Que te escuche el Señor el día del peligro, que te sostenga el nombre del Dios de Jacob; que te envíe auxilio desde el santuario, que te apoye desde el monte Sión. Que se acuerde de todas tus ofrendas, que le agraden tus sacrificios; que cumpla el deseo de tu corazón, que dé éxito a todos tus planes. Que podamos celebrar tu victoria y en el nombre de nuestro Dios alzar estandartes; que el Señor te conceda todo lo que le pides. Ahora reconozco que el Señor da la victoria a su Ungido, que lo ha escuchado desde su santo cielo, con los prodigios de su mano victoriosa. Unos confían en sus carros, otros en su caballería; nosotros invocamos el nombre del Señor, Dios nuestro. Ellos cayeron derribados, nosotros nos mantenemos en pie. Señor, da la victoria al rey y escúchanos cuando te invocamos.

May the Lord hear you in the day of afflictions; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you. May He send you help from His holy place, and may He support you from Zion. May He remember every sacrifice of yours, and may your whole burnt offering be honored. May He give you according to your heart, may He fulfill all your counsel. We will greatly rejoice in Your salvation, and in the name of our God we will be magnified. Now I know the Lord has saved His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven; the salvation of His right hand is mighty. Some glory in chariots, some in horses, but in the name of the Lord our God we shall be magnified. Their feet were tied together; so they fell; but we rose up and were restored. Señor, el rey se alegra por tu fuerza, ¡y cuánto goza con tu victoria! Le has concedido el deseo de su corazón, no le has negado lo que pedían sus labios. Te adelantaste a bendecirlo con el éxito, y has puesto en su cabeza una corona de oro fino. Te pidió vida, y se la has concedido, años que se prolongan sin término. Tu victoria ha engrandecido su fama, lo has vestido de honor y majestad. Le concedes bendiciones incesantes, lo colmas de gozo en tu presencia; porque el rey confía en el Señor, y con la gracia del Altísimo no fracasará. Tu mano encontrará a tus adversarios, tu diestra encontrará a los que te odian; los dejarás, en cuanto te presentes, como si estuvieran en un horno. El Señor, en su ira, se los engullirá y un fuego los devorará. Arrancarás de la tierra sus frutos y su semilla de entre los hombres. Si contra ti traman algún mal, o meditan un plan, no se la podrán. Pues tú harás que te den vuelta la espalda y contra ellos dispararás tus flechas. Levántate, Señor, con tu fuerza, y al son de instrumentos cantaremos tu poder.

O Lord, the king shall be glad in Your power, and in Your salvation he will greatly rejoice. You gave him his soul’s desire, and You did not deprive him of his lips’ request. For You anticipated him with blessings of goodness; You placed a crown of precious stones on his head. He asked You for life, and You gave it to him, length of days unto ages of ages. Great is his glory in Your salvation; glory and majesty You shall place upon him. For You shall give him blessing unto ages of ages; You shall fill him with the joy of Your presence. For the king hopes in the Lord, and in the mercy of the Most High he will not be shaken. May Your hand be found on all Your enemies; may Your right hand find all who hate You. Ψαλμὸς Γʹ (3).

Señor, cuántos son mis enemigos, cuántos se levantan contra mí; cuántos dicen de mí: “ya no lo protege Dios”. Pero tú, Señor, eres mi escudo y mi gloria, tú mantienes alta mi cabeza. Si grito invocando al Señor, El me escucha desde su monte santo. Puedo acostarme y dormir y despertar: el Señor me sostiene. No temeré al pueblo innumerable que acampa a mí alrededor. Levántate, Señor; sálvame, Dios mío: tú golpeaste a mis enemigos en la mejilla, rompiste los dientes de los malvados. De ti, Señor, viene la salvación y la bendición sobre tu pueblo.

O Lord, why do those who afflict me multiply? Many are those who rise up against me. Many are those who say to my soul, “There is no salvation for him in his God.” But You, O Lord, are my protector, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord will help me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who set themselves against me all around. Arise, O Lord, and save me, O my God, for You struck all those who were foolishly at enmity with me; You broke the teeth of sinners. Salvation is of the Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people.

