Por aquellos días, cuando los discípulos estaban reunidos para la fracción del pan, Pablo, que debía marchar al día siguiente, disertaba ante ellos y alargó la charla hasta la media noche. En la estancia superior, donde estábamos reunidos, había abundantes lámparas. Un joven, llamado Eutico, estaba sentado en el borde de la ventana. A medida que Pablo alargaba su discurso, le iba dominando un profundo sueño. Vencido finalmente por el sueño, se cayó del piso tercero abajo. Lo levantaron ya muerto. Bajó Pablo, se echó sobre él y, tomándolo en sus brazos, dijo: «No se inquieten. Todavía sigue con vida.» Subió luego, partió el pan y comió; y prolongó su conversación hasta el amanecer. Después se marchó. Trajeron entonces al muchacho vivo y se consolaron no poco. [BJ-SAOGM]
In those days, when the apostles were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and he prolonged his speech until midnight. There were many lights in the upper chamber where we were gathered. And a young man named Eutychus was sitting in the window. He sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer; and being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. But Paul went down and bent over him, and embracing him said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.” And when Paul had gone up and had broken bread and eaten, he conversed with them a long while, until daybreak, and so departed. And they took the lad away alive, and were not a little comforted. [RSV]
Ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις, συνηγμένων τῶν μαθητῶν κλάσαι ἄρτον, ὁ Παῦλος διελέγετο αὐτοῖς, μέλλων ἐξιέναι τῇ ἐπαύριον, παρέτεινέ τε τὸν λόγον μέχρι μεσονυκτίου. ἦσαν δὲ λαμπάδες ἱκαναὶ ἐν τῷ ὑπερῴῳ οὗ ἦμεν συνηγμένοι. καθήμενος δέ τις νεανίας ὀνόματι Εὔτυχος ἐπὶ τῆς θυρίδος, καταφερόμενος ὕπνῳ βαθεῖ διαλεγομένου τοῦ Παύλου ἐπὶ πλεῖον, κατενεχθεὶς ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕπνου ἔπεσεν ἀπὸ τοῦ τριστέγου κάτω καὶ ἤρθη νεκρός. καταβὰς δὲ ὁ Παῦλος ἐπέπεσεν αὐτῷ καὶ συμπεριλαβὼν εἶπε· μὴ θορυβεῖσθε· ἡ γὰρ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ ἐστιν. ἀναβὰς δὲ καὶ κλάσας ἄρτον καὶ γευσάμενος, ἐφ᾿ ἱκανόν τε ὁμιλήσας ἄχρις αὐγῆς, οὕτως ἐξῆλθεν. ἤγαγον δὲ τὸν παῖδα ζῶντα, καὶ παρεκλήθησαν οὐ μετρίως.

Dijo el Señor a sus discípulos: «Las palabras que les digo no las digo por mi cuenta; el Padre que permanece en mí es el que realiza las obras. Créanme: yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre está en mí. Al menos, créanlo por las obras. En verdad, en verdad les digo que el que crea en mí hará también las obras que yo hago, y hará mayores aún, porque yo voy al Padre. Y yo les concederé todo lo que pidan en mi nombre, para que el Padre sea glorificado en el Hijo. Si me piden algo en mi nombre, yo se lo concederé. Si me aman, guarden mis mandamientos; y yo pediré al Padre y les dará otro Paráclito, para que esté siempre con ustedes: el Espíritu de la verdad, a quien el mundo no puede recibir, porque no lo ve ni lo conoce. Pero ustedes lo conocen, porque mora con ustedes y estará en ustedes. No los dejaré huérfanos: volveré a ustedes. Dentro de poco el mundo ya no me verá, pero ustedes sí me verán, porque yo vivo y también ustedes vivirán. Aquel día comprenderán que yo estoy en mi Padre y ustedes en mí y yo en ustedes. El que tiene mis mandamientos y los lleva a la práctica, ése es el que me ama; y el que me ame será amado de mi Padre; y yo le amaré y me manifestaré a él.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to his disciples, “The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphaned; I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” [RSV]

Ἐὰν ἀγαπᾶτέ με, τὰς ἐντολὰς τὰς ἐμὰς τηρήσατε, καὶ ἐγὼ ἐρωτήσω τὸν πατέρα καὶ ἄλλον παράκλητον δώσει ὑμῖν, ἵνα μένῃ μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα, τὸ Πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας, ὃ ὁ κόσμος οὐ δύναται λαβεῖν, ὅτι οὐ θεωρεῖ αὐτὸ οὐδὲ γινώσκει αὐτό· ὑμεῖς δὲ γινώσκετε αὐτό, ὅτι παρ᾽ ὑμῖν μένει καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν ἔσται. οὐκ ἀφήσω ὑμᾶς ὀρφανούς· ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς. ἔτι μικρὸν καὶ ὁ κόσμος με οὐκέτι θεωρεῖ, ὑμεῖς δὲ θεωρεῖτέ με, ὅτι ἐγὼ ζῶ καὶ ὑμεῖς ζήσεσθε. ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ γνώσεσθε ὑμεῖς ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ πατρί μου καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐν ἐμοὶ κἀγὼ ἐν ὑμῖν. ὁ ἔχων τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ τηρῶν αὐτάς, ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν ὁ ἀγαπῶν με· ὁ δὲ ἀγαπῶν με ἀγαπηθήσεται ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου, καὶ ἐγὼ ἀγαπήσω αὐτὸν καὶ ἐμφανίσω αὐτῷ ἐμαυτόν.
