Por aquellos días, atravesando Anfípolis y Apolonia los apóstoles llegaron a Tesalónica, donde los judíos tenían una sinagoga. Pablo, según su costumbre, se dirigió a ellos y durante tres sábados discutió con ellos basándose en las Escrituras, explicando y probando que Cristo tenía que padecer y resucitar de entre los muertos. «Este Cristo —les decía— es Jesús, a quien yo les anuncio». Algunos de ellos se convencieron y se unieron a Pablo y Silas, así como una gran multitud de los que adoraban a Dios y de griegos, y no pocas de las mujeres principales. Pero los judíos, movidos por la envidia, reunieron a gente maleante de la calle, armaron tumultos y alborotaron la ciudad. Se presentaron en casa de Jasón buscándolos para llevarlos ante el pueblo. Al no encontrarlos, arrastraron a Jasón y a algunos hermanos ante los magistrados de la ciudad, mientras gritaban: «Ésos que han revolucionado el mundo se han presentado también aquí, y Jasón los ha hospedado. Además todos ellos actúan contra los decretos del César, pues afirman que hay otro rey, un tal Jesús.» Al oír esto, la gente y los magistrados de la ciudad se alborotaron. Pero después de recibir una fianza de Jasón y de los demás, los dejaron marchar. [BJ-SAOGM]
In those days, when the apostles had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul went in, as was his custom, and for three weeks he argued with them from the scriptures, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded, and joined Paul and Silas; as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked fellows of the rabble, they gathered a crowd, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the people. And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brethren before the city authorities, crying, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also, and Jason has received them; and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.” And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard this. And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go. [RSV]
Ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις, διοδεύσαντες οἱ ἀπόστολοι τὴν Ἀμφίπολιν καὶ Ἀπολλωνίαν ἦλθον εἰς Θεσσαλονίκην, ὅπου ἦν ἡ συναγωγὴ τῶν Ἰουδαίων. κατὰ δὲ τὸ εἰωθὸς τῷ Παύλῳ εἰσῆλθε πρὸς αὐτούς, καὶ ἐπὶ σάββατα τρία διελέγετο αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ τῶν γραφῶν, διανοίγων καὶ παρατιθέμενος ὅτι τὸν Χριστὸν ἔδει παθεῖν καὶ ἀναστῆναι ἐκ νεκρῶν, καὶ ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Χριστός, Ἰησοῦς ὃν ἐγὼ καταγγέλλω ὑμῖν. καί τινες ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐπείσθησαν καὶ προσεκληρώθησαν τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ τῷ Σίλᾳ, τῶν τε σεβομένων Ἑλλήνων πολὺ πλῆθος γυναικῶν τε τῶν πρώτων οὐκ ὀλίγαι. Προσλαβόμενοι δὲ οἱ ἀπειθοῦντες Ἰουδαῖοι τῶν ἀγοραίων τινὰς ἄνδρας πονηροὺς καὶ ὀχλοποιήσαντες ἐθορύβουν τὴν πόλιν, ἐπιστάντες τε τῇ οἰκίᾳ Ἰάσονος ἐζήτουν αὐτοὺς ἀγαγεῖν εἰς τὸν δῆμον· μὴ εὑρόντες δὲ αὐτοὺς ἔσυρον τὸν Ἰάσονα καί τινας ἀδελφοὺς ἐπὶ τοὺς πολιτάρχας, βοῶντες ὅτι οἱ τὴν οἰκουμένην ἀναστατώσαντες οὗτοι καὶ ἐνθάδε πάρεισιν, οὓς ὑποδέδεκται Ἰάσων· καὶ οὗτοι πάντες ἀπέναντι τῶν δογμάτων Καίσαρος πράσσουσι, βασιλέα ἕτερον λέγοντες εἶναι, Ἰησοῦν. ἐτάραξαν δὲ τὸν ὄχλον καὶ τοὺς πολιτάρχας ἀκούοντας ταῦτα, καὶ λαβόντες τὸ ἱκανὸν παρὰ τοῦ Ἰάσονος καὶ τῶν λοιπῶν ἀπέλυσαν αὐτούς.

En aquel tiempo, los sumos sacerdotes y los fariseos convocaron consejo y se preguntaban: «¿Qué hacemos? Es cierto que este hombre realiza muchos signos. Si le dejamos que siga así, todos creerán en él, y vendrán los romanos y destruirán nuestro Lugar Santo y nuestra nación.» Pero uno de ellos, Caifás, que era el Sumo Sacerdote aquel año, les dijo: «Ustedes no saben nada, ni caen en la cuenta de que conviene que muera uno solo por el pueblo, y así no perezca toda la nación.» Esto no lo dijo por su propia cuenta, sino que, como era Sumo Sacerdote aquel año, profetizó que Jesús iba a morir por la nación — y no sólo por la nación, sino también para reunir en uno a los hijos de Dios que estaban dispersos—. Desde ese día, se pusieron de acuerdo para matarlo. Por eso, Jesús no andaba ya en público entre los judíos, sino que se retiró a la región cercana a la estepa, a un pueblo llamado Efraín, donde se estableció con sus discípulos. [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council, and said, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. If we let him go on thus, every one will believe in him, and the Romans will come and destroy both our place and our nation.” But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all; you do not understand that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish.” He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they took counsel how to put him to death. Jesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews, but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim; and there he stayed with the disciples. [RSV]
Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ συνήγαγον οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συνέδριον κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ λέγοντες· τί ποιοῦμεν, ὅτι οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος πολλὰ σημεῖα ποιεῖ; ἐὰν ἀφῶμεν αὐτὸν οὕτω, πάντες πιστεύσουσιν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ἐλεύσονται οἱ Ῥωμαῖοι καὶ ἀροῦσιν ἡμῶν καὶ τὸν τόπον καὶ τὸ ἔθνος. εἷς δέ τις ἐξ αὐτῶν Καϊάφας, ἀρχιερεὺς ὢν τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ ἐκείνου, εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε οὐδέν, οὐδὲ διαλογίζεσθε ὅτι συμφέρει ἡμῖν ἵνα εἷς ἄνθρωπος ἀποθάνῃ ὑπὲρ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ μὴ ὅλον τὸ ἔθνος ἀπόληται. τοῦτο δὲ ἀφ᾽ ἑαυτοῦ οὐκ εἶπεν, ἀλλὰ ἀρχιερεὺς ὢν τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ ἐκείνου προεφήτευσεν ὅτι ἔμελλεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀποθνήσκειν ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἔθνους, καὶ οὐχ ὑπὲρ τοῦ ἔθνους μόνον, ἀλλ᾽ ἵνα καὶ τὰ τέκνα τοῦ Θεοῦ τὰ διεσκορπισμένα συναγάγῃ εἰς ἕν. ἀπ᾽ ἐκείνης οὖν τῆς ἡμέρας συνεβουλεύσαντο ἵνα ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτόν. Ἰησοῦς οὖν οὐκέτι παρρησίᾳ περιεπάτει ἐν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις, ἀλλὰ ἀπῆλθεν ἐκεῖθεν εἰς τὴν χώραν ἐγγὺς τῆς ἐρήμου, εἰς Ἐφραὶμ λεγομένην πόλιν, κἀκεῖ διέτριβε μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ.

Por sus santas intercesiones, Cristo Dios, ten piedad de nosotros. Amén.