Κύριε, τί ἐπληθύνθησαν οἱ θλίβοντές με; Πολλοὶ ἐπανίστανται ἐπʼ ἐμέ. Πολλοὶ λέγουσι τῇ ψυχῇ μου· Οὐκ ἔστι σωτηρία αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ Θεῷ αὐτοῦ. Σὺ δέ, Κύριε, ἀντιλήπτωρ μου εἶ, δόξα μου καὶ ὑψῶν τὴν κεφαλήν μου. Φωνῇ μου πρὸς Κύριον ἐκέκραξα, καὶ ἐπήκουσέ μου ἐξ ὄρους ἁγίου αὐτοῦ. Ἐγὼ δὲ ἐκοιμήθην καὶ ὕπνωσα· ἐξηγέρθην, ὅτι Κύριος ἀντιλήψεταί μου. Οὐ φοβηθήσομαι ἀπὸ μυριάδων λαοῦ τῶν κύκλῳ συνεπιτιθεμένων μοι. Ἀνάστα, Κύριε, σῶσόν με ὁ Θεός μου, ὅτι σὺ ἐπάταξας πάντας τοὺς ἐχθραίνοντάς μοι ματαίως, ὀδόντας ἁμαρτωλῶν συνέτριψας. Τοῦ Κυρίου ἡ σωτηρία, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν σου ἡ εὐλογία σου.

Señor, no me corrijas con ira, no me castigues con cólera; tus flechas se me han clavado, tu mano pesa sobre mí; no hay parte ilesa en mi carne a causa de tu furor, no tienen descanso mis huesos a causa de mis pecados; mis culpas sobrepasan mi cabeza, son un peso superior a mis fuerzas; mis llagas están podridas y supuran por causa de mi insensatez; voy encorvado y encogido, todo el día camino sombrío. Tengo las espaldas ardiendo, no hay parte ilesa en mi carne; estoy agotado, deshecho del todo; rujo con más fuerza que un león. Señor mío, todas mis ansias están en tu presencia, no se te ocultan mis gemidos; siento palpitar mi corazón, me abandonan las fuerzas, y me falta hasta la luz de los ojos. Mis amigos y compañeros se alejan de mí, mis parientes se quedan a distancia; me tienden lazos los que atentan contra mí, los que desean mi daño me amenazan de muerte, todo el día murmuran traiciones. Pero yo, como un sordo, no oigo; como un mudo no abro la boca; soy como uno que no oye y no puede replicar. En ti, Señor, espero, y tú me escucharás, Señor, Dios mío; esto pido: que no se alegren por mi causa, que, cuando resbale mí pie, no canten triunfo. Porque yo estoy a punto de caer, y mi pena no se aparta de mí: yo confieso mi culpa, me aflige mi pecado. Mis enemigos mortales son poderosos, son muchos los que me aborrecen sin razón, los que me pagan males por bienes, los que me atacan cuando procuro el bien. No me abandones, Señor; Dios mío, no te quedes lejos; ven aprisa a socorrerme, Señor mío, mi salvación.

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your anger. For Your arrows are fixed in me, and Your hand rests on me; there is no healing in my flesh because of Your wrath; there is no peace in my bones because of my sins. For my transgressions rise up over my head; like a heavy burden they are heavy on me. My wounds grow foul and fester because of my folly. I suffer misery, and I am utterly bowed down; I go all the day long with a sad face. For my loins are filled with mockeries, and there is no healing in my flesh. I am afflicted and greatly humbled; I roar because of the groaning of my heart. O Lord, all my desire is before You, and my groaning is not hidden from You. My heart is troubled; my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes, even this is not with me. My friends and neighbors draw near and stand against me, and my near of kin stand far off; and those who seek my soul use violence, and those who seek evil for me speak folly; and they meditate on deceit all the day long. But I like a deaf man do not hear, and I am like a mute who does not open his mouth. I am like a man who does not hear, and who has no reproofs in his mouth. For in You, O Lord, I hope; You will hear, O Lord my God. For I said, “Let not my enemies rejoice over me, for when my foot was shaken, they boasted against me.” For I am ready for wounds, and my pain is continually with me. For I will declare my transgression, and I will be anxious about my sin. But my enemies live, and are become stronger than I; and those who hate me unjustly are multiplied; those who repaid me evil for good slandered me, because I pursue righteousness; and they threw away my love as though it were a stinking corpse. Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not depart from me; give heed to help me, O Lord of my salvation.

