Hermanos, de qué gloriarme en Cristo Jesús ante Dios. Pues no me atreveré a hablar de cosa alguna que Cristo no haya realizado por medio de mí para conseguir la obediencia de los gentiles, de palabra y de obra, en virtud de signos y prodigios, en virtud del Espíritu de Dios, tanto que desde Jerusalén y su comarca hasta Iliria he dado cumplimiento al Evangelio de Cristo; teniendo así, como punto de honra, no anunciar el Evangelio sino allí donde el nombre de Cristo no era aún conocido, para no construir sobre cimientos ya puestos por otros, antes bien, como dice la Escritura: Los que ningún anuncio recibieron de él, lo verán, y los que nada oyeron, comprenderán. Esa era la razón por la cual siempre me veía impedido de llegar hasta ustedes. Mas ahora, no teniendo ya campo de acción en estas regiones, y deseando vivamente desde hace muchos años ir donde ustedes, cuando me dirija a España, espero verlos al pasar, y ser encaminado por ustedes hacia allá, después de haber disfrutado un poco de su compañía. Mas, por ahora, voy a Jerusalén para el servicio de los santos, pues Macedonia y Acaya tuvieron a bien hacer una colecta en favor de los pobres de entre los santos de Jerusalén. Les pareció bien, porque era su obligación; pues si los gentiles han compartido sus bienes espirituales, ellos a su vez deben servirlos con sus bienes temporales. Así que, una vez terminado este asunto, y entregado oficialmente el fruto de la colecta, partiré para España, pasando por ustedes. Y bien sé que, al ir a ustedes, lo haré con la plenitud de las bendiciones de Cristo. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, in Christ Jesus I have reason to be proud of my work for God. For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has wrought through me to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed, by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Holy Spirit, so that from Jerusalem and as far round as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ, thus making it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on another man’s foundation, but as it is written, “They shall see who have never been told of him, and they shall understand who have never heard of him.” This is the reason why I have so often been hindered from coming to you. But now, since I no longer have any room for work in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to come to you, I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be sped on my journey there by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a little. At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints. For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem; they were pleased to do it, and indeed - they are in debt to them, for if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. When therefore I have completed this, and have delivered to them what has been raised, I shall go on by way of you to Spain; and I know that when I come to you I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. Διὸ καὶ ἐνεκοπτόμην τὰ πολλὰ τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς· νυνὶ δὲ μηκέτι τόπον ἔχων ἐν τοῖς κλίμασι τούτοις, ἐπιποθίαν δὲ ἔχων τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ πολλῶν ἐτῶν, ὡς ἐὰν πορεύωμαι εἰς τὴν Σπανίαν, ἐλεύσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς· ἐλπίζω γὰρ διαπορευόμενος θεάσασθαι ὑμᾶς καὶ ὑφ᾿ ὑμῶν προπεμφθῆναι ἐκεῖ, ἐὰν ὑμῶν πρῶτον ἀπὸ μέρους ἐμπλησθῶ. νυνὶ δὲ πορεύομαι εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ διακονῶν τοῖς ἁγίοις. εὐδόκησαν γὰρ Μακεδονία καὶ Ἀχαΐα κοινωνίαν τινὰ ποιήσασθαι εἰς τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ. εὐδόκησαν γὰρ καὶ ὀφειλέται αὐτῶν εἰσιν· εἰ γὰρ τοῖς πνευματικοῖς αὐτῶν ἐκοινώνησαν τὰ ἔθνη, ὀφείλουσι καὶ ἐν τοῖς σαρκικοῖς λειτουργῆσαι αὐτοῖς. τοῦτο οὖν ἐπιτελέσας, καὶ σφραγισάμενος αὐτοῖς τὸν καρπὸν τοῦτον, ἀπελεύσομαι δι᾿ ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν Σπανίαν. οἶδα δὲ ὅτι ἐρχόμενος πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν πληρώματι εὐλογίας τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐλεύσομαι.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús todavía estaba hablando a la muchedumbre, cuando su madre y sus hermanos se presentaron afuera y trataban de hablar con él. Alguien le dijo: «¡Oye! ahí afuera están tu madre y tus hermanos que desean hablarte.» Pero él respondió al que se lo decía: «¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?» Y, extendiendo su mano hacia sus discípulos, dijo: «Estos son mi madre y mis hermanos. Pues todo el que cumpla la voluntad de mi Padre de los cielos, ése es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre.» Aquel día, salió Jesús de casa y se sentó a orillas del mar. Y se reunió tanta gente junto a él, que tuvo que subir a sentarse en una barca, y toda la gente quedaba en la orilla. Y les habló muchas cosas en parábolas. [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, while Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. Some one told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak to you.” But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother.” That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he entered a boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables. [RSV]
Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ λαλοῦντος τοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῖς ὄχλοις ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ εἱστήκεισαν ἔξω, ζητοῦντες λαλῆσαι αὐτῷ. εἶπε δέ τις αὐτῷ· ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου ἑστήκασιν ἔξω ζητοῦντές σε ἰδεῖν. ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπε τῷ λέγοντι αὐτῷ· τίς ἐστιν ἡ μήτηρ μου καὶ τίνες εἰσὶν οἱ ἀδελφοί μου; καὶ ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἔφη· ἰδοὺ ἡ μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου· ὅστις γὰρ ἂν ποιήσῃ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πατρός μου τοῦ ἐν οὐρανοῖς, αὐτός μου ἀδελφὸς καὶ ἀδελφὴ καὶ μήτηρ ἐστίν. Ἐν δὲ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐξελθὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τῆς οἰκίας ἐκάθητο παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν· καὶ συνήχθησαν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλοι πολλοί, ὥστε αὐτὸν εἰς πλοῖον ἐμβάντα καθῆσθαι, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ἐπὶ τὸν αἰγιαλὸν εἱστήκει. καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς πολλὰ ἐν παραβολαῖς.
