Por aquellos días, estaba Pedro diciendo estas cosas cuando el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que escuchaban la palabra. Los fieles circuncisos que habían venido con Pedro quedaron atónitos al ver que el don del Espíritu Santo había sido derramado también sobre los gentiles, pues les oían hablar en lenguas y alabar a Dios. Entonces Pedro dijo: «¿Acaso puede alguno negar el agua del bautismo a éstos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo como nosotros?» Así que mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesús Cristo. Después le pidieron que se quedase algunos días. Los apóstoles y los hermanos residentes en Judea oyeron que también los gentiles habían aceptado la palabra de Dios. Cuando Pedro subió a Jerusalén, los de la circuncisión se lo reprochaban, diciéndole: «Has entrado en casa de incircuncisos y has comido con ellos.» Pedro entonces se puso a explicarles todo punto por punto: «Estaba yo en oración en la ciudad de Jope, cuando tuve una visión en éxtasis: un objeto parecido a un gran lienzo, atado por las cuatro puntas, bajaba del cielo y llegó hasta mí. Lo miré atentamente y vi en él cuadrúpedos, bestias, reptiles y aves. Oí también una voz que me decía: ‘Pedro, levántate, sacrifica y come.’ Yo respondí: ‘De ninguna manera, Señor. Jamás ha entrado en mi boca nada profano e impuro.’ La voz venida del cielo me habló por segunda vez: ‘No llames profano a lo que Dios ha purificado.’ Esto se repitió tres veces, hasta que finalmente todo fue retirado de nuevo al cielo.» [BJ-SAOGM]
In those days, while Peter was still saying this, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, “Can any one forbid water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days. Now the apostles and the brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying, “Why did you go to uncircumcised men and eat with them?” But Peter began and explained to them in order: “I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, something descending, like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came down to me. Looking at it closely I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ But I said, ‘No, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ But the voice answered a second time from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven.” [RSV]

Dijo el Señor a los judíos que habían venido a Él: «Yo me voy y ustedes me buscarán, y morirán en su pecado. Adonde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir.» Los judíos se decían: «¿Es que se va a suicidar, pues dice: ‘Adonde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir’? Él les decía: «Ustedes son de abajo, yo soy de arriba. Ustedes son de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo. Ya les he dicho que morirán en sus pecados, porque si no creen que Yo Soy, morirán en sus pecados.» Entonces le decían: «¿Quién eres tú?» Jesús les respondió: «Desde el principio, lo que les estoy diciendo. Mucho podría hablar de ustedes y juzgar, pero el que me ha enviado es veraz, y lo que le he oído a él es lo que hablo al mundo.» No comprendieron que les hablaba del Padre. Les dijo, pues, Jesús: «Cuando hayan levantado al Hijo del hombre, entonces sabrán que Yo Soy, y que no hago nada por mi propia cuenta; sino que, lo que el Padre me ha enseñado, eso es lo que hablo. Y el que me ha enviado está conmigo: no me ha dejado solo, porque yo hago siempre lo que le agrada a él.» Al hablar así, muchos creyeron en él. [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to the Jews who came to him, “I go away, and you will seek me and die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.” Then said the Jews, “Will he kill himself, since he says, ‘Where I am going, you can not come’?” He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.” They said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Even what I have told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.” They did not understand that he spoke to them of the Father. So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak thus as my Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me; the Father has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.” As he spoke thus, many believed in him. [RSV]
