Por aquellos días, Bernabé y Saulo volvieron, una vez cumplido su ministerio en Jerusalén, trayéndose consigo a Juan, por sobrenombre Marcos. En la iglesia establecida en Antioquía había profetas y maestros: Bernabé, Simeón apodado el Negro, Lucio de Cirene, Manahén, hermano de leche del tetrarca Herodes, y Saulo. Mientras estaban celebrando el culto del Señor y ayunando, dijo el Espíritu Santo: «Sepárenme a Bernabé y a Saulo para la tarea que he decidido encomendarles.» Entonces, después de haber ayunado y orado, les impusieron las manos y los enviaron. Ellos, pues, enviados por el Espíritu Santo, viajaron a Seleucia, donde embarcaron rumbo a Chipre. Llegados a Salamina, se pusieron a anunciar la palabra de Dios en las sinagogas de los judíos. Contaban también con la ayuda de Juan. Después de atravesar toda la isla, llegaron a Pafos, donde encontraron a un mago, un falso profeta judío, llamado Barjesús, que vivía con el procónsul Sergio Paulo, un hombre prudente. Éste, deseoso de escuchar la palabra de Dios, mandó llamar a Bernabé y a Saulo. Pero se les oponía el mago Elimas —eso quiere decir su nombre—, que intentaba apartar al procónsul de la fe. Entonces Saulo, también llamado Pablo, lleno de Espíritu Santo, lo miró fijamente y le dijo: «Tú, que rebosas por todas partes engaño y maldad, hijo del diablo, enemigo del bien, ¿cuándo vas a dejar de torcer los rectos caminos del Señor? Ahora comprobarás lo que puede hacer contigo la mano del Señor. Vas a quedarte ciego, sin poder ver la luz del sol, durante un tiempo determinado.» Al instante se abatieron sobre él oscuridad y tinieblas, y empezó a dar vueltas buscando a alguien que le llevase de la mano. Al ver lo ocurrido, el procónsul creyó, impresionado por la doctrina del Señor. [BJ-SAOGM]
In those days, Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their mission, bringing with them John whose other name was Mark. Now in the Church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a member of the court of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia; and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them. When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet, named Bar-Jesus. He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) withstood them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith. But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord. [RSV]

Ἦσαν δέ τινες ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ κατὰ τὴν οὖσαν ἐκκλησίαν προφῆται καὶ διδάσκαλοι, ὅ τε Βαρνάβας καὶ Συμεὼν ὁ ἐπικαλούμενος Νίγερ, καὶ Λούκιος ὁ Κυρηναῖος, Μαναήν τε Ἡρῴδου τοῦ τετράρχου σύντροφος καὶ Σαῦλος. λειτουργούντων δὲ αὐτῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ νηστευόντων εἶπε τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον· ἀφορίσατε δή μοι τὸν Βαρνάβαν καὶ τὸν Σαῦλον εἰς τὸ ἔργον ὃ προσκέκλημαι αὐτούς. τότε νηστεύσαντες καὶ προσευξάμενοι καὶ ἐπιθέντες αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας ἀπέλυσαν. Οὗτοι μὲν οὖν ἐκπεμφθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ Πνεύματος τοῦ Ἁγίου κατῆλθον εἰς τὴν Σελεύκειαν, ἐκεῖθέν τε ἀπέπλευσαν εἰς τὴν Κύπρον, καὶ γενόμενοι ἐν Σαλαμῖνι κατήγγελλον τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς τῶν Ἰουδαίων· εἶχον δὲ καὶ Ἰωάννην ὑπηρέτην. Διελθόντες δὲ τὴν νῆσον ἄχρι Πάφου εὗρόν τινα μάγον ψευδοπροφήτην Ἰουδαῖον ᾧ ὄνομα Βαριησοῦς, ὃς ἦν σὺν τῷ ἀνθυπάτῳ Σεργίῳ Παύλῳ, ἀνδρὶ συνετῷ. οὗτος προσκαλεσάμενος Βαρνάβαν καὶ Σαῦλον ἐπεζήτησεν ἀκοῦσαι τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ· ἀνθίστατο δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἐλύμας ὁ μάγος — οὕτω γὰρ μεθερμηνεύεται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ — ζητῶν διαστρέψαι τὸν ἀνθύπατον ἀπὸ τῆς πίστεως. Σαῦλος δέ, ὁ καὶ Παῦλος, πλησθεὶς Πνεύματος Ἁγίου καὶ ἀτενίσας πρὸς αὐτὸν εἶπεν· ὦ πλήρης παντὸς δόλου καὶ πάσης ῥᾳδιουργίας, υἱὲ διαβόλου, ἐχθρὲ πάσης δικαιοσύνης, οὐ παύσῃ διαστρέφων τὰς ὁδοὺς Κυρίου τὰς εὐθείας; καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ χεὶρ Κυρίου ἐπὶ σέ, καὶ ἔσῃ τυφλὸς μὴ βλέπων τὸν ἥλιον ἄχρι καιροῦ. παραχρῆμα δὲ ἔπεσεν ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν ἀχλὺς καὶ σκότος, καὶ περιάγων ἐζήτει χειραγωγούς. τότε ἰδὼν ὁ ἀνθύπατος τὸ γεγονὸς ἐπίστευσεν, ἐκπλησσόμενος ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ τοῦ Κυρίου.

