Hermanos, habiendo sido liberados del pecado, ustedes se han hecho esclavos de la justicia. —Hablo en términos humanos, en atención a su flaqueza natural—. Pues, del mismo modo que ofrecieron sus miembros como esclavos a la impureza y a la maldad, para obrar el mal, ofrézcanlos ahora a la justicia, para una vida de santidad. Verdad es que, cuando eran esclavos del pecado, eran libres en lo referente a la justicia. ¿Pero qué frutos cosecharon entonces de todo aquello que ahora les avergüenza, y cuyo fin es la muerte? Pero ahora, libres ya del pecado y esclavos de Dios, dan frutos de santidad, cuyo fin es la vida eterna. El salario del pecado es la muerte; pero el don de Dios es la vida eterna, unidos a Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro. [BJ-SAOGM]

Brethren, having been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you once yielded your members to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now yield your members to righteousness for sanctification. When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But then what return did you get from the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. [RSV]

En aquel tiempo, al entrar Jesús en Cafarnaún, se le acercó un centurión y le rogó diciendo: «Señor, mi criado yace en casa paralítico con terribles sufrimientos.» Jesús le contestó: «Yo iré a curarle.» Replicó el centurión: «Señor, no soy digno de que entres bajo mi techo; basta que lo digas de palabra y mi criado quedará sano. Porque también yo, que soy un subalterno, tengo soldados a mis órdenes, y digo a éste ‘Vete’, y va; y a otro ‘Ven, y viene; y a mi siervo ‘Haz esto’, y lo hace.» Al oír esto, Jesús quedó admirado y dijo a los que le seguían: «Les aseguro que en Israel no he encontrado en nadie una fe tan grande. Y les digo que vendrán muchos de oriente y occidente y se pondrán a la mesa con Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob en el reino de los Cielos, mientras que los hijos del Reino serán echados a las tinieblas de fuera. Allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes.» Luego dijo Jesús al centurión: «Ve y que te suceda como has creído.» Y en aquella hora sanó el criado. [BJ-SAOGM]

At that time, as Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, beseeching him and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress.” And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion answered him, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.” And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; be it done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