Ἐταλαιπώρησα καὶ κατεκάμφθην ἕως τέλους, ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν σκυθρωπάζων ἐπορευόμην. Ὅτι αἱ ψόαι μου ἐπλήσθησαν ἐμπαιγμάτων, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἴασις ἐν τῇ σαρκί μου. Ἐκακώθην καὶ ἐταπεινώθην ἕως σφόδρα, ὠρυόμην ἀπὸ στεναγμοῦ τῆς καρδίας μου. Κύριε, ἐναντίον σου πᾶσα ἡ ἐπιθυμία μου, καὶ ὁ στεναγμός μου ἀπὸ σοῦ οὐκ ἀπεκρύβη. Ἡ καρδία μου ἐταράχθη, ἐγκατέλιπέ με ἡ ἰσχύς μου, καὶ τὸ φῶς τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν μου καὶ αὐτὸ οὐκ ἔστι μετʼ ἐμοῦ. Οἱ φίλοι μου καὶ οἱ πλησίον μου ἐξεναντίας μου ἤγγισαν καὶ ἔστησαν, καὶ οἱ ἔγγιστά μου ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἔστησαν. Καὶ ἐξεβιάζοντο οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχήν μου, καὶ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὰ κακά μοι ἐλάλησαν ματαιότητας, καὶ δολιότητας ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐμελέτησαν. Ἐγὼ δὲ ὡσεὶ κωφὸς οὐκ ἤκουον καὶ ὡσεὶ ἄλαλος οὐκ ἀνοίγων τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ. Καὶ ἐγενόμην ὡσεὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἀκούων καὶ οὐκ ἔχων ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ ἐλεγμούς. Ὅτι ἐπὶ σοί, Κύριε, ἤλπισα· σὺ εἰσακούσῃ, Κύριε ὁ Θεός μου. Ὅτι εἶπον· Μήποτε ἐπιχαρῶσί μοι οἱ ἐχθροί μου· καὶ ἐν τῷ σαλευθῆναι πόδας μου ἐπʼ ἐμὲ ἐμεγαλοῤῥημόνησαν. Ὅτι ἐγὼ εἰς μάστιγας ἕτοιμος, καὶ ἡ ἀλγηδών μου ἐνώπιόν μού ἐστι διὰ παντός. Ὅτι τὴν ἀνομίαν μου ἐγὼ ἀναγγελῶ καὶ μεριμνήσω ὑπὲρ τῆς ἁμαρτίας μου. Οἱ δὲ ἐχθροί μου ζῶσι καὶ κεκραταίωνται ὑπὲρ ἐμέ, καὶ ἐπληθύνθησαν οἱ μισοῦντές με ἀδίκως. Οἱ ἀνταποδιδόντες μοι κακὰ ἀντὶ ἀγαθῶν ἐνδιέβαλλόν με, ἐπεὶ κατεδίωκον ἀγαθωσύνην. Μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς με, Κύριε ὁ Θεός μου, μὴ ἀποστῇς ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ. Πρόσχες εἰς τὴν βοήθειάν μου, Κύριε τῆς σωτηρίας μου.

Ψαλμὸς ΞΒʹ (62).

Oh Dios, tú eres mi Dios, por ti madrugo, mi alma está sedienta de ti; mi carne tiene ansia de ti, como tierra reseca, agostada, sin agua. ¡Cómo te contemplaba en el santuario viendo tu fuerza y tu gloria! Tu gracia vale más que la vida, te alabarán mis labios. Toda mi vida te bendeciré y alzaré las manos invocándote. Me saciaré como de enjundia y de manteca, y mis labios te alabarán jubilosos. En el lecho me acuerdo de ti y velando medito en ti, porque fuiste mi auxilio, y a la sombra de tus alas canto con júbilo; mi alma está unida a ti, y tu diestra me sostiene. Pero los que buscan mi perdición bajarán a lo profundo de la tierra; serán entregados a la espada, y echados como pasto a las raposas. Y el rey se alegrará con Dios, se felicitarán los que juran por su nombre, cuando tapen la boca a los traidores.

