place at table. And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “What is it, Teacher?” “A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.” And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” [RSV]
