Hermanos, no está en el exterior el ser judío, ni es circuncisión la externa, la de la carne. El verdadero judío lo es en el interior, y la verdadera circuncisión, la del corazón, según el espíritu y no según la letra. Ese es quien recibe de Dios la gloria y no de los hombres. ¿Cuál es, pues, la ventaja del judío? ¿Cuál la utilidad de la circuncisión? Grande, de todas maneras. Ante todo, a ellos les fueron confiados los oráculos de Dios. Pues ¿qué? Si algunos de ellos fueron infieles, ¿frustrará, por ventura, su infidelidad la fidelidad de Dios? ¡De ningún modo! Dios tiene que ser veraz y todo hombre mentiroso, como dice la Escritura: Para que seas justificado en tus palabras y triunfes al ser juzgado. Pero si nuestra injusticia realza la justicia de Dios, ¿qué diremos? ¿Será acaso injusto Dios al descargar su ira? (Hablo en términos humanos.) ¡De ningún modo! Si no, ¿cómo juzgará Dios al mundo? Pero si con mi mentira sale ganando la verdad de Dios para gloria suya ¿por qué razón soy también yo todavía juzgado como pecador? Y ¿por qué no hacer el mal para que venga el bien, como algunos calumniosamente nos acusan que decimos? Esos tales tienen merecida su condenación. Entonces ¿qué? ¿Llevamos ventaja? ¡No del todo! Pues ya demostramos que tanto judíos como griegos están todos bajo el pecado, como dice la Escritura: No hay quien sea justo, ni siquiera uno. No hay un sensato, no hay quien busque a Dios. Todos se desviaron, a una se corrompieron; no hay quien obre el bien, no hay siquiera uno. Sepulcro abierto es su garganta, con su lengua urden engaños. Veneno de áspides bajo sus labios; maldición y amargura rebosa su boca. Ligeros sus pies para derramar sangre; ruina y miseria son sus caminos. El camino de la paz no lo conocieron, no hay temor de Dios ante sus ojos. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, he is not a real Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision something external and physical. He is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, spiritual and not literal. His praise is not from men but from God. Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews are entrusted with the oracles of God. What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? By no means! Let God be true though every man be false, as it is written, “That you may be justified in you words, and prevail when you art judged.” But if our wickedness serves to show the justice of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.) By no means! For then how could God judge the world? But if through my falsehood God’s truthfulness abounds to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? And why not do evil that good may come? — as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just. What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all; for we have already charged that all men, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin, as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands, no one seeks for God. All have turned aside, together they have gone wrong; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave, they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood, in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they do not know.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” [RSV]

Τί οὖν τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ Ἰουδαίου, ἢ τίς ἡ ὠφέλεια τῆς περιτομῆς; πολὺ κατὰ πάντα τρόπον. πρῶτον μὲν γὰρ ὅτι ἐπιστεύθησαν τὰ λόγια τοῦ Θεοῦ. τί γὰρ εἰ ἠπίστησάν τινες; μὴ ἡ ἀπιστία αὐτῶν τὴν πίστιν τοῦ Θεοῦ καταργήσει; μὴ γένοιτο· γινέσθω δὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἀληθής, πᾶς δὲ ἄνθρωπος ψεύστης, καθὼς γέγραπται· ὅπως ἂν δικαιωθῇς ἐν τοῖς λόγοις σου καὶ νικήσῃς ἐν τῷ κρίνεσθαί σε. εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀδικία ἡμῶν Θεοῦ δικαιοσύνην συνίστησι, τί ἐροῦμεν; μὴ ἄδικος ὁ Θεὸς ὁ ἐπιφέρων τὴν ὀργήν; κατὰ ἄνθρωπον λέγω. μὴ γένοιτο· ἐπεὶ πῶς κρινεῖ ὁ Θεὸς τὸν κόσμον; εἰ γὰρ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν τῷ ἐμῷ ψεύσματι ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, τί ἔτι κἀγὼ ὡς ἁμαρτωλὸς κρίνομαι, καὶ μὴ καθὼς βλασφημούμεθα καὶ καθὼς φασί τινες ἡμᾶς λέγειν ὅτι ποιήσωμεν τὰ κακὰ ἵνα ἔλθῃ τὰ ἀγαθά; ὧν τὸ κρῖμα ἔνδικόν ἐστι. Dijo el Señor: «No anden preocupados diciendo: ¿Qué vamos a comer?, ¿qué vamos a beber?, ¿con qué vamos a vestirnos? Que por todas esas cosas se afanan los gentiles; pues ya sabe su Padre celestial que tienen necesidad de todo eso. Busquen primero el Reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas esas cosas se les darán por añadidura. Así que no se preocupen del mañana: el mañana se preocupará de sí mismo. Cada día tiene bastante con su propia preocupación. ¿O hay acaso alguno entre ustedes que al hijo que le pide pan le dé una piedra; o si le pide un pescado, le dé una culebra? Si, pues, ustedes, siendo malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, ¡cuánto más su Padre que está en los cielos dará cosas buenas a los que se las pidan!» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said, “Do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” [RSV]

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Theotokos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