O God, my God, I rise early to be with You; my soul thirsts for You. How often my flesh thirsts for You in a desolate, impassable, and waterless land. So in the holy place I appear before You, to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your mercy is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You in my life; I will lift up my hands in Your name. May my soul be filled, as if with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall sing praise to You with lips filled with rejoicing. If I remembered You on my bed, I meditated on You at daybreak; for You are my helper, and in the shelter of Your wings I will greatly rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand takes hold of me. But they seek for my soul in vain; they shall go into the lowest parts of the earth. They shall be given over to the edge of the sword; they shall be a portion for foxes. But the king shall be glad in God; all who swear by Him shall be praised, for the mouth that speaks unrighteous things is stopped.

Señor, Dios mío, de día te pido auxilio, de noche grito en tu presencia; llegue hasta ti mi súplica, inclina mi oído a mi clamor. Porque mi alma está colmada de desdichas, y mi vida está al borde del abismo; ya me cuentan con los que bajan a la fosa, soy como un inválido. Tengo mi cama entre los muertos, como los caídos que yacen en el sepulcro, de los cuales ya no guardas memoria, porque fueron arrancados de tu mano. Me has colocado en lo hondo de la fosa, en las tinieblas del fondo; tú cólera pesa sobre mí, me echas encima todas tus olas. Has alejado de mí a mis conocidos, me has hecho repugnante para ellos: encerrado, no puedo salir, y los ojos se me nublan de pesar. Todo el día te estoy invocando, tendiendo las manos hacia ti. ¿Harás tú maravillas por los muertos? ¿Se alzarán las sombras para darte gracias? ¿Se anuncia en el sepulcro tu misericordia, o tu fidelidad en el reino de la muerte? ¿Se conocen tus maravillas en la tiniebla, o tu justicia en el país del olvido? Pero yo te pido auxilio, por la mañana irá a tu encuentro mi súplica. ¿Por qué, Señor, me rechazas, y me escondes tu rostro? Desde niño fui desgraciado y enfermo, me doblo bajo el peso de tus terrores, pasó sobre mí tu incendio, tus espantos me han consumido: me rodean como las aguas todo el día, me envuelven todos a una; alejaste de mí amigos y compañeros: mi compañía son las tinieblas.

O Lord God of my salvation, I cry day and night before You. Let my prayer come before You; incline Your ear to my supplication, O Lord. For my soul is filled with sorrows, and my soul draws near to Hades; I am counted among those who go down into the pit; I am like a helpless man, free among the dead, like slain men thrown down and sleeping in a grave, whom You remember no more, but they are removed from Your hand. They laid me in the lowest pit, in dark places and in the shadow of death. Your wrath rested upon me, and You brought all Your billows over me. You removed my acquaintances far from me; they made me an abomination among themselves; I was betrayed, and did not go forth. My eyes weakened from poverty; O Lord, I cry to You the whole day long; I spread out my hands to You. Will You work wonders for the dead? Or will physicians raise them up, and acknowledge You? Shall anyone in the grave describe Your mercy and Your truth in destruction? Shall Your wonders be known in darkness, and Your righteousness in a forgotten land? But I cry to You, O Lord, and in the morning my prayer shall come near to You. Why, O Lord, do You reject my soul, and turn away Your face from me? I am poor and in troubles from my youth; but having been exalted, I was humbled and brought into despair. Your fierce anger passed over me, and Your terrors greatly troubled me; they compassed me like water all the day long; they surrounded me at once. You removed far from me neighbor and friend, and my acquaintances because of my misery.

Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς τῆς σωτηρίας μου, ἡμέρας ἐκέκραξα καὶ ἐν νυκτὶ ἐναντίον σου. Εἰσελθέτω ἐνώπιόν σου ἡ προσευχή μου, κλῖνον τὸ οὖς σου εἰς τὴν δέησίν μου. Ὅτι ἐπλήσθη κακῶν ἡ ψυχή μου, καὶ ἡ ζωή μου τῷ ᾅδῃ ἤγγισε. Προσελογίσθην μετὰ τῶν καταβαινόντων εἰς λάκκον, ἐγενήθην ὡσεὶ ἄνθρωπος ἀβοήθητος, ἐν νεκροῖς ἐλεύθερος, ὡσεὶ τραυματίαι καθεύδοντες ἐν τάφῳ, ὧν οὐκ ἐμνήσθης ἔτι, καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου ἀπώσθησαν. Ἔθεντό με ἐν λάκκῳ κατωτάτῳ, ἐν σκοτεινοῖς καὶ ἐν σκιᾷ θανάτου. Ἐπʼ ἐμὲ ἐπεστηρίχθη ὁ θυμός σου, καὶ πάντας τοὺς μετεωρισμούς σου ἐπήγαγες ἐπʼ ἐμέ. Ἐμάκρυνας τοὺς γνωστούς μου ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ, ἔθεντό με βδέλυγμα ἑαυτοῖς, παρεδόθην καὶ οὐκ ἐξεπορευόμην. Οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου ἠσθένησαν ἀπὸ πτωχείας· ἐκέκραξα πρὸς σέ, Κύριε, ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν, διεπέτασα πρὸς σὲ τὰς χεῖράς μου. El Señor hace justicia y defiende a todos los oprimidos; enseñó sus caminos a Moisés y sus hazañas a los hijos de Israel. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and everything within me, bless His holy name. The Lord shows mercies and judgment to all who are wronged. He made known His ways to Moses, the things He willed to the sons of Israel. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. Escucha, Señor, mi oración, y presta oído a mi súplica; respóndeme leal, por tu justicia. No entres en pleito con tu siervo, pues no hay ser vivo justo ante ti. Me persigue a muerte el enemigo, aplasta mi vida contra el suelo; me obliga a vivir entre tinieblas, como los que han muerto para siempre. Ya se apaga el aliento en mí, mi corazón por dentro enmudece. Recuerdo los días de antaño, medito todas tus acciones, pondero las obras de tus manos; hacia ti tiendo mis manos, como tierra sedienta de ti. Pausa. ¡Respóndeme pronto, Señor, que ya me falta el aliento; no escondas tu rostro lejos de mí, pues sería como los que bajan a la fosa! Hazme sentir tu amor por la mañana, pues yo cuento contigo; muéstrame el camino que he de seguir, pues estoy pendiente de ti. Entonces le dice: “¡Que nunca jamás brote fruto de ti!” Y al momento se secó la higuera. Al verlo los Discípulos se maravillaron y decían: “¿Cómo al momento quedó seca la higuera?” Jesús les respondió: “Yo os aseguro: si tenéis fe y no vaciláis, no sólo haréis lo de la higuera, sino que si aun decís a este monte: ‘Quítate y arrójate al mar’, así se hará. Y todo cuanto pidáis con fe en la oración, lo recibiréis”. Llegado al Templo, mientras enseñaba se le acercaron los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo diciendo: “¿Con qué autoridad haces esto? ¿Y quién Te ha dado tal autoridad?” Jesús les respondió: “También yo os voy a preguntar una cosa; si me contestáis a ella, yo os diré a mi vez con qué autoridad hago esto. De nuevo envió otros siervos en mayor número que los primeros; pero los trataron de la misma manera. Finalmente les envió a su hijo, diciendo: ‘A mi hijo le respetarán.’ Pero los labradores, al ver al hijo, se dijeron entre sí: ‘Éste es el heredero. Vamos, matémosle y quedémonos con su herencia’. Y, agarrándole, le echaron fuera de la viña y le mataron. Cuando venga, pues, el dueño de la viña, ¿qué hará con aquellos labradores?” Dícenle: “A esos miserables les dará una muerte miserable y arrendará la viña a otros labradores, que le paguen los frutos a su tiempo”. Y Jesús les dice: “¿No habéis leído nunca en las Escrituras: La piedra que los constructores desecharon, en piedra angular se ha convertido; fue el Señor quien hizo esto y es maravilloso a nuestros ojos? At that time, Jesus was returning to the city, he was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and never doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will be done. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you a question; and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven or from men?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the multitude; for all hold that John was a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ And he answered, ‘I will not;’ but afterward he repented and went. And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit; and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them. Afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.” Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.” [RSV]

