Queridos, ay de ellos que han imitado la conducta de Caín, que por dinero se han abandonado al descarrío de Balaán y han perecido en la rebelión de Coré. Esos que banquetean desvergonzadamente en sus ágapes y se apacientan a sí mismos son una mancha; son nubes sin agua zarandeadas por el viento, árboles de otoño sin frutos y arrancados de raíz, doblemente muertos; son olas salvajes del mar, que echan la espuma de su propia vergüenza, estrellas errantes a quienes está reservada la oscuridad de las tinieblas para siempre. Henoc, el séptimo después de Adán, profetizó ya sobre ellos: «Miren, el Señor ha venido con sus santas miríadas para realizar el juicio contra todos y dejar convictos a todos los impíos de todas las obras de impiedad que realizaron y de todas las palabras duras que hablaron contra él los pecadores impíos.» Éstos son unos murmuradores, descontentos de su suerte, que viven según sus pasiones, cuya boca dice palabras altisonantes, que adulan por interés. En cambio ustedes, queridos, acuérdense de las predicciones de los apóstoles de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo. Ellos les decían: «Al final de los tiempos aparecerán hombres sarcásticos que vivirán según sus propias pasiones impías.» Éstos son los que crean divisiones, pues llevan una vida sólo natural, sin tener el espíritu. Pero ustedes, queridos, edifíquense firmemente en su santísima fe y oren guiados por el Espíritu Santo. Manténganse en el amor de Dios, aguardando la misericordia de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, que nos dará la vida eterna. Traten de convencer a los que vacilan; a otros, traten de salvarlos arrancándolos del fuego; y a otros muéstrenles misericordia con cautela, odiando incluso la túnica manchada por su carne. Al que es capaz de guardarlos inmunes de caída y de presentarlos sin tacha ante su gloria con alegría, al Dios único, nuestro Salvador, por medio de Jesús Cristo, nuestro Señor, gloria, majestad, fuerza y poder antes de todo tiempo, ahora y por todos los siglos. Beloved, woe to the ungodly! For they walk in the way of Cain, and abandon themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error, and perish in Korah’s rebellion. These are blemishes on your love feasts, as they boldly carouse together, looking after themselves; waterless clouds, carried along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars for whom the nether gloom of darkness has been reserved for ever. It was of these also that Enoch in the seventh generation from Adam prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with his holy myriads, to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness which they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own passions, loud-mouthed boasters, flattering people to gain advantage. But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; they said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who set up divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God; wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And convince some, who doubt; save some, by snatching them out of the fire; on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you without blemish before the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. Ἀγαπητοί, οὐαὶ τοῖς ἀσεβέσιν, ὅτι τῇ ὁδῷ τοῦ Κάϊν ἐπορεύθησαν, καὶ τῇ πλάνῃ τοῦ Βαλαὰμ μισθοῦ ἐξεχύθησαν, καὶ τῇ ἀντιλογίᾳ τοῦ Κορὲ ἀπώλοντο. Οὗτοί εἰσιν ἐν ταῖς ἀγάπαις ὑμῶν σπιλάδες, συνευωχούμενοι ἀφόβως, ἑαυτοὺς ποιμαίνοντες, νεφέλαι ἄνυδροι ὑπὸ ἀνέμων παραφερόμεναι, δένδρα φθινοπωρινά, ἄκαρπα, δὶς ἀποθανόντα, ἐκριζωθέντα, κύματα ἄγρια θαλάσσης ἐπαφρίζοντα τὰς ἑαυτῶν αἰσχύνας, ἀστέρες πλανῆται, οἷς ὁ ζόφος τοῦ σκότους εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τετήρηται. προεφήτευσε δὲ καὶ τούτοις ἕβδομος ἀπὸ Ἀδὰμ Ἐνὼχ λέγων· ἰδοὺ ἦλθε Κύριος ἐν ἁγίαις μυριάσιν αὐτοῦ, ποιῆσαι κρίσιν κατὰ πάντων καὶ ἐλέγξαι πάντας τοὺς ἀσεβεῖς αὐτῶν περὶ πάντων τῶν ἔργων ἀσεβείας αὐτῶν ὧν ἠσέβησαν καὶ περὶ πάντων τῶν σκληρῶν ὧν ἐλάλησαν κατ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀσεβεῖς. Οὗτοί εἰσι γογγυσταί, μεμψίμοιροι, κατὰ τὰς ἐπιθυμίας αὐτῶν πορευόμενοι, καὶ τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν λαλεῖ ὑπέρογκα, θαυμάζοντες πρόσωπα ὠφελείας χάριν. En aquel tiempo, se levantaron los sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y el Consejo de Ancianos, y llevaron a Jesús ante Pilato. Comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: «Hemos