Por aquellos días, algunos de la secta de los fariseos, que habían abrazado la fe, se levantaron para decir que era necesario circuncidar a los gentiles y mandarles guardar la Ley de Moisés. Se reunieron entonces los apóstoles y presbíteros para tratar este asunto. Después de una larga discusión, Pedro se levantó y les dijo: «Hermanos, ustedes saben que ya desde los primeros días me eligió Dios entre ustedes para que por mi boca oyesen los gentiles la palabra de la Buena Nueva y creyeran. Y Dios, que conoce el interior de las personas, dio testimonio en su favor comunicándoles el Espíritu Santo, como a nosotros. Y no hizo distinción alguna entre ellos y nosotros, pues purificó sus corazones con la fe. ¿Por qué, pues, ahora tientan a Dios imponiendo sobre el cuello de los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros antepasados ni nosotros pudimos sobrellevar? Nosotros creemos más bien que nos salvamos por la gracia del Señor Jesús, del mismo modo que ellos.» Toda la asamblea calló entonces para escuchar a Bernabé y a Pablo contar todos los signos y prodigios que Dios había realizado por medio de ellos entre los gentiles. In those days, some believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees rose up, and said, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.” The apostles and the elders met together to consider this matter. And after there had been much debate, Peter rose and said to them, “Brethren, you know that in the early days God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God who knows the heart bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us; and he made no distinction between us and them, but cleansed their hearts by faith. Now therefore why do you make trial of God by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.” And all the assembly kept silence; and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. Ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις, ἐξανέστησάν τινες τῶν ἀπὸ τῆς αἱρέσεως τῶν Φαρισαίων πεπιστευκότες, λέγοντες ὅτι δεῖ περιτέμνειν αὐτοὺς παραγγέλλειν τε τηρεῖν τὸν νόμον Μωϋσέως. Συνήχθησαν δὲ οἱ ἀπόστολοι καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἰδεῖν περὶ τοῦ λόγου τούτου. Πολλῆς δὲ συζητήσεως γενομένης ἀναστὰς Πέτρος εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί, ὑμεῖς ἐπίστασθε ὅτι ἀφ᾿ ἡμερῶν ἀρχαίων ὁ Θεὸς ἐν ἡμῖν ἐξελέξατο διὰ τοῦ στόματός μου ἀκοῦσαι τὰ ἔθνη τὸν λόγον τοῦ εὐαγγελίου καὶ πιστεῦσαι. καὶ ὁ καρδιογνώστης Θεὸς ἐμαρτύρησεν αὐτοῖς δοὺς αὐτοῖς τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον καθὼς καὶ ἡμῖν, καὶ οὐδὲν διέκρινε μεταξὺ ἡμῶν τε καὶ αὐτῶν τῇ πίστει καθαρίσας τὰς καρδίας αὐτῶν. νῦν οὖν τί πειράζετε τὸν Θεόν, ἐπιθεῖναι ζυγὸν ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον τῶν μαθητῶν, ὃν οὔτε οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν οὔτε ἡμεῖς ἰσχύσαμεν βαστάσαι; ἀλλὰ διὰ τῆς χάριτος τοῦ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ πιστεύομεν σωθῆναι καθ᾿ ὃν τρόπον κἀκεῖνοι. Ἐσίγησε δὲ πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος καὶ ἤκουον Βαρνάβα καὶ Παύλου ἐξηγουμένων ὅσα ἐποίησεν ὁ Θεὸς σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι δι᾿ αὐτῶν.

Dijo el Señor a los judíos que vinieron a Él: «Por eso me ama el Padre, porque doy mi vida para recobrarla de nuevo. Nadie me la quita; yo la doy voluntariamente. Tengo poder para darla y poder para recobrarla; ésa es la orden que he recibido de mi Padre.» Se produjo otra vez una disensión entre los judíos por estas palabras. Muchos de ellos decían: «Tiene un demonio y está loco. ¿Por qué le escuchan?» Pero otros comentaban: «Esas palabras no son de un endemoniado. ¿Puede acaso un demonio abrir los ojos de los ciegos?» Se celebraba por entonces en Jerusalén la fiesta de la Dedicación. Era invierno. Jesús se paseaba por el Templo, en el pórtico de Salomón. Los judíos lo rodearon y le preguntaron: «¿Hasta cuándo vas a tenernos en vilo? Si tú eres el Cristo, dínoslo abiertamente.» Jesús les respondió: «Ya se lo he dicho, pero no me creen. Las obras que hago en nombre de mi Padre son las que dan testimonio de mí. Pero ustedes no creen, porque no son de mis ovejas. Mis ovejas escuchan mi voz; yo las conozco y ellas mi siguen. Yo les doy vida eterna.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to the Jews who came to him, “For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father.” There was again a division among the Jews because of these words. Many of them said, “He has a demon, and he is mad; why listen to him?” Others said, “These are not the sayings of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life.” [RSV]