Ten piedad de mí, oh Dios, por tu bondad, por tu inmensa ternura borra mi delito, lávame a fondo de mi culpa, purifícame de mi pecado. Pues yo reconozco mi delito, mi pecado está siempre ante mí; contra ti, contra ti solo pequé, lo malo a tus ojos cometí. Por que seas justo cuando hablas e irreprochable cuando juzgas. Mira que nací culpable, pecador me concibió mi madre. Y tú amas la verdad en lo íntimo del ser, en mi interior me inculcas sabiduría. Rocíame con hisopo hasta quedar limpio, lávame hasta blanquear más que la nieve. Devuélveme el son del gozo y la alegría, se alegren los huesos que tú machacaste. Aparta tu vista de mis yerros y borra todas mis culpas. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. Mientras Jacob se lamentaba por la falta de José, este valiente estaba sobre el trono, estimado como rey; porque no se esclavizó a los placeres de Egipto, por lo cual fue glorificado por Dios que ve los corazones de la gente y otorga las coronas incorruptibles. [SAOGM]

Jacob lamented the loss of Joseph; yet the courageous one sat on a chariot, honored as a king. For by refusing to be enslaved by the pleasures of the Egyptian woman, he was later glorified in return by Him who sees men’s hearts and deals out the imperishable crown. [SD]

ᾨδὴ ηʹ. Ὁ Εἱρμός.

El fuego insaciable huyo atemorizado ante el Espíritu puro, y carne incompatible de los Varones piadosos; y cuando las llamas se aminoraron, ellos cantaron un himno inmortal: “Obras todas del Señor, alaben al Señor, alábenle y ensálcenle por todos los siglos”. (2 veces)

Fed with unending fuel, the fire * that wearied not shuddered at the spotless bodies, * adorned as were the souls, * of the pious Servants and yielded to them. * When the ever-living flame had shrunken away, * they sang the hymn that henceforth was immortalized: * O bless the Lord, all you His works, and sing a hymn to Him, * and exalt Him beyond measure unto all the ages. Mientras el Salvador iba a su Pasión, dijo a sus amigos: “Si guardan mis mandamientos entonces todos sabrán que son mis discípulos; queden en paz unos con otros y con todos, y sean humildes para ser elevados, y sepan que soy yo el Señor, alábenme y ensálcenme por todos los siglos”. (2 veces)

“By this shall all know that you are * My disciples, if you keep all My commandments.” * So did Christ declare to His friends, as He was heading towards His Passion. * “Be at peace within yourselves and likewise with all, * and you shall be exalted thinking humble thoughts. * And knowing Me to be the Lord, bless Me and sing a hymn to Me, * and exalt Me beyond measure unto all the ages.” (2)

Oh Cristo creador nuestro, engrandeciste a tu Madre de quien te revestiste de un cuerpo parecido al nuestro, salvándonos de nuestras ignorancias; por lo tanto nosotros todas las generaciones te bendecimos y te ensalzamos. (2 veces)

You have magnified, O Christ, * the Theotokos who bore You. * From her You donned a body * susceptible to passion like ours, O Maker; * it delivers us from the ignorance of our offenses. * All our generations call her blessed, and we magnify You. (2)

Y es que todo profeta no será muerto sino en Jerusalén, como está escrito. Y ahora ha llegado el tiempo de que les he dicho. Pues seré entregado al escarnio, en manos de pecadores los que me clavarán en la cruz y me empujarán al sepulcro, y me tomarán por muerto. Mas confíen que resucitare al tercer día, para la alegría de los fieles y su vida eterna. [SAOGM]

Lord, as You were coming to Your Passion, You took Your disciples aside and spoke to them privately to strengthen them. “How have you forgotten the words that I said to you before, that according to the Scriptures no prophet should be killed except in Jerusalem? The time of which I spoke to You is now at hand. Behold, I am betrayed into the hands of sinners, to be mocked by them. They will nail me to a cross and hand me over to be buried, and they will consider me an abomination, because I will be dead. But you, take courage, for I will rise on the third day, bringing the faithful exultant joy and eternal life.” [SD]

Más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa incomparablemente que los serafines, tú que sin mancha has engendrado a Dios, el Verbo, verdaderamente Theotokos, te alabamos.