encontrado a éste alborotando a nuestro pueblo, prohibiendo pagar tributos al César y diciendo que él es Cristo rey.» Pilato le preguntó: «¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos?» Él declaró: «Sí, tú lo dices.» Pilato dijo a los sumos sacerdotes y a la gente: «No encuentro en este hombre delito alguno.» Pero ellos insistían: «Solivianta al pueblo con sus enseñanzas por toda Judea, desde Galilea, donde comenzó, hasta aquí.» Al oír esto, Pilato preguntó si aquel hombre era galileo. Y, al saber que pertenecía a la jurisdicción de Herodes, lo remitió donde éste, que por aquellos días estaba también en Jerusalén. Cuando Herodes vio a Jesús, se alegró mucho, pues hacía largo tiempo que deseaba verle. Había oído muchas cosas de él, y esperaba que hiciera algún signo en su presencia. Le hizo numerosas preguntas, pero él no respondió nada. Estaban allí los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas acusándole con insistencia. Pero Herodes, con su guardia, después de despreciarle y burlarse de él, le puso un espléndido vestido y lo remitió a Pilato. Aquel día Herodes y Pilato se hicieron amigos, pues antes estaban enemistados. Pilato convocó a los sumos sacerdotes, a los magistrados y al pueblo, y les dijo: «Me han traído a este hombre como alborotador del pueblo, pero yo le he interrogado delante de ustedes y no he hallado en él ninguno de los delitos de que le acusan. Ni tampoco Herodes, porque nos lo ha remitido. Nada ha hecho, pues, que merezca la muerte. Así que le daré un escarmiento y lo soltaré.» Toda la muchedumbre se puso a gritar a una: «¡Fuera ése, suéltanos a Barrabás!» (Éste tal había sido encarcelado por un motín que hubo en la ciudad y por asesinato.) Pilato les habló de nuevo, con la intención de librar a Jesús, pero ellos seguían gritando: «¡Crucifícalo, crucifícalo!» Por tercera vez les dijo: «Pero ¿qué mal ha hecho éste? No encuentro en él ningún delito que merezca la muerte; así que le daré un escarmiento y lo soltaré.» Pero ellos insistían pidiendo a grandes voces que fuera crucificado, y arreciaban en sus gritos. Pilato sentenció que se cumpliera su demanda. Soltó, pues, al que habían pedido, al que estaba en la cárcel por motín y asesinato, y a Jesús se lo entregó a su deseo. Cuando lo llevaban, echaron mano de un cierto Simón de Cirene, que venía del campo, y le cargaron la cruz para que la llevara detrás de Jesús. Le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo y mujeres que se dolían y se lamentaban por él. Jesús se volvió a ellas y les dijo: «Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloren por mí; lloren más bien por ustedes y por sus hijos. Porque llegarán días en que se dirá: ¡Dichosas las estériles, las entrañas que no engendraron y los pechos que no criaron! Entonces se pondrán a decir a los montes: ¡Caigan sobre nosotros! Y a las colinas: ¡Sepúltennos! Porque si hacen esto con el leño verde, ¿qué no se hará con el seco?» Llegados al lugar llamado Calvario, lo crucificaron allí junto con los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda. Era ya cerca de la hora sexta, cuando se oscureció el sol y toda la tierra quedó en tinieblas hasta la hora nona. El velo del Santuario se rasgó por medio y Jesús, dando un fuerte grito, dijo: «Padre, en tus manos pongo mi espíritu.» Y, dicho esto, expiró. Al ver el centurión lo sucedido, alababa a Dios diciendo: «Ciertamente este hombre era justo.» Y toda la muchedumbre que había acudido a aquel espectáculo, al ver lo que pasaba, se volvió dándose golpes de pecho. Todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le habían seguido desde Galilea se mantenían a distancia, mientras contemplaban todo aquello. Había un hombre llamado José, miembro del Consejo, hombre bueno y justo, que no había asentido al consejo y proceder de los demás. Era de Arimatea, población de Judea, y esperaba el Reino de Dios. Se presentó a Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús. Después de descolgarlo, lo envolvió en una sábana y lo puso en un sepulcro excavado en la roca, en el que nadie había sido enterrado todavía. Era el día de la Preparación y apuntaba el sábado. Las mujeres que habían venido con él desde Galilea fueron detrás, para ver dónde estaba el sepulcro y cómo colocaban su cuerpo. Luego regresaron y prepararon aromas y mirra. Y el sábado descansaron según el precepto. [BJ-SAOGM]

