Hermanos, acójanse mutuamente como los acogió Cristo para gloria de Dios. Pues afirmo que Cristo se puso al servicio de los circuncisos para manifestar que Dios es veraz, es decir, para dar cumplimiento a las promesas hechas a los patriarcas, y para que los gentiles alabasen a Dios por su misericordia, como dice la Escritura: ‘Por eso te bendeciré entre los gentiles y ensalzaré tu nombre’. Y en otro lugar: ‘Gentiles, regocíjense juntamente con su pueblo’; y también: ‘Alaben, naciones todas, al Señor y cántenle himnos todos los pueblos’. Y a su vez Isaías dice: ‘Aparecerá el retoño de Jesé, el que se levanta para imperar sobre las naciones. En él pondrán las naciones su esperanza’. Que el Dios de la esperanza los colme del gozo y la paz que da la fe, hasta rebosar de esperanza por la fuerza del Espíritu Santo. Por mi parte, estoy persuadido, hermanos míos, de que también ustedes están llenos de buenas disposiciones, henchidos de todo conocimiento y capacitados también para amonestarse unos a otros. Sin embargo, en algunos pasajes de esta carta les he escrito con cierto atrevimiento, como para recordarles lo que sin duda no han olvidado. Pero lo he hecho en virtud de la misión que Dios me ha confiado: ser para los gentiles ministro de Cristo Jesús, ejerciendo el sagrado oficio del Evangelio de Dios, para hacer de los gentiles una ofrenda agradable, santificada por el Espíritu Santo. Brethren, welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name”; and again it is said, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people”; and again, “Praise the Lord, all Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him”; and further Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse shall come, he who rises to rule the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles hope.” May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. En aquel tiempo, le interpelaron algunos escribas y fariseos: «Maestro, queremos ver un signo hecho por ti.» Mas Jesús les respondió: «¡Generación malvada y adúltera! Pide un signo, pero no se le dará otro signo que el del profeta Jonás. Porque así como Jonás estuvo en el vientre del cetáceo tres días y tres noches, así también el Hijo del hombre estará en el seno de la tierra tres días y tres noches. La gente de Nínive se levantará en el Juicio con esta generación y la condenarán, porque al menos ellos se convirtieron por la predicación de Jonás; y aquí hay algo más que Jonás. La reina del Mediodía se levantará en el Juicio con esta generación y la condenará, porque ella vino de los confines de la tierra a oír la sabiduría de Salomón; y aquí hay algo más que Salomón. Cuando el espíritu inmundo sale del hombre, anda vagando por lugares áridos en busca de reposo, pero no lo encuentra. Entonces piensa: ‘Me volveré a mi casa, de donde salí.’ Pero resulta que, al llegar, la encuentra desocupada, barrida y en orden. Entonces va y toma consigo otros siete espíritus peores que él; entran y se instalan allí, y el final de aquel hombre viene a ser peor que el principio. Así le sucederá también a esta generación malvada.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, scribes and Pharisees came to Jesus saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places seeking rest, but he finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and brings with him seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. So shall it be also with this evil generation.” [RSV]

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