Dijo el Señor a los judíos que vinieron a Él: «En verdad, en verdad les digo que si alguno guarda mi palabra, no gustará la muerte jamás.» Le dijeron los judíos: «Ahora estamos seguros de que tienes un demonio. Abrahán murió, y también los profetas; y tú dices: ‘Si alguno guarda mi palabra, no probará la muerte jamás.’ ¿Eres tú acaso más grande que nuestro padre Abrahán, que murió? Y también los profetas murieron. ¿Quién te crees que eres?» Jesús respondió: «Si yo me glorificara a mí mismo, mi gloria no valdría nada; es mi Padre quien me glorifica, de quien ustedes dicen: ‘Él es nuestro Dios’, y sin embargo no lo conocen. Yo sí que lo conozco, y si dijera que no lo conozco, sería un mentiroso como ustedes. Pero yo lo conozco, y guardo su palabra. Abrahán, padre de ustedes, se regocijó pensando en ver mi Día; lo vio y se alegró.» Entonces los judíos le dijeron: «¿Aún no tienes cincuenta años y has visto a Abrahán?» Jesús les respondió: «En verdad, en verdad les digo que antes de que Abrahán existiera, Yo Soy.» Entonces tomaron piedras para tirárselas; pero Jesús se ocultó y salió del Templo. The Lord said to the Jews who came to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, if any one keeps my word, he will never see death.” The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If any one keeps my word, he will never taste death.’ Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you claim to be?” Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is your God. But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I should be a liar like you; but I do know him and I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; and he saw it and was glad.” The Jews then said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple. Ἀβραὰμ ἀπέθανε καὶ οἱ προφῆται, καὶ σὺ λέγεις, ἐάν τις τὸν λόγον μου τηρήσῃ, οὐ μὴ γεύσηται θανάτου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα; μὴ σὺ μείζων εἶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν Ἀβραάμ, ὅστις ἀπέθανε; καὶ οἱ προφῆται ἀπέθανον· τίνα σεαυτὸν σὺ ποιεῖς; ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς· ἐὰν ἐγὼ δοξάζω ἐμαυτόν, ἡ δόξα μου οὐδέν ἐστιν· ἔστιν ὁ πατήρ μου ὁ δοξάζων με, ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι Θεὸς ὑμῶν ἐστι, καὶ οὐκ ἐγνώκατε αὐτόν· ἐγὼ δὲ οἶδα αὐτόν. καὶ ἐὰν εἴπω ὅτι οὐκ οἶδα αὐτόν, ἔσομαι ὅμοιος ὑμῶν ψεύστης· ἀλλ᾽ οἶδα αὐτὸν καὶ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ τηρῶ. Ἀβραὰμ ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἠγαλλιάσατο ἵνα ἴδῃ τὴν ἡμέραν τὴν ἐμήν, καὶ εἶδε καὶ ἐχάρη. εἶπον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς αὐτόν· πεντήκοντα ἔτη οὔπω ἔχεις καὶ Ἀβραὰμ ἑώρακας; εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγώ εἰμι. ἦραν οὖν λίθους ἵνα βάλωσιν ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν. Ἰησοῦς δὲ ἐκρύβη, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τοῦ ἱεροῦ διελθὼν διὰ μέσου αὐτῶν, καὶ παρῆγεν οὕτως.