At that time, the chief priests, the scribes, and elders of the people brought Jesus before Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.” And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” And Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no crime in this man.” But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.” When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him. So he questioned him at some length; but he made no answer. The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, arraying him in gorgeous apparel, he sent him back to Pilate. And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other. Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was perverting the people; and after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him; neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Behold, nothing deserving death has been done by him; I will therefore chastise him and release him.” But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas” — a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city, and for murder. Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus; but they shouted out, “Crucify, crucify him!” A third time he said to them, “Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no crime deserving death; I will therefore chastise him and release him.” But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. So Pilate gave sentence that their demand should be granted. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will. And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who bewailed and lamented him. But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave suck!’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us’; and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole earth until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, and said, “Certainly this man was righteous!” And all the multitudes who assembled to see the sight, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts. And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance and saw these things. Now there was a man named Joseph from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, who had not consented to their purpose and deed, and he was looking for the kingdom of God. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud, and laid him in a rock hewn tomb, where no one had ever yet been laid. It was the day of Preparation, and the sabbath was beginning. The women who had come with him from Galilee followed, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid; then they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the sabbath they rested according to the commandment. [RSV]

Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἤγαγον τὸν Ἰησοῦν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν Πιλᾶτον. ἤρξαντο δὲ κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· τοῦτον εὕρομεν διαστρέφοντα τὸ ἔθνος καὶ κωλύοντα Καίσαρι φόρους διδόναι, λέγοντα ἑαυτὸν Χριστὸν βασιλέα εἶναι. ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν λέγων· σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων; ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτῷ ἔφη· σὺ λέγεις. ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος εἶπε πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ὄχλους ὅτι οὐδὲν εὑρίσκω αἴτιον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ. οἱ δὲ ἐπίσχυον λέγοντες ὅτι ἀνασείει τὸν λαὸν διδάσκων καθ᾿ ὅλης τῆς Ἰουδαίας, ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἕως ὧδε. Πιλᾶτος δὲ ἀκούσας Γαλιλαίαν ἐπηρώτησεν εἰ ὁ ἄνθρωπος Γαλιλαῖός ἐστι, καὶ ἐπιγνοὺς ὅτι ἐκ τῆς ἐξουσίας Ἡρῴδου ἐστίν, ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἡρῴδην, ὄντα καὶ αὐτὸν ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις ἐν ταύταις ταῖς ἡμέραις. ὁ δὲ Ἡρῴδης ἰδὼν τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐχάρη λίαν· ἦν γὰρ ἐξ ἱκανοῦ θέλων ἰδεῖν αὐτὸν διὰ τὸ ἀκούειν αὐτὸν πολλὰ περὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἤλπιζέ τι σημεῖον ἰδεῖν ὑπ᾿ αὐτοῦ γινόμενον. ἐπηρώτα δὲ αὐτὸν ἐν λόγοις ἱκανοῖς· αὐτὸς δὲ οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο αὐτῷ. εἱστήκεισαν δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς εὐτόνως κατηγοροῦντες αὐτοῦ. ἐξουθενήσας δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἡρῴδης σὺν τοῖς στρατεύμασιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμπαίξας, περιβαλὼν αὐτὸν ἐσθῆτα λαμπρὰν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν τῷ Πιλάτῳ. ἐγένοντο δὲ φίλοι ὅ τε Ἡρῴδης