Greater in honor than the Cherubim, and in glory greater beyond compare than the Seraphim; you without corruption gave birth to God the Word, and are truly Theotokos. You do we magnify.

El que es bendito, Cristo nuestro Dios, eternamente, ahora y siempre y por los siglos de los siglos. ( Amén. )

Blessed is Christ our God, the One who is, always, now and ever and to the ages of ages. ( Amen. )

Ὁ ὢν εὐλογητὸς Χριστὸς ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν πάντοτε, νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων. ( Ἀμήν. )

Rey celestial, consolida a nuestros piadosos gobernantes; afirma la fe; amansa las naciones; apacigua al mundo; preserva bien a esta (o monasterio) y a esta ciudad (o pueblo, o isla); signa a nuestros difuntos padres y hermanos en las habitaciones de los Justos; y a nosotros recíbenos, como bondadoso y amante de la humanidad que eres, en arrepentimiento y confesión. ( Amén. )

O heavenly King, uphold our rulers, strengthen the Faith, calm the nations, give peace to the world. Protect this holy Church (or, Monastery); grant our departed fathers and brethren that they may dwell with the righteous, and accept us in repentance and confession; for You are good and benevolent. ( Amen. )

Ahora recitamos la oración de S. Efrén y con cada verso hacemos una reverencia o postración.

We now make three prostrations: i.e. we recite the Prayer of St. Ephrem (quietly or mentally), and with each verse we make a bow or prostration.

Καὶ ποιοῦμεν Μετανοίας τρεῖς μεγάλας, λέγοντες μυστικῶς ἐν ἑκάστῃ Μετανοίᾳ ἀνὰ Στίχον τῆς ἑπομένης Εὐχῆς τοῦ Ὁσίου Ἐφραίμ.

While it has become customary for this prayer to be recited by someone aloud, nevertheless the indicated practice is that it be recited inaudibly and mentally by everyone, clergy and congregants alike, with the accompanying bows etc.

Ἄν καὶ συνηθίζεται ἡ εὐχὴ αὕτη νὰ λέγεται ἐκφώνως, ὅμως ἡ ὀρθὴ πράξις εἶναι νὰ λέγεται μυστικῶς καὶ νοερῶς ὑπὸ πάντων, κλήρου τε καὶ λαοῦ, ποιούντων τῶν μετανοιῶν κτλ.

Εὐχὴ τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἐφραίμ

Señor y Dueño de mi vida, el espíritu de ociosidad, de curiosidad, de ambición y de locuacidad, no me lo des.

O Lord and Master of my life, do not permit the spirit of laziness and meddling, the lust for power and idle talk to come into me.

Κύριε καὶ Δέσποτα τῆς ζωῆς μου, πνεῦμα ἀργίας, περιεργίας, φιλαρχίας καὶ ἀργολογίας μή μοι δῷς.

Mas el espíritu de castidad, de humildad, de paciencia y de amor, concédemelo a mí, tu siervo.

Instead, grant me, Your servant, the spirit of prudence, humility, patience and love.

Πνεῦμα δὲ σωφροσύνης, ταπεινοφροσύνης, ὑπομονῆς καὶ ἀγάπης χάρισαί μοι τῷ σῷ δούλῳ.

Sí, Señor y Rey, concédeme percibir mis propias faltas y no juzgar a mis hermanos. Porque bendito eres por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

Yes, Lord and King, give me the power to see my own faults and not to judge my brother. For You are blessed unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Acercándose el Señor a su voluntaria pasión por nuestra salvación, Cristo, verdadero Dios nuestro, por las intercesiones de su purísima e inmaculada Madre, por el poder de la vivificante y preciosa Cruz, la protección de las celestiales potestades incorpóreas, las súplicas del venerable y glorioso profeta, precursor y bautista Juan, de los santos, gloriosos y alabadísimos apóstoles, de los santos, gloriosos y victoriosos mártires, de nuestros justos y teóforos padres, (santo patrono del templo local); de los santos y justos familiares del Señor, Joaquín y Ana, y de todos los santos, tenga misericordia de nosotros y sálvanos, pues eres un Dios bondadoso y filántropo.

May He who is coming to His voluntary Passion for our salvation, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
