Así dice el Señor del rey de Asiria: «No entrará en esta ciudad, no lanzará flechas en ella, no le opondrá escudo, ni alzará en contra de ella empalizada. Volverá por la ruta que ha traído. No entrará en esta ciudad, oráculo del Señor. Yo protegeré a esta ciudad para salvarla, por quien soy y por mi siervo David.» Aquella misma noche salió el Ángel del Señor e hirió en el campamento asirio a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres; a la hora de despertarse, por la mañana, no había más que cadáveres. Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, partió y, volviéndose, se quedó en Nínive. Y sucedió que estando él postrado en el templo de su dios Nisroc, sus hijos Adramélec y Saréser lo mataron a espada y se pusieron a salvo en el país de Ararat. Su hijo Asaradón reinó en su lugar. En aquellos días Ezequías cayó enfermo de muerte. El profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, vino a decirle: «Así habla el Señor: Haz testamento, porque muerto eres y no vivirás.» Ezequías volvió su rostro a la pared y oró al Señor. Dijo: «¡Ah, Señor! Dígnate recordar que yo he andado en tu presencia con fidelidad y corazón perfecto haciendo lo recto a tus ojos.» Y Ezequías lloró con abundantes lágrimas. Entonces le fue dirigida a Isaías la palabra del Señor, diciendo: «Vete y di a Ezequías: Así habla el Señor, Dios de tu padre David: He oído tu plegaria, he visto tus lágrimas y voy a curarte. Dentro de tres días subirás al templo del Señor. Añadiré quince años a tus días. Te libraré a ti y a esta ciudad de la mano del rey de Asiria, y ampararé a esta ciudad.» [BJ-SAOGM]
“Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning the king of the Assyrians: ‘He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor build a siege mound against it. By the way he came, by the same shall he return,’ says the Lord. ‘I will protect this city, to save it for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.’” Then the Angel of the Lord went out and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, they discovered all the dead bodies. Then Sennacherib king of the Assyrians departed and returned to Nineveh, and dwelt there. Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword, then escaped into the land of Ararat; and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place. In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a true heart, and did what is pleasing in Your sight.” So Hezekiah wept loudly. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I heard your prayer, I see your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will protect this city.” ’” [SAAS]

Abrán se estableció en Canaán y Lot en las ciudades de la vega, donde plantó sus tiendas hasta Sodoma. Los habitantes de Sodoma eran muy malos y pecadores contra el Señor. Dijo el Señor a Abrán, después que Lot se separó de él: «Alza la vista y mira desde el lugar donde estás hacia el norte, el mediodía, el oriente y el poniente. Pues bien, toda la tierra que ves te la daré a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre. Haré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra: tal que si alguien puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también podrá contar tu descendencia. Ponte en marcha, recorre el país a lo largo y a lo ancho, porque a ti te lo he de dar.» Y Abrán vino a establecerse con sus tiendas junto a la encina de Mambré, que está en Hebrón, y edificó allí un altar al Señor. Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, but Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful before God. Then God said to Abram, after Lot separated from him, “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are – northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land you see I give to you and your seed forever. And I will make your seed as the dust of the earth; that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your seed also could be numbered. Arise, walk in the land through its length and its breadth, for I will give it to you.” Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the oak of Mamre in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord. El temor del Señor es fuente de vida que libra de los lazos de la muerte. Pueblo numeroso, gloria de reyes, escasez de gente, ruina de príncipes. El sosegado abunda en prudencia, el impulsivo muestra gran necedad. Corazón apacible es salud para el cuerpo, la envidia corroe los huesos. Quien oprime al pobre ultraja a su Creador; quien se apiada del indigente le da gloria. El malvado tropieza en su maldad, el justo se refugia en su honradez. La sabiduría habita en mentes sensatas, entre los necios es desconocida. La justicia engrandece a las naciones, el pecado empobrece a los pueblos. El rey favorece al siervo eficiente y descarga su cólera sobre el inepto. Respuesta amable aplaca la ira, palabra hiriente enciende la cólera. La lengua del sabio favorece el saber, la boca del necio difunde necedad. En todo lugar los ojos del Señor observan a malos y buenos. Lengua sana es árbol de vida, lengua perversa rompe el corazón. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, for it causes one to turn from the snare of death. The glory of a king is in a large nation, but the destruction of a ruler is in a lack of people. A longsuffering man is strong in discernment, but the fainthearted man is strongly without discernment. A man with a gentle spirit is a healer of the heart, but a sensual heart is the moth of the bones. He who oppresses the poor provokes his Maker, but he who honors Him has mercy upon a poor man. In his evil an ungodly man will be rejected, but a righteous man has confidence in his own holiness. There is wisdom in the good heart of a man, but wisdom is unknown in the heart of those without discernment. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sins diminish tribes. A wise servant is acceptable to a king, and by his own versatility he removes dishonor. Wrath destroys even men of discernment; but a humble answer turns away anger, and a grievous word stirs up wrath. The tongue of the wise understands good things, but the mouth of those without discernment proclaims evil things. The eyes of the Lord are in every place; they keep watch over both the evil and the good. The healing of the tongue is a tree of life, and the one who guards it will be filled with the Spirit. [SAAS]