καὶ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ μετ᾿ ἀλλήλων· προϋπῆρχον γὰρ ἐν ἔχθρᾳ ὄντες πρὸς ἑαυτούς. Πιλᾶτος δὲ συγκαλεσάμενος τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ τὸν λαὸν εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· προσηνέγκατέ μοι τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὡς ἀποστρέφοντα τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ἀνακρίνας οὐδὲν εὗρον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ αἴτιον ὧν κατηγορεῖτε κατ᾿ αὐτοῦ. ἀλλ᾿ οὐδὲ Ἡρῴδης· ἀνέπεμψα γὰρ ὑμᾶς πρὸς αὐτόν· καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐδὲν ἄξιον θανάτου ἐστὶ πεπραγμένον αὐτῷ. παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ἀπολύσω. ἀνάγκην δὲ εἶχεν ἀπολύειν αὐτοῖς κατὰ ἑορτὴν ἕνα. ἀνέκραξαν δὲ παμπληθεὶ λέγοντες· αἶρε τοῦτον, ἀπόλυσον δὲ ἡμῖν Βαραββᾶν· ὅστις ἦν διὰ στάσιν τινὰ γενομένην ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ φόνον βεβλημένος εἰς τὴν φυλακήν. πάλιν οὖν ὁ Πιλᾶτος προσεφώνησε, θέλων ἀπολῦσαι τὸν Ἰησοῦν. οἱ δὲ ἐπεφώνουν λέγοντες· σταύρωσον σταύρωσον αὐτόν. ὁ δὲ τρίτον εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν οὗτος; οὐδὲν ἄξιον θανάτου εὗρον ἐν αὐτῷ· παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ἀπολύσω. οἱ δὲ ἐπέκειντο φωναῖς μεγάλαις αἰτούμενοι αὐτὸν σταυρωθῆναι, καὶ κατίσχυον αἱ φωναὶ αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν ἀρχιερέων. ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐπέκρινε γενέσθαι τὸ αἴτημα αὐτῶν, ἀπέλυσε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν τὸν διὰ στάσιν καὶ φόνον βεβλημένον εἰς τὴν φυλακήν, ὃν ᾐτοῦντο, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν παρέδωκε τῷ θελήματι αὐτῶν. Καὶ ὡς ἀπήγαγον αὐτόν, ἐπιλαβόμενοι Σίμωνός τινος Κυρηναίου, ἐρχομένου ἀπ᾿ ἀγροῦ, ἐπέθηκαν αὐτῷ τὸν σταυρὸν φέρειν ὀπίσω τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. ἠκολούθει δὲ αὐτῷ πολὺ πλῆθος τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ γυναικῶν, αἳ καὶ ἐκόπτοντο καὶ ἐθρήνουν αὐτόν. στραφεὶς δὲ πρὸς αὐτὰς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπε· θυγατέρες Ἱερουσαλήμ, μὴ κλαίετε ἐπ᾿ ἐμέ, πλὴν ἐφ᾿ ἑαυτὰς κλαίετε καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν. ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἔρχονται ἡμέραι ἐν αἷς ἐροῦσι· μακάριαι αἱ στεῖραι καὶ κοιλίαι αἳ οὐκ ἐγέννησαν, καὶ μαστοὶ οἳ οὐκ ἐθήλασαν. τότε ἄρξονται λέγειν τοῖς ὄρεσι, πέσετε ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς, καὶ τοῖς βουνοῖς, καλύψατε ἡμᾶς· ὅτι εἰ ἐν τῷ ὑγρῷ ξύλῳ ταῦτα ποιοῦσιν, ἐν τῷ ξηρῷ τί γένηται; Καὶ ὅτε ἀπῆλθον ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τὸν καλούμενον Κρανίον, ἐκεῖ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν. Ἦν δὲ ὡσεὶ ὥρα ἕκτη καὶ σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ᾿ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης, τοῦ ἡλίου ἐκλείποντος, καὶ ἐσχίσθη τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ μέσον· καὶ φωνήσας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπε· πάτερ, εἰς χεῖράς σου παρατίθεμαι τὸ πνεῦμά μου· καὶ ταῦτα εἰπὼν ἐξέπνευσεν. ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ ἑκατόνταρχος τὸ γενόμενον ἐδόξασε τὸν Θεὸν λέγων· ὄντως ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος δίκαιος ἦν. καὶ πάντες οἱ συμπαραγενόμενοι ὄχλοι ἐπὶ τὴν θεωρίαν ταύτην, θεωροῦντες τὰ γενόμενα, τύπτοντες ἑαυτῶν τὰ στήθη ὑπέστρεφον. εἱστήκεισαν δὲ πάντες οἱ γνωστοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν, καὶ γυναῖκες αἱ συνακολουθήσασαι αὐτῷ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας, ὁρῶσαι ταῦτα. Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ὀνόματι Ἰωσήφ, βουλευτὴς ὑπάρχων καὶ ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς καὶ δίκαιος — οὗτος οὐκ ἦν συγκατατεθειμένος τῇ βουλῇ καὶ τῇ πράξει αὐτῶν — ἀπὸ Ἀριμαθαίας πόλεως τῶν Ἰουδαίων, ὃς προσεδέχετο καὶ αὐτὸς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, οὗτος προσελθὼν τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, καὶ καθελὼν αὐτὸ ἐνετύλιξε σινδόνι καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὸ ἐν μνήματι λαξευτῷ, οὗ οὐκ ἦν οὐδεὶς οὐδέπω κείμενος· καὶ ἡμέρα ἦν παρασκευή, σάββατον ἐπέφωσκε. Κατακολουθήσασαι δὲ αἱ γυναῖκες, αἵτινες ἦσαν συνεληλυθυῖαι αὐτῷ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας, ἐθεάσαντο τὸ μνημεῖον καὶ ὡς ἐτέθη τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ, ὑποστρέψασαι δὲ ἡτοίμασαν ἀρώματα καὶ μύρα. καὶ τὸ μὲν σάββατον ἡσύχασαν κατὰ τὴν ἐντολήν.
